I think if it hadn't been for all the delays, uncertainty and knock backs, coupled with concern about where you are if you miss the window of opportunity there wouldn't be so much paranoia about these sort of things.

Paranoia? Who said anything about paranoia? I'm not paranoid? I didn't say I was paranoid. Did someone else say I was paranoid? Maybe someone said I was paranoid. Did they tell people I was paranoid? Who knows? I don't know.

Gotta pass the time between now and then somehow.

That made me chuckle more than it should have.

I understand saving money, and that a lot of free apps can be as good as paid alternatives... but don't limit yourself. Some CHEAP apps are incredible. GoodReader isn't free, but it's almost essential.

Hmm, talking of apps, it's just occurred to me that I have Zippo Lighter and iPint on my iPhone for a bit of fun. Now they are going to be...erm...interesting on an iPad :D

What's going on with apples debit card authorization system?

I ordered the money went from available funds , now it's back.

Been a fair old discussion about this today. Go back the last page or two in this thread and it might shed a bit of light.

Oops thanks

Yes I read the posts. It is certainly strange. Never seen this before.

I was just wondering what would happen if I accidentally spent some of the money. I expect apple would just cancel the order with no warning.

Of course I don't know which day they will attempt to take the money. Time to be super careful I had saved the money but don't get paid again till the 28th

:)

Same with me. I don't want any last minute hitches.

I am with Natwest. Not sure when they charge the cards but my guess is start of the week we get the iPads.

I reckon that if you spent the money in the meantime, you would get one of three reactions when Apple tried to take it for real when they needed to.
1) If you had an overdraft that would cover it, they'd take the money and you'd get overdrawn. You still get your ipad.
2) If you didn't have an overdraft, your bank would maybe let you go overdrawn and bend you over a barrel with charges as it was not previously authorised. You still get your ipad.
or
3) You don't have an overdraft and the bank won't allow an unauthorised one, and as Apple cant take your money when they need to, your order is cancelled. You don't get your ipad.

I have no basis for these opinions, other than experiences with an ex husband who was perpetually overdrawn beyond the point of authorised well into the realms of potential bankruptcy. ;)

Just been to do a check on my order to see if anything has changed and that part of the site is down with a back soon message. It says starting Sunday 16th you can visit your online order status and make changes to your order, track shipment and more. I know there was some things you can edit. But possibly they will put an option to collect at store. Can always hope.

My debit card was frozen by the bank for 'unusual activity' after i pre-ordered.

Apparently the £500 for the ipad was not the problem but the orders i made from amazon afterwards.

i've just got a cheap silicone cover through the post and am waiting for a Be.ez case I ordered. Just need the ipad now! Think the next 2 weeks will pass slowly.

I had some trouble ordering with my credit card. It took about 3 tries before it would accept the card. We got a phone call a few days later, saying there was some unusual activity, and we had to confirm that we made the transaction.

Any one heard of any release times in the UK for the iPad if I went to a local store for look and buy?

Sorry to post in here, but all the US forum members are asleep so I wanted to call on the help of us EU members :) Does anybody know if there would be problems associated with buying a US 3G iPad and bringing it back to the UK, waiting for o2 etc. to offer microSIMs, and then shoving one in?

Thanks

I can't see any issues there.

I have heard some talk that the 3G phone has been difficult to buy in US compared with the WIFI. They have been turned away. There is a thread on it here. https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/916752/ Otherwise the only other problems are the possibility of paying VAT when you bring it in the country. All the service providers here seem to be clamouring to rip you....errr..accept your money for their microsim.
