Really? That's terrible :(

Unionist paranoia, you're not in any danger getting a train to Belfast... Ryan it's a good job the English have absolutely no say in the future of their country because if it was up to them you'd be living with that southern "scum" in no time. The only time you ever see people flying the union jack is in Northern Ireland, here in England it's the St George's Cross and it doesn't matter if your name is O'Connell or Campbell, you're all paddies to them. Sorry but I've lived here all my life, you'll have as hard a time convincing the English that NI is a legitimate part of the UK than you will Gerry Adams.

I have to confess - I am going to the States next week. If I heard price and date I'd have made a decision about buying here or there. I am visiting a relative and they would be happy for me to collect from them - but I'd rather not lug it about more than I need to.

I think that I have decided that rather than preorder, I'll trust fate. If I get to an Apple Store and they have them, I'll get one. If they don't......and I hear that Best Buy have now sold out...I'll cry. Back early May!

The new shipments in the US are due on the 11th and I doubt they'll be selling out any time soon, you should be fine without a pre-order.

LOL. Limerick has enough problems don't you think ? Mind you the Americans would have no trouble buying guns :D

That's the risk of eBay, but at least you have Paypal & Credit card protection.

You will not get credit card protect buying through Paypal. If you have problems your only recourse would be through ebay and Paypal. Have you ever tried getting a refund through this route? Believe me it's not easy and they have some many get out clauses!!

rofl...its only called the UK because of Northern Ireland

Anyway...super OT....I've given up worrying about presales and any other announcement....moneys in the dresser, alarms ready to be set for a jaunt to the Apple Store and we'll see how it goes...eBay can rot this time round :)

Good thing I'm not from Northern Ireland then.

I am sorry what? Most people that are not Chavs or idiots know that N.I. is part of the UK, it is the reason the UK is UK and not Britain lol. You haven't spoken a word of truth in that from what I can tell.

Without wanting to offend anybody here, I'd appreciate if you could take the NI/UK political discussions somewhere else, its not needed here. ;)

All we need to know is that in the context of where Apple will be releasing iPad 'by the end of April', it will be Northern Ireland only in the context of Ireland the island. It doesn't matter what Gerry Adams or Peter Robinson thinks, because Steve Jobs only cares that Northern Ireland is in the UK for the purposes of making more millions from his iPad -so I would think that the only place in all of Ireland that it will be available on this launch day is the Apple Store in Belfast, or via the online store to an address in Northern Ireland.

Balloons was the poster who had a friend who worked in a uk apple store , ...Balloons any further info mate ?

Lets stop all the NI Britain UK talk

end of the day there is only one country we all come from ...the country of apple ! :apple: :D :apple:

Yeah this has got way too off-topic. I believe Balloons was the 'there'll be an announcement at 1pm (last Monday)' guy wasn't he? So I think we should take anything else he says with a large dose of salt.

To be honest I am quite relieved that Jobs was on the record today as stating that the April date shall be respected for int'l shipments. Threads such as this
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/892243/

put me straight off the Bundlebox-Ebay routes. People are having little or no issues exchanging their slightly defective iPads in stores, which would clearly not be the case for any purchases delivered to the UK at present.

The waiting is horrible. I am getting one for sure, the price is gonna dictate which i get but its just annoying that its such a gap between release dates. I havent been able to read a tech/gadget blog since saturday without getting frustrated.

I am in EXACTLY the same boat, although all this messing around is making me have second thoughts right now (maybe I just need a good night's sleep, been on the road for 2 days).
The pricing will also dictate for me which model I buy.. and I have had enough refreshing engadget, TUAW and these forums on my browser for what seems like forever.

Agreed...though Jobs was just vague enough to make me wonder if he won't push the release to as far back as humanly possible :p

True, but April is April, and given that we are no more than 22 days away from its end, we shall have news regarding the iPad within the next week - 10 days...

or, just live with the niggles until the UK launch and get it exchanged then? Not a big deal surely?

I would guess that people get swift exchanges in the US at present because 1) they bought legit from Apple or Best Buy 2) They are well within the week/10 days exchange period. Suppose the iPad comes out in the UK at the tail end of April and you get one now from BBox or Ebay, you neither have a paper trail linking you direct to Apple, nor will you be within a return period...

Mine arrived today, currently posting from it :D

No vat or import charges, win! Good so far, getting used to the keyboard etc. Had to get a US iTunes account to get the juicy content though :)

I think Jobs was vague for a reason, to be honest I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't know much about the international situation at all. That's the kind of thing that gets delegated quite far down from 1 Infinite Loop.

How did you pull no VAT? VAT is applicable on everything over £18 (or under IDK) but it should apply to the iPad.

macbreak weekly video 189(get it on itunes)
