I have no idea how you lot managed to hold out from buying before release here! I have had mine for almost a month and was looking at this thread almost as soon as it started. Had I still been waiting it would have done me in.

You are on the final run in now and I hope that you enjoy your ipads.

It has been a LONG LONG wait!

I don't know about any of the other waiters, but I waited purely for the satisfaction of knowing I have. So basically, I want to earn my iPad. Plus it's quite fun having the sense of community with all the others who are waiting; you know you're not alone and that not everyone else on this forum has an iPad.

4:35 AM, I got up really early to do it! :)

I did mine at 4am exactly. That's the time that the Aussie store went live, so I set my alarm thinking the UK store would be similar. If I knew I could order just after midnight, I would have stayed up rather than getting some shut eye.

It was just after 1am it opened actually. But for some reason the times on all orders show an hour earlier. Probably GMT whereas we are on BST.

My order was placed at 12:04 AM (GMT) which is 01:04 AM (BST) and the order status still says Delivered by May 28th so hopefully the ash cloud won't impact this date!

I'm starting to get excited for next week's arrival now.... my first few accessories have started to arrive -a Belkin soft case and a clear hard shell for the back, and a cheapie eBay screen protector -and, not forgetting my 99p plate stand whcih doubles up as an iPad stand!
It is interesting to have some accessories finally in my hand as it gives a good idea of the actual size of the iPad.

I wish I knew what day Apple was going to take the money from the bank so I could give the bank a heads up. I would hate them to turn it away in case it's a fraudulent transaction at the last minute.

Was that not the purpose of when Apple temporarily withdrew funds or placed a hold? I assumed it was to check it could be done, in terms of having money and it being allowed by our banks. But I think it will be fine, one purchase, albeit an expensive one, won't ring any alarms (hopefully...)

Oh how I wish. Without going into it too far again there is no hold on the money, I used a debit card. But twice this month my bank has stopped transactions and phoned me in case it's a fraud attempt by someone. Unusual patterns they call it. Luckily it gets represented and every things fine. But it just takes one hiccup on this order and I am looking at middle June sometime.

Wow, you've got a tense week coming up then! I'm sure it'll be fine :) I bought mine with a debit card too, although mine's Visa Debit, and I swear I read on here that they are treated like Credit Cards so they will place a hold. But yes, the money I have saved for the iPad has gone into my account today. I'm starting to get excited, but then I remind myself it is only Tuesday of the week before :(

On another point entirely, has there been any news over iBooks internationally lately? I know it was confirmed to be available at launch in many countries, but Apple have yet to give any details, such as Publishers, pricing etc. I can see it being delayed at launch tbh, unless they launch with one or two publishers and Project Gutenberg books.

Last I heard they were having issues signing up the europe publishers. It will launch, I don't see how they can't but I suspect it might be a little limited on books.. In fact the US store doesn't have that many books in it.

I use Cailbre (http://calibre-ebook.com/about) to convert any TEXT to epub format for the ipad. I found all the Hitch Hikers Guide to the galaxy books as text and converted to ePub and love reading it on the pad.. If Apple were selling in the store then I would have bought it, but as they are not I don't have a choice! :(

Taking books, there is always the Kindle app. Actually I had expected lower prices for eBooks from Amazon, most come at 10 euro! Sometimes the paper version is cheaper, I buy often from Amazon UK and prices are so good.

News this morning said it will be coming back for weeks or months. They have relaxed the rules when aircraft can fly though.

I get the impression the iPads due to be delivered on the 28th May be sitting somewhere in the UK waiting to be sent out. Or if not, Apple will have put them on a ship to arrive well in time to be distributed to UK'ers. Big companies get a handle on things like this (ash cloud) pretty damn quickly. They have to, not to costs money.

Boblister. The voice of reason :)

hopefully apple will have finished work on the iplug, to cap the volcano off!!!

After i poste. They did say about allowing planes through double the amount of ash so fingers crossed......

This. I suspect the UK launch iPad's will already be in storage in the UK.

If the ash cloud was a genuine threat to delivery then Apple would give official word saying so.

I don't want to dig this conversation up again as we've all been over it, i'm posting it purely for info -but just today, the preauthorised amount for my iPad preorder has been released back into my bank account. Strange timing

It all seems very hit and miss. Mine was taken out an hour after order, and put back in two/three days later.

WOULD THEY HAVE SHIPPED (FLOWN) INTO IRELAND FIRST?

I would have thought that some of them would have already shipped/arrived in Ireland ready for shipment to customers. There is no point holding onto tones of stock when you know where it's got to go.
