Just an addon to number 2.

If your our of credit (over the month etc) then you can still access your account at Three website to allow you to topup.

Right now when you say voucher is this a special type of voucher or just the same as a 3 voucher you would buy over the counter at a supermarket or petrol station. Though this is what i was wondering how do you activate that voucher onto the mifi device as it hasnt got any buttons or that (is it via the website)

Also about the whole activating when topping up im still a bit confused if i were to top up on the 15th of the month would it last till the 31st or to the 14/15th of the next month. (Whilst the sim is in the mifi device)

So there are no benefits to ordering through the education site?

Did anyone use quidco.

I always buy via Quidco, and I've always received the cashback from Apple Store purchases.

They're currently offering 3% cashback on the order total excluding VAT.

I've ordered a 64Gb 3G with case and camera kit, and my £19.25 cashback has already tracked. Every little helps. :)

Yup same experience here. I've SIM unlocked mine and upgraded the firmware so I can use any SIM and can configure it using a web browser rather than being forced to use the windows only client.

Was it hard unlocking it or is there a step by step guide online. When you say you can use any sim in a bit baffled (im not too knowledgable on the whole mifi situation) . Though i thought that the 3 was the only carrier in the UK that provided a data plan for a mifi device , so are there others that do this PAYG data plan on a regular simcard.

64GB 3G, I'm still debating if I can afford the 16GB Wifi :)

When the iPhone first went on sale in the UK there was £50 off orders over £250 floating around. I ended up buying £230 for my first gen iPhone. Just wish there would have been some codes available now.

The last time Apple offered any coupons according to one voucher site was over a year ago now, £60 off £700 orders.

I think I need to hold one in my hands first.

Just the same old 3 voucher. Log on you dont even need any login information it recognises you from the sim your using. Takes you straight to your account to top up

If you top up on the 15th then it lasts a month from then. If it then times out and you dont use it for a few months no prob. Top it up when ready and its 30 days from then.

All carriers do a data plan. Some more advantageous than others. Just be careful as some only offer data with a clause that its only used in their phone.

No problem , i take it when you say log in that ive to just go onto the 3 website create a account and give the long number or the mobile number for the sim card so that the account is linked with that sim card. (Also is the sim card just the same a as a mobile sim card or is it specific as to in terms of data plan)

Do you know what providers would be good for 3 mifi device apart from 3 obviously.

On the 3 site it has PAYG MIFI for £49.99 i assume that is the device itself but it doesnt mention the tarriff or what the data plan is for the mifi device or what the minimum monthly topup is ? (anyone on the 3 mifi know)

I just tried using quidco for an 16gb ipad wifi for my eldest kid.

got this from quidco Apple page;

<br><br><b>No cashback is presently available on iPad, iPod nano, iPod classic and iPod shuffle purchases.</b><br><br>

If you're buying an iPad 3G purely for the GPS you might be interested to know that the triangulation-based location services are pretty accurate on the WiFi only model... Not accurate enough for turn-by-turn navigation or countryside rambling, but for the most location sensitive applications such as Google Maps it's plenty good enough!

Apple are slow to pay QuidCo cashback, generally.

I ordered a 2009 MBP 13" when it was announced back in June and only received the QuidCo payment a couple of months ago. About 9-10 months later!

You dont need to create an account. If you log in with your MIFI then it knows you from the sim. All they want is your money. They dont care what your called. If you log in from another computer...ie. Not with the WIFI then you identify what you want to top up by entering the mobile number allocated with the sim. But its easier to use your MIFI as it picks the number up itself.

The gadget costs £49.99 as you say. The top up is £10 for 1GB that times out after 30 days. Or I think £15 for 3GB. Still 30 days then poof. I never use the 1GB up. Tariff is explained here http://www.three.co.uk/Mobile_Broadband/MiFi_plus_iPod_bundle

The sims looks like any other. I don't know if its specific or not. Doesn't really matter. When you log in with a MIFI it only offers you to top data up.

Unlocking etc was very simple though has to be done with a windows system. I've given details in a previous post in this thread.

All carriers offer data only tariffs on pay as you go. Different prices and coverage. I also use it in different countries with a local SIM.

2 - Yes. Buy a voucher or use your credit/debit card online
.

Can you buy a bunch of eg £10 vouchers from the 3 store and keep them in your wallet for use when you like? i.e do they have expiry dates? Thinking that when I might want to use it, I probably won't be near a store (it'll be spur of the moment)

How does it let you access their website for topups? Does it do an auto-redirect like a hotel wifi hotspot for example? No issues with this on the ipad?

any tips on usage? Eg do you have your home wifi set up as top of the list of access points, then the mifi, and leave the mifi switched off until you want to use it? How long does the mifi battery last when its switched off? (I have a backup battery type thing for my mobile phone but the bloody thing drains too quickly so its useless half the time)

The topup vouchers do have a shelf life which I think is three months. If I had an old one to hand I could check. But it isn't usually a problem as everywhere sells them now. But just as easy to use a card.

You go to www.three.co.uk and click my account to topup. If your on the MIFI then you will find its the only domain you can reach if your out of credit. Like I mentioned earlier you don't need to log in as the sim your using is the identity. I have used them on Laptops, iPhones and iPads no problem.

Usage. I think someone said they were getting 5 or 6 hours usage out of it. To be honest I haven't noticed as I would only use it for an hour or so a day.
I have charged it in the car with a USB lead a few times. Just add it as an access point. You can give it a WEP code but that has to be done via a PC.
IF its off the iPad looks for the next best WIFI it can find or sits and sulks.
At home the iPad uses the house wife. If I turn the MIFI on it will not swap over to it unless I tell it to. No reason to.

WEP only??? Doesn't sound very secure - or does it have such a short Wi-Fi range that even the person sat at the next table in McD's won't be able to 'see' it?

It needs to have cooking, washing, and ironing done?:confused: ;) :D

It might have separate MAC addresses you can enter, to be honest I am not sure. I usually find a WEP code is adequate. I mean hell if it's in McD's they give you free WIFI anyway. Plus it has a short range on purpose (battery life, security etc.) So I might just notice someone a few yards away trying to hack my MIFI and just give him/her a swift kick. But if you can hack my WEP code, on the hoof so to speak then you deserve access.

my MiFi does WPA2, you just have to configure it using the windows client or upgrade the firmware and do it via the web browser

Yes it does do. I seem to remember there was a few WEP versions you could set. My son has put new firmware on his so he can configure it via a web page and use any other sim. I don't use mine anymore as I have recently acquired a Novatel 2352 which is sim free anyway.

I got one of these a few months ago. Works beautifully!

Expensive, but a nice bit of kit. :)

Yes I have been very impressed with it. One button operation and a fantastic web interface. Also a nice adhoc network. Not used that yet. I have tried it on Three, Voda and O2 and it just worked, no setting up.

Would it be possible to get the 3 Mifi sim, cut it down and use it in the ipad? Thus giving the decent priced data plan and saves having to charge the mifi or carry it around?

Has any one with a 3G tried cutting down a sim and using it?

I read on another forum that someone tried it and three eventually stopped the sim working in the iPad.
But he did say that three might be working on a iPad comparable sim.

Bare with me and I'll try and find link.
