Have you guys seen the sellers that claim to have the ipad in the UK ? (Or at least will deliver to the UK). Like simplyelectronics.net and gsmnation ? There were a few more popped up in Google but I can't find them now.
What do you say to that ? Some of those prices are, shall we say, on the interesting side.
(Sorry if this has already been mentioned - was rehearsing last night and well out of the loop).

Simplyelectronics are notrious for advertising things they dont have in stock, and then being quite difficult to get your money back from. Google them, terrible reputation.

A guy sat beside me on the train today, wasn't my usual route and he had an iPad in a black case... Was so very obviously lording it and everyone in the carriage was doing their best to ignore him. As i'm definitely in the 2.0 camp i just read about the 4.0 updates on my 3G, if he'd had a 4th Gen iPhone, i would have mugged him there an then. :D

'A magical and revolutionary product at an unbelievable price. Coming late April' - this is probably burned into my mind for life now.

At this stage currency fluctuations are going to be negligible. I hope the lack of pricing news by this stage at least doesn't equate to a familiar and very nasty shock.

I believe there's a lot of this going on with those sellers on eBay who claim to have UK-based iPads. I think that even now many of them will be still on their way from the US to the seller (assuming it's not all a total scam of course).

The one I bought on Wednesday still hasn't been dispatched. Admittedly the seller did say to give him 2 days (waiting for them to arrive himself?). If there's no email with tracking number by 5pm today he'll be getting a 'Dude, where's my iPad?' message from me.

Apple surely must be looking at this happening (not to imply your ipad seller is definitely a scam, McMack, but there are plenty out there that are) and thinking they should get their sh$t together and give us a price now. It would seem to me that a company that prides itself on being quite ethical would not like to be seen to be letting other companies get away with scamming people using their flagship product. Even if in reality there's not much they can do about it - people gotta scam each other, that's the way of the world - other than start selling the damn thing to people in the rest of the world who want to buy it of course. But the media will eventually latch onto the fact that people might be getting scammed if it went on too long, they always do, and that's bad news for Apple.

Or on the other hand, Apple could just not give a toss.

Personally I'm not putting my money down with any of these sellers, ebay or no - Apple, Amazon or Play.com are more my scene.

I'd be extremely wary of those ones that use the Apple pictures. I've seen a few that definitely are legit, but if you don't go to the bother of taking a quick photograph something is a bit suspicious...

Although the rate is currently getting marginally more favourable as each day passes.

It's just that though... marginal. If they were planning on starting at £399 a week ago, they could probably reduce that to £391 at today's rate.

Price

What are the latest guesses on price?
I have a friend off to NY in a few weeks, so it looks like I could get a US or UK one around the same sort of time.
I would normally go for the UK just so that I have no return issues, however I really dont want to be ripped off for it.

I think a 64GB WiFi is $699, which equates to around £475. I am guessing it will be close to £600 over here. If that is right I could seriously be tempted to ask him to pick a US one up for me.

What do you think the chances of it being between £500-550?

On Monday my parents went shopping in Birmingham and when they went for a coffee, there was a man using an iPad (!) My dad spoke to the guy and it turns out that he is an american apple employee (might have come to Birmingham to show the staff at the apple store) and has had his current iPad (32GB wifi) since Feb and has had an iPad in some shape or form since july! He let my parents have a bit of a play with the iPad. So annoyed I decided not to join them in town!! If I was there I might have tried to mug him haha.

I suppose it all depends on what what the interpretation of 'unbelievable price' could mean...

International companies refer to Britain as 'Treasure Island' for a reason. I was a first-generation PlayStation3 purchaser and I remember the comments of some Sony execs at the time with considerable bitterness. But I still bought the product.

My guess is the 32GB wifi will be £479. If the prices are UNBELIEVABLE in the bad sense, around £550.
64Gb, good price: £550ish, UNBELIEVABLE (bad) price: £650

Info I've had is that they will be inline with U.S. prices plus VAT, remembering that nearly all US states add sales tax to their prices. :):)

Yeah but we don't pay US Sales Tax AND VAT.

Did your Apple oracle happen to clarify whether we should be adding both taxes?

Just take US prices, exchange to GBP and add VAT, should round out to an entry level price of roughly £399.

At least thats my opinion and hope. :):)

£385.85 ish (could be a penny either way) for the 16GB model, so probably £399

A few pages back i posted realistic proces, ill bring them back

:apple:Mike

So using your thinking....

MacBook US store $999 = £653 + 17.5% = £767
MacBook UK store £816

£50 discrepancy

iPad 32gb Wifi $599 = £393 + 17.5% = £461
+ the £50 discrepancy

Estimate = £510

___

iPad 16GB $499 = £327 + 17.5% = £385
+ the £50 discrepancy

Estimate = £435

____

iPad 64GB $699 = £457 + 17.5% = £537
+ the £50 discrepancy

Estimate = £587

I think sterling prices will play closer to the euro than dollar. They still will not be exact translations as they never are. Euro pricing will be exact copy of Dollar structure.

For example

€499 = £449. 16gb
€599 = £529. 32gb
€699 = £619. 64gb

So I estimated pretty much close to that figure (with the exception of 64gb which was out slightly more) and was still booed down.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

WIFI

16gb- £380-400

32gb- £470-490

64gb- £560-580

3G/WIFI

16gb- £450-480

32gb- £540-570

64gb- £630-660

So an extra £80 for 3G

and about £90 between the models, maybe more, maybe less...

Just specualtion, but based on the US prices and the current exchange rate I think its plausible

Wouldnt say £50 discrepency, i would rather go with an 8% discrepency, at this ties in with most products in the store

Using current exchange rate there is a slight difference yes, I'm only speculating on info I've received. It maybe right or wrong, who knows?

Using your example of $999 at todays exchange rate calculated here, http://www.xe.com/ucc/convert.cgi?Amount=999&From=USD&To=GBP&image.x=39&image.y=13&image=Submit

The UK price should be ROUGHLY £764. :):)

did he have a black turtle-neck, jeans, white trainers and round glasses per chance? ;)

I know how you guys feel, I've been dying to get my hands on one, but I may be getting excited over nothing if the prices are too high.
I love Apple and the iPad looks amazing, but I can only afford so much.

I wish they'd release pricing.
