iPad shipped, Apple just sent out tracking numbers!

Remember when you used to order something by mail and it took 8-12 weeks?

Now, ZOMG what does this nonsensical tracking message mean four days before it's supposed to be here?! I need to get both parties on a conference call stat.

I ordered mine late on the 18th, and haven't seen any activity as far as shipment is concerned. I actually started thinking that because I ordered late, it might come the following week or even a week later (even though it said delivery on 4/3). Was getting nervous.
Just got my notification! Wow. Its the little things in life huh?? Looks like I'll have something to look forward to on Sat! Yea!
Next time I order on the first day.

That will happen occasionally as UPS tries to sort out times as well as the applicability of service messages (like those brokerage and hold messages you probably saw today).
That is normal, and your package is DEFINITELY in PANC, Anchorage so long as an earlier scan said so.
What did it say before? Because maybe your package was "supposed" to be on that plane and it reflected in the initial manifest, but may have gotten pulled or not included so it was updated to reflect such a change... possible, but I dont know if it happened.
Ahh, yea. Definitely the manifest thing - if it didn't scan in Anchorage, then it isn't there. The customs clearances may have been generalized to all packages sent in a certain manifest, however UPS may not have sent those all at once, meaning those brokerage and hold messages were applied, but your package was never actually sent to AK like the rest of the ones UPS sent that message to, so it go deleted as UPS audited their shipment manifests for continuity and customs clearance.
I have to work until noon, is there anyway I could contact UPS and ask them if they could push the delivery to later in the day. I live on a college campus and I know they will deliver it early and I won't be there to accept and then I have to wait until Monday.
yeah the date is yesterday (3.29), but when I checked earlier on my iPhone it was an Exception and had Lexington, Kentucky listed. All that is now deleted. Other people having that?
The only way other than that would be to go to www.apple.com/store - Click on "Account" and then "order status".
Go to your order and then click the "Pre-sign for this shipment" link.
While they may not be able to leave the package at your dorm door (I know that probably isn't a good idea xD) you can have them deliver it to someone else in your building who will be available at that time.
Other than that, UPS does NOT arrange for time-definite delivery, and explicitly states that in their contract of carriage. Sorry dude
If I were UPS I think I'd ask Apple not to give out those tracking numbers -- got to be quite a burden on those Dell servers they use.

hey! Like I said before, Apple has to send out THEIR iPads too, meaning their store's shipments plus ours! There is still plenty of time to get them here - trust me Apple has this all planned out

if it gets to Thursday and no status changes...then both UPS and Apple get calls....you crazy?? I wouldnt wait a single minute but to bother those disorganized UPS agents...now at least they know what is going on with the Apple arrangement though..

people are getting nervous because they are stuck on prepared for shipment while the majority on this forum have tracking numbers.
I am one of the people who pre-ordered right away on the 12th and my ipad is sitting on the prepared for shipment phase, so while Im sure I'll have it in my hands on Saturday, there is still a small bit of "what if" nervousness that has me wondering if I wont get it as promised.
I am going to assume that my iPad is already sitting in a warehouse on the West Coast and my status will update Thursday Night *fingers crossed*
Wow, now my tracking number seems to have some kind of activity at the local hub near my home. But it doesn't show leaving China yet or even getting to Louisville, KY. What the heck is going on?
