I ordered really early, just two iPads and a sim card, no case or other accessory, yet my order says ships by the 28th. Strange.

Have you looked at your confirmation email? Each item is broken down, with it's individual shipping/delivery date. Check that, the iPad should say delivers by 28th, the others, if any will say ships by 28th.
Hope that helps some.

Nice one! I knew I'd seen it somewhere! The Order Status however, says ships by. I probably shouldn't worry.

Apple Confirmation EMAIL said:
MB293B/A IPAD WI-FI 32GB-GBR 1 424.68 Delivers by May 28th
H1426B/A IPAD SIM VODAFONE UK-GBR 1 0.17 By May 28th
MC496B/A IPAD WI-FI + 3G 32GB GBR 1 509.79 Delivers by May 28th

Now this is a little worrying. I paid for my iPad and accessories by debit card on 10th at 1:30am. The amount was taken out of my bank immediately which I commented on here at the time. I believe in the case of a credit card payment then they do a pre-authorisation only. The amount was still there showing on my online bank yesterday. Today there is no sign of it. It's gone.
Rang the bank and they said what will have happened is that Apple will have started the transaction but not completed it. The order status says ok still but a quick call to Apple didn't help they just weren't sure. Has anyone else paid by debit card and found this has happened. I don't want Apple to stop the order due to some silly clerical cockup and I end up at square 1 again.

Same as me don't worry cash point says the money is in my account but that i have not got it available it locks it off so that apple can take it when they sent the ipad

That's it, mine doesn't. It's become available again!

This thread is too long as people are missing lots of information that has already been posted.

When ordered, Apple places a hold on the funds to check that they are available and that the card details are valid. The money hasn't gone, it's just unavailable.

The hold will lift after a few days automatically.

The hold will reappear a few days before your order is due to ship.

It's all entirely normal. Don't worry!

So, it looks like I'll be getting two iPads on the day! Ordered one on the morning of the 10th with a case and camera kit and got the dreaded Limbo problem so I ordered another one, just the iPad, just in case. It's a 32GB 3G with O2 sim.

And now both orders are confirmed I was going to cancel the second one outright. But then I thought I might as well take it just in case there's a problem with the original order, and then once I have both in my possession, either sell it on at cost price and get muchos good Karma points, or, seeing as the iPads are clearly going to be an unobtainable item for a few weeks after launch, sell it for a small profit, perhaps £50.

What would you do, and why?

Hmm... hope my stuff gets shipped individually. Just rechecked the confirmation email.

Estimated Ship:

iPad number 1 - "Delivers by May 28th"
iPad number 2 - "Delivers by May 28th"
Dock - "By May 28th"

So it seems the dock is delayed, and I ordered at 4am on Monday.

Checked my account on the website again and it says Delivers by May 28th for the whole order. But the Shipping Options area on the left says "Items will be shipped when all items are available". Also, the edit button there isn't blue, it's shaded out.

Good news or bad news?

I thought it odd, this is from Apples UK website. As long as the bank don't trigger it as a fraudulent transaction when it's re-applied for.

Debit Card

Our bank will automatically debit your account for the value of your order when the order has been placed and accepted by Apple.

Credit Card

When will my credit card be charged?
When you place your order, Apple request authorisation to charge the order amount from your credit card company. Once we have received approval, Apple reserve the amount on your card until all items are available and your order has shipped. Your card will be charged when your order has shipped.

It seems to me that none of these iPad accessories will be available for sale until the 28th of May in the UK. So, the system is told that none of them are available for despatch until then too.

However, the iPad itself is getting special treatment. Apple knows people want it ON THE DAY so they made sure that all iPads say "Delivered by May 28th".

I suspect that most (all?) of the accessories ordered on the first and second day of pre-ordering will also arrive with the iPads. If indeed the accessories are delayed I seriously, seriously doubt that Apple will hold back your iPad itself. Think about how many people will have ordered accessories. Are they going to screw over all those customers?

You can return it within 14 days I believe, so I'd wait till the 28th and if I end up receiving both just return the one you don't want.

Just over 2 weeks to go now. This weeks gone really quick it hardly seems like 2 minutes ago I pre ordered, will be no time before its in our hands.

The wait doesn't seem to bad to me now. I was tearing my hair out when I found we'd getting later than the US but since then I've sorta forgot it and just got on with it.

Anyway, order my first accessory today one of these bad boys

http://www.knomobags.com/uk/men/ipod-cases/ipad-covers/ipad-slim-sleeve-black.html/

I've had other stuff from them and always been happy with it. Quite expensive I guess but I'm sure it'll be a good quality product.

How long did it take for stores to sell out of stock in America? I will only be able to reach an Apple Store by around 5PM, and I'm worried that they'll be sold out by the time I get there. (If you're wondering why I'm not ordering online, the clarification of it arriving on release day was way too small for my liking).

Without much insider knowledge, by gathering information from Apple reps on the phone/the speed pre-orders sold out, I'd say there is no way any will be left by 5PM.
Consider how many people are now going to queue on launch day because online orders have been pushed back to the 7th...
Just seems very likely they'll sell out.

I have a split problem. I can't wait for the iPad and wish it would hurry up, on the other hand, the 27th is my first degree exam, so the slower it goes the better.
I hate catch-22.

I agree it isn't that long to wait.

The 28th is almost next Friday... I say almost because it is not next Friday until we get to Monday and its Thursday.

And so to the guy that said the week passed very quickly - I envy the possitivity but you ordered it 3 days ago! It has not been a week yet!

But seriously it isn't that much of a wait until the 28th so we will all have our new iPads soon.

And I still have my iPad to play with from America until then :)

Sorry to kind of derial topic but I wanted to ask aquestion about the actual delivery. You see I work 6am to 5pm, so does Apple give me a timeframe prior to delivery?

I dont want to be in the situation of arranging pick up times because it will mean having to leave early from work. I know these parcel places hate working beyond 5pm haha.
