They are clearing handling a lot of traffic at the moment. Folks need to be patient.

ETA: Okay given the problems that some folks are having I take this ^^ back. Sounds slightly chaotic really!

Just posted this in the other thread but thought folks here might find it useful too.

I can confirm that there may be a need to call Apple, but don't base it on whether you've had a confirmation email yet. Go to your local Apple website (wherever you ordered from) and log in to your Account and check your orders. If you can't see your order at all in the list, call Apple.

If you can see your order, click on More Details and see if there's a clickable blue 'Edit' link next to your shipping address, email address and shipping email. If there is, you're golden. Just wait for your confirmation email - their systems are slow right now but it will get sent to you. If you can't click the links, your order is stuck and you should call Apple and ask them about the order.

I just called Apple and this is what I was told, as verbatim as I can remember.

"Basically we have two systems - one that generates the quote and the order number, and another that receives the order to our shipping department. What's happened with one of your two orders is that it's got stuck in the transfer process and is pretty much in limbo. I'm sending documents through to the shipping department for you now that will unfreeze the order and get it going, and you'll likely receive an email confirming your order in the next 24 hours."

He also confirmed that my place in the queue would not be affected by this glitch, as orders will be dealt with by Order Number, which was successfully generated when I placed the order in the first place.

I also asked him about the likelihood of my order being affected by late items like the case:

"I don't anticipate that being a problem. Normally we like to ship out single shipments but in this case as the iPad is due to be delivered by the 28th if there is something else holding it up we'll likely change the way we ship so the iPad gets there on time. But again that's something you can go into your account and sort out nearer the time if there's anything holding up the order."

Hope this helps!

The second order, that I placed at 8am, just got a confirmation email. It says iPad is due for delivery on 28th and the SIM card is due for shipping by the 28th, so it's all looking good.

Ordered a 32GB with a case, got a confirmation e-mail about an hour later. It says my order "delivers by May 28th", and at the details section the case only says "by May 28th", I don't think there's anything to be worried about though, most likely an inconsistency by error. Also, I did notice shortly after I ordered that the store was inaccessible temporarily, probably due to the number of people placing orders at the same time - maybe this explains some people not receiving their confirmation e-mails. Again I wouldn't worry too much though especially if it shows up in your account.

Im disgusted with the price of the ipads in particular the 16gb wifi ! :(

Haven't we been through this about a million times now?

1. The US list price does not include sales tax, which varies state to state.
2. In the UK, we have to pay VAT at 17.5%.

So taking tax into consideration, we're getting nearly a direct conversion on the US price. As Steve Jobs himself said, educate yourself

no we're not... we are paying about £70 more (taking 8% US sales tax on a 16gb wifi iPad into account)...

can anyone confirm that the 10W USB 6ft cable (£25 accessory) actually comes with the UK 3 pin power brick?

i know the pics on the apple uk site show the brick, but its only the back of it i think...

I just had an identical conversation to owen-b with Apple, they also told me that my 1:11am order was stuck in the system because I ordered 'before all parts of the system got up and running'.

When I told him that I placed a second order at 9:36am, he said that I would be best advised to go with the later order as I have received the confirmation email for that already. He said that he could put through one of either two requests to the maintenance department -(1)attempt to push the original order through, or (2) cancel it; either way, it would take 24 hours for a result. He also said that there is no guarantee that the 1:11am order would be successful, due to the glitch.

I therefore decided to cancel the 1:11am order, and stick with the second in the hope that I still ordered early enough to receive the iPad on the 28th.

I hope this info helps some other people -the bottom line is this -if you are worried about your order, give Apple a call. Their customer service is pretty good, even though i'm kinda mad with them right now for screwing up my order lol. If I hadn't seized the initiative I might have missed out on preordering.

(Ironically, Apple then just called me to see if I am still interesting in preordering an iPad :| I had made a telephone enquiry in February. I have also received THREE 'preorder now' emails this morning!)

Lordy. Look:

US 16Gb price = $499
$499 = £334.53 at current exchange rates
US price + VAT = 334.53 x 1.175 = £393.07
UK 16Gb price = £429
Difference = £36.07, easily explainable by import taxes etc.

We are not getting ripped off on this (for a change!).

If you take off the sales tax in the UK from a 32GB 3G for example (ie, knock off 17.5%) and convert that amount to dollars, you'll arrive at $731.61, which is pretty much the US price before sales tax.

Apple advertise their US prices pre-tax and their UK prices post-tax. It's just that we have a lot more tax.

Got a week off this week and wanted to maybe try get some dvd's converted ready for when my new toy arrives. Didn't really want to start a new thread so though maybe one of my fellow UK/EU ipadders could answer it for me.

I want some software to rip DVD's (Mainly my family guy collection). I've tried using handbrake and find its to much of a hassle and seems to take forever. I don't mind paying for some software to make things simple. Ideally I want something like iTunes but for DVD's, so I can just pop a DVD in my drive and have it done. No fannying around. Does such a magical thing exist? I was looking at Roxio Toast???

I will add into the UK-US discussion. I have ordered a iPad 32 GB 3G straight from the Apple Store US for delivery to a friends home, where I shall pick it up personally from in 2 weeks time. Total came to 801 US dollars including sales tax, which is about 540 pounds on the Visa circuit exchange rate (paid using my European credit card). So the actual savings is 60 pounds. Now, this is the optimal savings rate, as I have no shipping/duty charges involved since I happen to be travelling to the US for other business at that time. An ebay/bundlebox/ any other indirect purchase is simply not worth it the hassle over the UK prices.

i don't care anyway, as i've had my 32gb for ages now anyway :p

Same story for me. Called them at around 10am with a query and was informed no order was held for me, which i can vividly rememberer doing at the same time as you did. It appeared in my Apple Account order history also. However the call centre could not trace it by web order number or using my Apple ID. A new order was placed over the phone and a charge made from my cc immediately.

I have just checked my order history again and the one placed at 01:10 is showing "cancelled by Apple!"

As long as i get it on 28th or the Monday following i am not too bothered, but this system issue had better not impact on the original delivery date.:mad::mad:

Thanks for posting this. I am now also refreshing my order page, you should probably feel happy/relieved that the original order says "cancelled by Apple" -that is what I need to happen now too! I don't want to get charged twice, they have certainly preauthorised two orders from my bank account.

I think that any orders placed up to now will get delivered on May 28th without issues.... once people get their lunch breaks from work and start acting upon the preorder emails they have received, it might be a different story.

You got that right.

I know everyone always feels like "I always seem to have the bad luck", but I really feel like that right now. I've been glued like an idiot since January to these forums, tuaw, engadget, Apple website etc waiting for the moment I can preorder to arrive -and when I do, Apple f*** it up because their systems 'weren't ready'. Enough said I think.

At what time did people place orders when Apple's systems weren't ready? I set my alarm to wake me up at 4am, ordered the iPads, went back to sleep. Mine seems fine, and I got email confirmation 50 minutes after I ordered. Did you lot order before 4am? I didn't think it would be available before then.

Mine was 1:30am about 20 mins after it opened. And it's stuck in limbo and Apple don't seem bothered. They have my money anyway.
