They are holding that flight until they get my iPad off of the Korea plane. :)

I'm outside Chicago.

Haha, So am I....The thing that confuses me is that I'm apparently ON the Korea plane, but also have the "EXCEPTION" from Kentucky. Can Anyone explain this? I've been on the Kentucky "EXCEPTION" since 8AM

Maybe...but it could have been on the once yesterday which i think is more likely

You are right - it was the UPS43 flight that left on the 1st of April.

This is the flight that everyone's were on, according to their scans. UPS61 does not correlate to anyone's scans, unless for some reason the packages got left in Korea for this flight (but I highly doubt it).

Remember that UPS43 arrived LATER than UPS21, meaning that their updates will come later than ours just did.

UPS43

It is basically a reconfirmation thing for customs. It seems that for some reason teh shipments of iPads that got kept in China the longest had some of them with the "notices" to hold them once they got to KY. However since UPS never moved them, they are finally showing up now.

It is nothing to worry about, but it does not necessarily mean your package is IN KY, but it is likely because of the timings of the flights....

Also some people may still have an Alaska departure and no KY info, well another UPS flight just left Alaska and is 4 hours out (still plenty of time): http://flightaware.com/live/flight/UPS23

That makes total sense. I forget these are 24/7 operations. I am not worried. I'm sure I'll see UPS tomorrow. Hopefully early. :)

Haha yupp :)

If you are in a major area, it should be by 12 Noon - UPS is just saying all day because certain areas have time definite (and certain areas within that umbrella have different time guarantees) and some cities don't hold to those guarantees - so they are just saying that so they cover their butts, and possibly too with the high demand in places like NY, Boston, Chicago, ETC they may deliver somewhat later than that time.

anyone else have the same updates? i am getting nervous even though UPS keeps telling me that its on its way just not showing up in the system and it will be here tomorrow

i dont understand why some people get status updates while others of us dont
you either decide to scan the packages or not to...you dont scan every 5th or 10th one or 8th etc......that would be dumb.

I was just about to post the exact same thing. We've all received a hell of a crash course in how UPS flights operate over the last 2 or 3 days.

Haha I learned a little bit myself - but being a frequent shipper and handling all of my parents and most of my friend's packages too, I have some practice with UPS and FedEx :) (And plus I have ordered things from Apple that have come this route before. As well as preordering my iPod touch, which also got similarly delayed as mine did).

And it somewhat makes sense why those who ordered earliest got delayed. UPS probably bundled the shipments and held them, and they knew exactly how many they had there. So when Apple was giving them their promised "final shipments" UPS would know EXACTLY how much room on the last flights they would need to get them here on time :)

Makes sense, really...

Same Here...

Hell, I still have over an hour to mail a package via UPS for delivery tomorrow to pretty much anywhere in the 48 states.

Give this link a look for some more info (and hopefully comfort) about their SDF facility.

http://compass.ups.com/worldport/default.aspx

There are a couple of links to videos that show their operations and how they work. Impressive stuff IMO.

Just FYI, all times are local. So, the Icheon KR flight that scaned at 9:32 AM, that was over 20 hours ago. Icheon is 14 hours ahead of CDT. It looks like a lot of iPads are not being scanned, or slow scanned in KY.

Still it interesting to wach. :D

TechDude16 Can you tell me which flight my iPad would be on going to LA from Kentucky?

Thanks!

FAILbot. You can't pre-order them for arrival tomorrow. That cutoff has long since past.

Cool! I wonder if my iPad will come to Jacksonville from Kentucky on a plane or a truck??

On my commute this morning to work (I live in central Kentucky) I got behind this butt-wad going 30mph on a single lane road with like 50 cars in a caravan behind him (making me very late for work).

Just hope if your iPad comes from a truck in KY, it isn't en route with this guy:

I know, which is why it doesn't make sense to me that those of us with Incheon scans would have sat there without moving for so long.

Of course the poster who said we were only just now en route to AK never followed up.

I just called UPS first rep said oh yes all ipads delivered on Saturday, 2nd rep said Monday after I gave him my tracking info ...

Knowing this I would have had mine picked up at a store ..

Apple YOU REALLY DROPPED THE BALL here.

Agree 100%. I wouldn't be so pissed off if I'd KNOWN delivery would be Monday. So much for Steve's attention to every little detail. Guess billionaires don't have UPS delivery delays. ;)

Wow. I now know waaaay too much about UPS operations.

NO KIDDING ! ! !!

I just looked them up in relation to their Louisville KY Hub...

Did you know: (from Wikipedia)
Worldport is the worldwide air hub for UPS (United Parcel Service) located at the Louisville International Airport in Louisville, Kentucky. Although UPS has had a hub at Louisville since 1980, the term was not used officially by the company until 2002, after a $1 billion, five-year expansion.

The facility is currently the size of 80 football fields and capable of handling 84 packages a second, or 304,000 per hour. With over 20,000 employees, UPS is one of the largest employers in Louisville, and in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Just to further......If you go to Google earth and look at that airport there are over 60 UPS planes there at one time (prol a Sunday). Amazing! - OK I have WAAaay too much time and cant WAIT for my iPad ! !

Now you know as much as I do for UPS operations!!!:):):)

you either decide to scan the packages or not to...you dont scan every 5th or 10th one or 8th etc......that would be dumb.

The problem with WorldEase and WorldShip operations is that they scan them uising large manifests vs. each single package. So sometimes the manifest does not always get scanned or the entire manifest's single packages doesnt get updated.

Basically the packages won't get individually scanned and updated until the pallets get broken down after they are in KY. So we will just have to wait and see - but trust me that Air Transit means your packages were NEVER left or dropped of in Korea :)

Someone said earlier they are not scanning anymore. Maybe it broke. Some people have the same tracking as I, but I don't show as being in KY. I'm not worried. It just think it's neat to watch.

I'm starting to think there may be an issue since it has been so long since we had an update of any kind. But I'll put my faith in Techdude's analysis...
