I couldn't wait any longer, bit the bullet, paid £600 cash for the 32gb model and collected it from an Ebay seller in London. Ultimately after Apple tax, I don't think the 32gb model will be that much cheaper when it comes out in the UK, but more importantly, there's no more waiting.

Worth the 120 mile round trip drive to get it? Definitely. There's no doubt that it's a gratuitous purchase but it's sooo worth it!

That's not a bad price!

However, with the cost of petrol these days ..............

Only kidding, enjoy and tell us what you think.

well the potentially dodgy person on ebay just refunded my money, saying paypal had 'put a limit on his account'. Whatever, at least I seem to be ok there. If he contacts me asking to use a different account I'll run a mile.

Well, I've just got back from Heathrow. I met my mate who's over here for a holiday and he sold me his 16 GB model as he's decided to buy a 3G one when they're released.

Just syncing it now.

:)

You have to log into the new mytfl discount site (launched April 6th 10) then you search for apple then u see the 17% link.

Wont know for sure until the Ipad prices are put up

It's a pity that it looks like there won't be any HE discount on the iPad. Find that very handy when buying computers. Can't win em all though. :-s

My friend arrived from San Francisco. On my way to pick up mine now.

32GB came to £443 with California sales tax to give you guy an idea of what the actual cost is.

Anyone got any opinions/info on whether we'll get the 3G versions released at the same time as the wifi over here? IIRC that was what was implied at the launch event ("Wifi models in 60 days, 3g models and international availability 30d after that" or something) but a pessimistic reader of that might think that it means 3G models in the States at the end of this month and just the wifi-only ones over here with the 3G ones to follow later.

They never mentioned international availability in the launch event. It was clarified afterwards that it would be available in the US and a number of other countries at the end of March. The UK and other EU websites even said launches Late March for around a Month when Apple changed there mind and delayed the launch to Late April outside the US. The press release stating this did say that the 3G version would be available in the UK at the same time.

I am keeping my fingers crossed for the 3G version being available here in the UK at the same time as well. For me the GPS is of major importance. I am not bothered about the 3G side of things, in fact prob wont put a sim in even if I could find one that size. I use a MIFI device for mobile internet.

That's incorrect. As is the other followup to this post (the one above mine). What was exactly said was: 60 days WORLDWIDE availability of WiFi models. 90 days worldwide availability of 3G.

Im pretty sure it will be available on launch along with WIFI versions.

I dont think you place a sim in it , im sure its built in but its gotta be activated with a network provider

I wasnt aware of MIFI devices in UK (just heard of them in the past month) , How big is it and how much do you pay and who do you pay ?

Apple.com said:
Pricing & Availability
iPad will be available in late March worldwide for a suggested retail price of $499 (US) for the 16GB model, $599 (US) for the 32GB model, $699 (US) for the 64GB model. The Wi-Fi + 3G models of iPad will be available in April in the US and selected countries for a suggested retail price of $629 (US) for the 16GB model, $729 (US) for the 32GB model and $829 (US) for the 64GB model.

This has since been superseded by the new announcement regarding late April availability of both models in the UK. Given that Jobs explicitly confirmed the late April date the other day and all int'l Apple websites still keep saying that with 20 days to go until the end of April, I think we are still on track for a late April release. All of this based on official news, no rumors...

You do put a sim in it, it's a micro sim. I have not seen them in the UK yet though. I would think the 3G side will need activation but I suspect the rest of it will be the same as the wifi model as far as getting it running is concerned. Plug it into iTunes on a Mac or PC and off you go.

The MIFI device I have is a one suppled by Three. It's on PAYG and was about £70, complete with 3 months data at 1GB a month. Thats quite a lot for me. But can be bought on it's own or under a contract for those stup....err inclined that way. There is another MIFI available a Novatel 2352 which is sim free but costs about £200. The Three one can be made sim free easy enough though. Works great with my iPhone.

Is that not exactly the same as I posted?

Yeah I thought it was too at first but then i noticed you said:

90 days worldwide availability of 3G.

Whereas this says:
The Wi-Fi + 3G models of iPad will be available in April in the US and selected countries

So it looks like they never promised worldwide availability of the 3G version. <shrugs>

Interesting, in my view the real benefit of the MiFi connection is that it allows you to use "Wifi-only" apps, such as Skype, VOIP, etc, over a 3G connection. In this respect, MiFi turns out to be a better option that the built-in 3G for iPad...
