iPad shipped, Apple just sent out tracking numbers!

PREORDER on HOLD TIL MONDAY!!!?

Just got off the phone with UPS...and apparently my pre order that was scheduled for the 3rd, will be delivered on the 5th instead! WTF? I thought Apple said these things would be HERE in my hand on the 3rd when I pre order?!? My town has saturday delivery from UPS? and Under UPS contract with apple, I can't just go pick it up until after 1 Delivery Attempt has been made? Wow, looks like UPS dropped the ball on this.

UPS shows delivered and none of us got them. Don't get me started on the misdeliveries too. Sounds familiar! Either me or my wife has been home before and not a knock or doorbell ring.. just a yellow note on the door "sorry we missed you". The UPS facility is a 30-minute ride away with limited office hours. I work in the opposite direction 45 minutes away from home and cannot automatically take off work in an instant (need a 2 weeks heads-up!). I think the drivers just don't always feel like making that personal connection with the home owner and it is quicker to pre-fill out that sticky form, hop out of the truck, stick it on the door and run to the truck to speed away and not have to deal with the customer. That puts pressure on both the recipient and the UPS people working at the facility. Annoying nonetheless! The postal service does something similar. My dad sent me a box of lemons recently from his abundant tree and it wasn't delivered when my wife was home.. then held up for 4 extra days at the post office. Their pink slip with the blank to request redelivery is flat-out ignored at my local post office. I was pissed about the condition of the lemons when I finally got them.
 
I'm pretty jealous of you guys. My iPad has just sat with "Billing Information Received" for a few days now. No other scans or activity. I'm sure it will show up tomorrow since I ordered it the first day, but it sure does make me wonder.

Interesting.. where are you located?
 
Flight 21 is landing in Kentucky in about 15 minutes, you'll probably get your scans within 45 mins. And to know you're on flight 21, your tracking should look like this:

Six of one 1/2 dozen of the other: In my daily interactions with UPS, it seems 99% possible the online tracking info is screwed up. It most often is. However, it's also 99% impossible that a shipment for delivery tomorrow could be sitting in a hub without having an origin scan to enter it into the UPS system. Someone would need to be preparing it for transfer to my local hub. That skid of iPads would need unpacking scanning and sorting by now.

I'm hoping the the online tracking info is screwed up, and my iPad isn't still sitting in China waiting for pickup.

I would agree. I live in the northeast and I also have had worldease packages sent to me. It all depends on the area and package load for the sorting center.

And I think also that the info on tracking is screwed up a lot too because of the demand on the systems and the complexity of all of these shipments going though in succession.

I still would not worry as UPS knows not to screw around with this.

And we still have all day for those pallets to be broken up - which may not even show up on any scans until departure.

I think we are all going too far into speculation, now it is just waiting for tomorrow.

I called UPS...confirmed i have Saturday delivery, but they say my package will be delivered on the 5th. The woman said some packages have an "exception on them" and those will be delivered on the 3rd and that mine does not have this "exception" so it will be delivered on the 5th?! Wasn't this a FIRM "you will have it at launch"? Can I get my money back for my shipping or something? lol.

From what I've read on this thread, it would seem our westcoast and midwest friends are having better luck with shipping than folks in the northeast. I'm thinking UPS dropped the ball on this hardcore in planning when to ship the goods from China.

this is a good thing. I spoke to a rep at UPS. If you have an "exception" means you will 100% get it on Saturday. If you don't, then you're SOL EVEN if you ordered RIGHT when they went on pre-sale.

Techdude, I need you to do some investigating for me since I am at work. Can you try and figure out what flight you think my iPad will be on returning to Alaska for delivery tomorrow? Right now I think it's on Flight 43 heading to KY from here now.

Does anyone have the international UPS number that I can call to be able to find out if my package is scheduled to be delivered to me on Saturday or on Monday? Because when I called my local UPS center, it was kind of a crapshoot.

No. You east coasters are just too uptight. ;)

If people don't get them on the 3rd, it will be very few. All of the people stressing and calling Apple and UPS won't help a damn thing. I hope they are purposely delaying packages for people who keep calling.

One guy talked to a rep who told him this... I'm not really buying it as official at this point. My iPad is on a different tracking (the UPS21 plane), but I wouldn't quite give up hope on saturday delivery yet for anyone. To me it sounds like this whole deal has been highly orchestrated between Apple and UPS, and may not be "business as usual" so random phone rep may not fully understand the exact procedures that are going to be taken.
