My iPad from 2020 and my iPhone 12 does the same. If charging and at full brightness and in a warm area, the screen brightness would decrease until one of those were dealt with. You could even move the brightness slider to the top, but it wouldn’t actually change the brightness. It ONLY happened under those circumstances though. If it’s just sitting there doing nothing after a few days and STILL dimming, might be worth checking with Apple.
Yeah, this is doing it even when not charging. My iPhone will do the same when charging, too.

Sorry man I was just messing around LOL to be honest I actually prefer the slight increase in weight because it feels more solid in premium but that’s just my opinion
Lol it's all good, I'll admit to being dramatic about it but it's an important attribute to me. Interesting take that you prefer the heftier weight... I thought the 2018 12.9" was just on the verge of comfortable to hold for long periods of time. I do see what you mean about the new one feeling nice and premium.

It's a point of contention because I hate having to choose lightweight and portable vs. biggest and now highest quality screen. It turns out it's an extremely hard decision! :p

I wonder if this M1 iPad will be less likely to experience bend gate Since it seems a lot more sturdy

Yeah it’s fine now, dunno what caused it though. Battery life certainly not great though. Already down to 11%
Battery life hasn't been great for me also, guessing the apps we are using aren't optimised yet for the new iPads, will hold off judgment on battery life until the apps I use have been updated.

if you use your ipad a lot in the dark it is very noticeable
What level brightness are you using it at night? my eyes have never liked high brightness, always have mine around 35-40% at night.

No need to be an ass, it's just less wieldy of a tablet with the extra weight. Less comfortable to hold for long periods of time. Have you compared this gen to the 2018?
Honestly can't tell the difference in weight from my previous 3rd gen model.

I charged mine to 100% last night, then it was on standby for around 9-10 hours after which I had almost 6 hours of on screen time to reach 17%. That is in a bright lit room and using it with the magic keyboard, mostly web browsing and setting up apps but also some YouTube.

I think that is okay but not great really, seems to be about the same as the 2020 I used before.

Viewing this forum in dark mode in a pitch black room, everything looks great, eyes starting to adapt to the new display, I recommend setting your brightness to 35% when viewing content in dark mode and at night In dark environments.

try it out for a couple of days and let us know how you go.

How is the screen looking in non hdr content. Does it look better than past iPads due to mini led
Im using it now for a day, compared to my 2018 I can’t’ really notice much difference.. frankly, my Home Screen comparing the two looks essentially identical. Webpages, same. I was expecting a bit more vibrancy and contrast even just in day to day use. Haven’t gone into the HDR or 4K or my photos realm YET, but will do it this weekend.

Looks different to me, definitely more contrast and blacks are definitely deep black now, seeing it in safari and across the UI, in both HDR and non HDR.

weather widget has more contrast, blue pops more, battery widget, green has more contrast and the list goes on

I bit the bullet and bought the 512 GB version. I’m coming from a 10.5-inch pro that I briefly replaced with an Air 4. I gave my Air to my parents and traded in a base 7 and then 10.5, which basically paid for the white Magic Keyboard and then some. My goodness, this thing is a beast. I’ve never had an ipad this large before, but I’m starting to make money with my artwork and felt like this would be beneficial to my workflow. I will have this thing for years!!! I’m so glad I traded in at my local Apple Store since I had read all of the Phobio horror stories. The girl that helped me was so kind and even though the 10.5 had a noticeable white dot, she still gave me the full value. I think I bought the last one at my store.

So one thing I noticed on my new iPad Pro 12.9 is on safari, no matter how many tabs I leave open, when I return back to them there’s no refresh. I even checked the settings if app refresh was turned on, and it is. I always had a constant refresh every time I would switch a tab on my 2018 12.9 256 pro.

I think Apple made a mistake here – they should have utilized an adaptive system that had a uniform backlight across the entire panel for regular content, only using the zones for full-screen video.

This is almost what happened to me yesterday. I went to the Apple store and was totally upfront that the 10.5 had terrible glare but he said the trade-in guys won't even look at that since I had dark mode on. They ended up giving me the full value!!

Use it at minimum / 0% in bed at night and I see blooming everyehere that has pitch Black dark mode

Then I suspect you have something wrong with your unit. I see nothing like that, I see halo effects from it being too bright before I see any blooming (tested by covering up the object on the screen). Did you update to the .1 update and then restart like some people suggested?
