Sorry to post in here, but all the US forum members are asleep so I wanted to call on the help of us EU members :) Does anybody know if there would be problems associated with buying a US 3G iPad and bringing it back to the UK, waiting for o2 etc. to offer microSIMs, and then shoving one in?

Thanks

The Ipad is unlocked mate hence you can use it anywhere or switch data providers as its based on a 30 day use (payg)..:)

Its also covered by the international warranty.

Brilliant mate, thanks. Now all that's left is to hope I can find one in NYC when I'm over there. I can't seem to reserve online (I guess you need to be using an American IP address, and Hotspot Shield never seems to work on my MBP so forget about that :D), so hopefully (as I'm there Monday - Friday) if I reserve on Monday it should be there by Friday.

I'm glad that PC World and the like will be stocking iPad. That means that if they're sold out in the Brighton Apple store, I can just head down to PC World and pick one up there. :D

Just been to do a check on my order to see if anything has changed and that part of the site is down with a back soon message. It says starting Sunday 16th you can visit your online order status and make changes to your order, track shipment and more. I know there was some things you can edit. But possibly they will put an option to collect at store. Can always hope.

Site is back up (was down for almost 24 hours) but nothing seems to have changed on the Order Status page - no option for in-store pick-up :(

Dont forget you have Solutions and Cancom who will have them in stock as well.

Thanks Boblister, but I guess he's right :) My only defence is that I would be searching for something like "iPad 3G US UK" which doesn't exactly narrow down the topics here.

From what I gather, there are no issues associated with doing this.

Hi G.O.B.,

I posted a few weeks back about using a US purchased iPad in Europe. Finland to be exact. I even posted pictures about how to cut the sim card down. There are quite a few threads regarding this but just to make sure, there are no problems using the iPad in the world. Stop thinking of it as an iPhone. The iPad is unlocked and globally usable.

I'm with HSBC and paid with a debit card. I've had nothing in the way of Apple trying to take any money or set any aside.

Is this normal?

I'm with you. Hopefully it's normal because when I check my balance, no transaction for my pre-booked iPad has been made.

Probably just doesn't show up in the online banking interface you see. If you phone the bank you might get a different answer. However I doubt it's anything to worry about.

Anyone know any reputable ebay sellers with an ipad available (preferably for pickup) either in london or nottingham areas?

I can pay by paypal, and will go up to £440

Thanks

To be honest I don't think your going to get one less than the new price thats been quoted by Apple now. For the sake of avoiding possible risk and hassle it might be worth waiting a few weeks and picking one up from Apple here. The first wave of the 28th is sold out for pre-order but there is still a chance to pickup in store. The next batch is due a week later.

If you've waited this long, as I have, I really see zero point in getting a non-UK one now unless you can make a significant saving.

Wow at last - at last we can finally say we'll be getting our iPads next week! Thank god! :D

Yes! Getting excited now :). I'm pleased 3G's weren't that readily available on import until recently as I might have paid a stupid price for one.

Why would anyone sell for £440 when retail price is £430?

I don't approve of mass-selling which everyone from the US did but for £10 more?

I'm in the same boat.
but dont worry, i rang HSBC and Apple and the explanation is as follows.

I'm assuming your Debit Card with HSBC is a Visa like mine, if so the the guy I spoke to at Apple says that Visa Debit Cards require authorization similar to that of a Credit Card, essentially adding an extra layer of security to the purchase, but because of this when buying on the Apple Store they are considered Credit Cards rather than Debit Cards and as such wont be formally charged until your iPad is shipped.

I spoke to HSBC and they confirmed payment has been approved and the funds will be withdrawn as soon as Apple decide to do so, hope this helps.

Did miss something about the ipad being stocked in pc world etc on launch day?

Are john lewis getting it?

Apparently not until June. Not sure about PC World, although I've read on here that it will be available at launch, but I think that would be dependant upon the branch...
