I'm sort of enjoying this rather slow wait for the 28th. Savouring the moment. Watch me change my tune the week before when I'm chewing my own arms off!

You must be a really laid-back dude. I was like a bear with a sore head when they put the release date back from late April to late May - in fact it's still only the 12th and I've already chewed my fingers and half my hands off (I'm typing this with my nose on my iPhone - thank God for touch screen devices :D )

I wasn't in much of a frenzy since the iPad was announced as I was really going to buy it at the end of the year... then I changed my mind :p

I'm wondering when shipment notice e-mails will start to arrive... I recall my Mac mini taking two full weeks when I ordered it online, and I could follow its progress from China to Italy. Or will they just send a notice when it's already in the country, almost at my door?

Whats worrying me is my iPad has deliver by 28th and the rest of the order despatch by 28th. I have a feeling they won't despatch till everything is there. I don't want to split the order now in case it takes me to the back of the line again.

eBay story

I gather most people are now waiting for the UK launch?

The Ebay prices seem to have dropped right down - last few I've watched have ended at 430-450. I still think this would be worth it to have it now (fly out of country on 28th so can't buy till late june/july...)

Anyone had much luck with the ebay route?

Well I purchased 16GB WiFi iPad on eBay yesterday and it arrived today. £430 + £6 delivery. It was sold as used (ex demo) and the seller said it had a slight mark on the back (showed photos). When I got it the mark was actually a dent (he listed it, but only based on photos he was given by the powers above him). I told him I was a bit saddened by the dent - though I'm not so anal that it bothers me that much - and he is refunding me £50. So all told I am one extremely happy iPad-owning bunny. I now have to decide if I want to keep my preorder for a 32GB WiFi model due for delivery on 28th - but I think I know the answer to that is a big fat yes. This thing is lovely and the new one will be lovelier still and I can pass this one on to another family member.

As I have posted already, you don't need to worry -it is all a play on words -subject to stock, eveything will get delivered to you on release day. If you ordered early then it will be fine. The iPad portion of the order says 'deliver by' as an emphasis that they will reach the customers on release day. I think Apple started doing this for big-release items to encourage people to order for home delivery on release days, thus taking the pressure off retail stores. Its a way of saying 'no need to line up at a store -you can have it delivered on release day. ;)

Sorry if this has already been posted.
But delivery dates slipped to 7th June for orders placed after this morning.

I have been told that apple received 114% more orders than they expected. Not 14. 114.
It still amazes me how the could have underestimated uk demand after what happened in the USA.

I placed my order Monday. Cancelled Monday afternoon. Placed new order today direct with the apple guy I usually speak to to take advantage of his free case offer. I have been told to expect email confirmation to say June. But that so many orders being cancelled / changed that I will probably get ipad on 28th.

Yes I was hoping that. But I saw a few postings from people who split the order up following suggestions from the Apple sales people. So it had me wondering.

How do you get a free case?

Bob

I got a free case because I complained when the ipad release was delayed.
I already had a dialogue going with the apple rep over the ipad stretching back to beginning march.

I thought my rant at apple would achieve nothing except making me feel better. But I got an email Monday from the apple rep.

Faith in apple restored :)

People are complaining that orders are pushed to 7th June delivery? Really? You only had like 3 1/2 months to decide if you wanted one, then the day comes and you casually wait a few days? People here have been chomping at the bit to order this, those people made the order, no problems. You can't be mad at Apple that it is selling so well, be mad at yourself for being so bloody indecisive.

Right just spoke to Apple's Product Delivery Group. Seems like they are using the term "freaking out" alot for us panicing buyers!

She mentioned that all those that are getting the status of "Shipping by 28th" will hopefully get the orders on the 2nd June. She also kept saying 23rd alot by mistake - maybe she know's something we dont! :p

Although sounds like they arent too sure either - kept saying 'rumoured'.

If true this is a really bad launch for Apple.

You know what... If Apple have indeed botched the May 28th launch, I will be upset with them. I took a day off work on Monday to preorder -as they didn't give a start time for preorders, they didn't leave me much choice. As it turned out, I didn't need the day off, so that was a waste.
NOW, I booked May 28th off for delivery -and that could potentially be a waste too.
When it gets to this stage, they are messing with my life. No, it's not the end of the world and there are bigger problems out there, but it's all relative. Apple, stop wasting my time. I'm getting sick of your lack of information and misinformation. Stop treating your customers like ****.

I spoke to them this afternoon explaining my iPad is 28th delivery and rest of order 28th despatch. She said don't worry I will get the iPad on 28th. Probably the rest of the order as well. But on big items like this they won't hold it up for accessories.
