hopefully BBC come out with something similar soon. The games are amazing and the screen is just fantastic. If it sounds like I'm gushing, its because I am :)

Can't you just go onto the iPlayer website and save it to your homescreen in the mean time? I imagine that would be quite good on the iPad!

Favourite apps so far??

BIN. $850 for the iPad + $50 for Delivery. $900 = €680 on the rates that day. Quite happy with price, they promised to put value down as $10 and mark as GIFT for customs, so I'm hoping I won't have to pay anything.

I'd imagine that €680 would be the kind of RRP for the 64GB iPad here anyway.

Like I say the gamble is the VAT / DUTY. Finger's X'd :)

good deal _ best of luck with the tax!

I saw that first thing this morning 20 at £400 each and zero rating. Out of interest I emailed him and said would he be ok for a collect in person to check it over and to pay cash. Not really interested as I want a 3G one. But this was his reply.

Many thanks for your email. We have just had an
offer from a business to
bulk buy all our stock so
I am afraid that the item is now being taken
off
sale on here as they are all sold. Many thanks for
your enquiry

It's not listable now. Wonder if it was a scam?

I expect to hear from Apple shortly

So we wont get the iPads but at least they can begin pre-ordering in April so we were semi-close ;)

Exactly… The reason why only a few countries have an announced "late april" launch date, is because Apple probably was not sure about the demand of iPad in the US. Most likely Apple estimated that they would be able to ramp up production enough to safely launch in those few countries so shortly after the US launch date. The reason why it might be even later could be that there is overwhelming demand in the US that Apple didn’t expect. I don’t know if this is the case. But if it is, it makes sense for Apple to first stabilize supply and demand in the US, subsequently roll out in the announced countries, stabilize over there and after that do a further roll out.

IMO it appears that a delay is likely, because the preorder window is starting to get a little short.

While I agree with your assessment, I would have thought Apple would have silently changed the ETA date on the website... Even at the OS 4 press conference Steve was asked about international shipping and he replied "Late April". So I still hold to it being so.. though it might be late april for announcement and May for shipping.

Doesn't work unfortunately. Hopefully it's only a matter of time.

Favorite apps, there are so many good ones. Still haven't really gotten into everything yet. The Reuters and Guardian gallery apps are amazing. I've only used the free apps :)

The Legends MMO app is just brilliant. You get an MMO style interface and real 3D environment to move in. It has a the stats and other people, though you do have to pay to go to other areas of the game. Just the beginning of these types of game.

The main WOW factor is the immersiveness of the screen. Video which I thought was going to be just OK is brilliant. The quality of the screen is top notch. Apple choose wisely with the screen panel. Youtube is brilliant so far. They really streamlined that app so you can watch and type comments without taking you out of the experience.

The comic and music apps are great too. It really is just about the screen space. And the weight is quite nice, firm but not as heavy as I was thinking before. Overall just a fantasic device, dare I say magical. ;)

I typed all this on the ipad of course!

Remember in the states there's one network. The UK has the most competition, which will mean the most negotiations. It doesn't matter whether those started at the announcement or not they will still take time.

Apple is known for it's brinkmanship in these cases.

I don't really see what they have to negotiate with the networks for as it's advertised as going to be sim free. Not tied to any network so no subsidy. I suspect the AT&T one is stuck in there just in case people might want to go with them. A bit like when you buy a laptop. The set them up for AOL etc. just in case you might be dumb enough to sign up with them. I think it might be a matter of making sure the 3G part conforms to UK standards before its licensed to go on any of our networks.

Just got the iPad delivered from ebay and I just have one word to say. STUNNING!

Have tonnes of apps ready to use for it. Ibooks is great!

I assume you downloaded iBooks with a US iTunes account? If so, are you able to buy books from the store even though you're in the UK?

So what about Wifi version. That does not require any agreement with Data providers, and Apple already stated in the original Keynote that 3G version would be sim free, ship as same time worldwide with the Wifi version, and data agreements for worldwide countries like UK would 'hope to be in place" (Steve's own words 1:14mins into Keynote) for the 3G in June/July.

I doubt it very much & if true, i'm glad I eBayed.

So what your basically saying is that if it is delayed because of 3G data agreements + going on Apple's original Keynote = that wont be released until June/July (Steve hopes)
Actually looking at that youtube video it looks very bleak for the 3G model in the UK :( He says it's not expected to be released till June or July. If were lucky and there are no holdups. The US will get theirs about the same time as we get the WIFI one I suspect. Can't see why if the damned thing is sim free. If he wants to offer a "super deal" for data he can send it along later and I will file it with the rest of the spam. Surely it should be up to us who we go with if we indeed want to go with anyone. I only want it for the GPS. If I could use a GPS on the bluetooth would be fine. But no chance.

He doesn't say the 3G model won't be released until June or July, just that the 3G deals won't be sorted until then. It still says the 3g will be released with the wi-fi model in late April on the Apple UK web site.

I do hope your right. I suppose I am looking on the black side, expecting it to be used as an excuse for a delay.

When he talks about June he's talking about when a more official deal is done, along the lines of the AT&T one in the US. They'll still be selling the 3G models here, but you'll have to organise your own thing with a carrier in the meantime.

Yes, just a quick panic when I saw the video. I wouldnt care I saw it on the day of launch but forgot that detail. I will be using it with a MiFi anyway so wont need a sim.

Yes you can setup a US account easy enough. There are lot of free books to download mainly from Project Gutenburg. Yes you can buy the books but you need to have it on the US account.

dvdworldusa is shipping from the US,not the UK (as they seemed to suggest when I called them on Friday). So mine should be here weds/thurs - I don't think its coming direct, I think they're shipping in bulk to the UK then reposting, thereby avoiding any risk of being hit for duty/VAT.

Apple like everything tied up. That's why I speculate that they'd like at least one deal. Let's face it if it's sim-free that's ok but would you go for any of the data deals around at the moment? Especially if you're already into 35 quid a month for your Apple phone?

Yep. I'm speculating - I'm not saying for certain. No-one can actually 'say'.

See above.

I think this is why i will go 3g. Will try using MyWi or whatever it is called, but nice to have 3g option and I love having GPS on my phone.

With the size of the display I am expecting it to be brilliant for mapping. Plus I do a lot of aviation related things and I am hoping this will fit in nicely.

Thanks for confirming that! I set up a US iTunes account a couple of days ago in preparation, so I'm all set to go with iBooks (plus I've already got the kindle app too, which works well on the iphone so must be fantastic on the iPad). come on, Apple!!! :apple:

My concern is what happens to the stuff that you get under the US account once you switch back to syncing with your UK account once the UK iPad apps store opens.

Anybody know what you'd lose? What you won't lose? Any other complications?

Also, how is it easy to set up an American store account if you don't have a credit card with a USA billing address. Don't iTS accounts require a credit card?

Sorry, missed your point. I think this is what will tip it for me too.

I believe it uses the same GPS chip as the 3GS which turned out better than I expected. I was doing some comparisons with my Garmin handheld. I removed the sim and found the initial fix from cold and the fix on a warm start were very similar. I can live without A-GPS for my uses. Though I did read someone did tests on a 3GS and a MiFi after removing the sim from the iPhone and found they were getting A-GPS. I still cant fathom how it got across on WIFI.

I think most people are buying iTunes cards from eBay etc. same as you buy here, except US ones. Use that to kick the account off. But as the iPad will sync with whichever account your logged into I cant see how you would be able to keep all your US and UK apps together. Might end up an either or.
