Yes, release date was delayed, sure, we know that, but perhaps the fact that they stated they wouldn't make any announcements before release day in UK is true? After all, they haven't so far, and with just 12 days or so to go if it is 24th April, then we're edging very close to the date. Surely they would have made some sort of announcement by now if they intended to?

I can remember at least two launches. Can't remember what they were for now. iPods I think. But there was the typical keynote by Steve Jobs. At the end he said, and these are available from tomorrow world wide. No warning or preorder there. Worse case they may just post on their website the day before that it's available from tomorrow. But I doubt they will just appear on the day with no warning at all.

In regards to pricing :-

Macworld UK said:
Macworld UK originally estimated a launch price of £388 for the iPad. Following another drop in the value of sterling we have now adjusted this figure.

Macworld UK now estimates the following UK pricing for the iPad at launch:

iPad Wi-Fi: £417 (16GB); £500 (32GB); £584 (64GB)

Wi-Fi + 3G: £526 (16GB); £610 (32GB); £693 (64GB)

Those figures are based on the current US exchange rate against the current rate of sterling which is now $1.50 for every £1, plus 17.5 per cent VAT (Value Added Tax - the UK term for sales tax - this is included with the price in the UK, but excluded from the price in the US) plus an extra 7 per cent. This is the amount we judge Apple charges extra in the UK over the US. This is the: "it just costs a little bit more to do business here, move stuff around, service product and so on" rate that Apple's CEO Steve Jobs spoke to us about during the original iPhone launch in the UK. You can watch the video of Steve Jobs talking about price differences

Euro pricing based at 21% Vat on those figures (rounded up to the nearest most natural sounding R.R.P appropriate figure)

16GB = €489 32GB = €589 64GB = €689

I originally predicted Apple would simply use the straight € to $ and those new figures are as close to damn it, that is seems believable.

So I'd guess following the above principal (rounded up to the nearest most natural sounding R.R.P appropriate figure) UK pricing would be

16GB = £419 32GB = £499/509 64GB = £579/589

Those prices are bloody brutal, aren't they? :eek:

I really need the 3G 32gb to suit my needs, but anything over £600 is too much for an iPad in my opinion. I really think that £550 will be my
limit.

£110 extra for 3G? Isn't it $110 also? That seems very high.

You mean it's not? I thought that guy in the photo had a small head ...

Oh s**t and I just sold my iphone.

It's a larger iPod Touch - the iPad doesn't have telephony capabilities as of present.

(iPad Wifi + 3G could technically be vapourware since we haven't seen it as a public device yet)

On another phone note - anyone seen the HTC Evo's price tag on Sprint's inventory? It's $5555.55 is someone 5 happy?

555 is the fictitious US dialing code all films etc use. Maybe that was the inspiration?

btw. I think we're looking at 700 notes for the top end iPad. That's a premium price alright. I expect some subsidisation will be needed.

I was a first gen iPhone buyer. It cost me £269+ contract. Will there be a price drop for the iPad?

Hmm, possibly :D

Ah please do remind me how much my iPhone costed me. O2 can shove it up there for not crediting me when I had clearly spent a lot, over £4k in the 18 months I had been with them. I stayed at the same O2 priority level despite many CS reps trying to bump me up lol.

Back to iPad, anything past £700 isn't that tasty.
