waa...why haven't I gotten a tracking number yet :( I ordered mine within a few minutes if opening. I hope my debit card being declined didn't delay it. I fixed the problem immediately, and Apple charged me for it...so it shouldn't.

That's the reason, don't worry. Mine was shipped an hour ago, you'll get yours by Saturday. It just needs to be cleared in the shipping faculty in China. Well, that's what I've heard. :D

this thread is kinda scaring me...

why are people sitting on their computers and refreshing UPS/figuring out which flight their order is on???

They will all be in your front door come April 3rd so does it really matter?

A little overboard me thinks...everyone go to sleep.

Got mine at 6:54 this evening ( 3-30-10 ) and I had mY order submitted within 30 seconds of the the site going live on the 12th.

Currently when I check UPS, I get the no info message and am told to check my tracking number and try back later.

Ready for Saturday though!

Same here:

LOUISVILLE, KY, US 03/31/2010 1:36 A.M. ARRIVAL SCAN

The local exception isn't in the log anymore, either.

Next stop (for me) KONT, CA. Probably flight UPS918 (departs 3:51am EDT, arrives 4:31am PDT).

Why are you sitting on your computer and watching Forum Spy for posts on iPad shipping status? I suspect you're not even receiving one, so who's the more overboard?? Why am I even responding, when I should be checking ups.com & flightaware.com??

(Go 'way. We're enjoying ourselves. :p)

I got my tracking number 8 pm PST USA time, and I ordered mine March 26th at 9 pm so shorty after that they shut down the April 3rd pre-orders and changed them soon after to April 12th. So I am near the last of ordering for the delivery date of 4/3.

So I would say that means everyone who is getting a delivery on 4/3 should have their tracking number by now or I would start getting concerned.

I can't wait for April 3, Saturday to get here. ;)

Not from UPS, but I strongly suspect 4/3. ;)

Reminds me of a question that Abraham Lincoln once asked...
"How many legs does a dog have if you called its tail a leg?"
The Answer
"4, you can call the tail a leg, but it is still just a tail"

If you get Saturday delivery 4/3, if not, 4/5. But none of that truth will take away the raw (and very odd) attraction we have at watching the tracking page.

(mine will be flying over the Pacific in a few hours)

Except orders are not processing in order of receipt. I wouldn't be concerned until tomorrow.

Finally...I have arrival in KY!!!! NICEEEEE :D:D:D:D:D

interesting...

From INEWZ TECH:

UPS is delivering the iPad and Apple is making sure that nobody will get the Apple iPad early. You will get your iPad on Saturday, April 3rd, if UPS has Saturday delivery in your area.
But how can Apple make sure that no iPad slips through early to a lucky customer? The delivery noticesreached lots of iPad customers this week.

Boy Genius Report has a conclusive answer to this question. Apple is holding back the iPads at customs. The iPad is coming into the U.S. from Asia where they are manufactured and also already fulfilled. By holding back the customs papers, UPS cannot process the packages as they are stuck in customs clearance.

and more INews Tech..

I think everyone is okay with this news...

From Boy Genius:

Lots of TUAW readers have written in today, worried about their iPad deliveries. Since they received shipment notices, many folks have been tracking their progress, and are now seeing messages like:

UPS INTERNAL ACTIVITY.
SHIPMENT IS HELD TO VERIFY COMMODITY DESCRIPTION WITH THE CUSTOMER FOR CORRECT CLASSIFICATION
"Your package has experienced an exception"
If you received one of these notices, you are not alone. Apple has taken similar measures in the past to make sure that deliveries do not arrive before the official release date. In fact, Boy Genius Reportsuggests that Apple is purposefully withholding clearance papers for the iPads to make sure that they are not delivered early.

As anxious as these next few days of waiting will be, and as nerve-racking as it is when this is your iPad, I fully expect that 99.99% of the iPads scheduled for delivery on Saturday will be delivered on Saturday.

We've also heard directly from someone who works "for a certain shipping company" who reports that they will have double the number of drivers out in their particular delivery area on Saturday, due to the increased traffic. I would expect that other areas would see similar increases. Nobody who works for a shipping company wants to have to go back to Apple and explain why they couldn't meet delivery needs.

That being said, the same source does not expect exceptions to be made for areas without Saturday delivery, so you may have to wait until Monday for your iPad to be delivered. Don't panic -- we're sure UPS will do everything it can to get your iPad to you on time. If you're not sure about the delivery policy in your area, you may want to contact UPS to verify.

Don't worry about the exception messages, unless you get "eaten by alligator"*

They will appear, they will disappear, until the 'apple hammer' hits at either Kentucky or your local UPS location.

The first set of IPads have made it across the Pacific, the big day is today as most of them make the big journey.

And if you have not received you tracking number, or yours doesn't leave Red China today or tomorrow... just realize that it only takes 24 hours to deliver anywhere in the US from China.

I have had the same scan for the last two days. WTF? No change at all.

I was just coming to post the same thing. I expected to see some change had happened overnight, but no, just Shenzhen Origin Scan.

I still have no charge or pre-auth right now, but they've auth'd me twice already so that doesn't really concern me.

Shipped! and I was a l-a-t-e order...

Gastonia, isn't that close-'ish' to the new Apple data center? I mean, close relative to the rest of us at least.

Weird iPad UPS Exception...

SHENZHEN, CN 03/31/2010 7:49 P.M.

THE SERVICE SELECTED IS NOT AVAILABLE TO THE DESTINATION ADDRESS / DOWNGRADED, FORWARDED TO CONSIGNEE, SELECTED SERVICE IS NOT AVAILABLE

Anyone else have this as an exception for their iPad? Im aware that Apple will do some things to stall shipment to insure it gets there on the 3rd but this exception is kind of weird. Ive never had problems getting packages on Saturday delivery.
