Sooo, after returning both the reg 15 pro and then pro max, I think the best phone this cycle is the 15 plus, this is the one I’m keeping…. Went from a 1.7k invoice (PM 512gb Apple care) down to a 1k invoice (Plus 256gb) with the switch

Benfits

Endless battery
48mp camera!
Matte glass on the back feels like a pro now!
Lighter than pm
Easier to hold than pm
Aluminum looks better than titanium this gen
screen is easier on eyes
Feels just as fast as pm
Design feels better (I got black)
Feels new due to the dynamic island

Cons

Missing telephoto (I have old 13pro still and canon r6 with real telephoto lenses)
Missing promotion (not a deal breaker)

Keep in mind I’m also keeping my original 13 pro to swap back to on the weekends

Weird generation when this might be the best choice!
Obviously YMMV, especially things like "Aluminum looks better," but I strongly disagree. Plus provides value (to the extent that one does not appreciate what the Pro Max brings at its higher price), but the Pro Max is a better phone by a lot.

You are aware that the Plus has year-old technology, right? That is quite a big deal. All those hundreds of thousands of engineering hours Apple invested since the Plus were very meaninful.

I am glad you are happy with your choice. Yippe! 😊🎊 I am glad with my iPhone 15 pro max choice. Everyone wins! Thanks to Apple 😊

To clarify price was not the driver, it was user experience. I own 6 Macs and usually 2 phones at a time. lol.

More of a PSA - for some people, not all, the 15plus IS THE BETTER PHONE. price is icing on the cake.

I Much much prefer the plus over the max for general usability and walking around in life and doing business on the go. Battery and weight and feel in hand is much better.

For me, i see zero advantage with the 17 chip vs 16 chip. Only applies to gamers I think.

I tried switching from the 13 Pro Max to the 15 Plus.

The phone is a wonderful device (light feeling, matte anti-fingerprint design, 48mp camera, 2000nit screen, etc)… I just personally couldn’t get past the lack of promotion / 60hz display.

I know for most who get the 15 Plus this won’t make a difference for them, but for me the smoothness of the 120hz display was really striking and makes using my phone feel much faster.
I had the 13 Pro and now have the 15 Plus. I'm pleasantly surprised at the weight and speed. The lack of promotion is not a deal breaker for me. I may still try the 15 PM. Not sure what I'm going to do.

Id keep the plus if lack of promotion isn’t a big deal.

Weight and battery life are big benefits.

The 15 Plus weighs 20g less than Pro Max. That's the same number of grams going from stainless steel to titanium. It also has two more hours of battery life.

Some people just have different priorities.

went from iPhone 11 to 15PM. Don’t regret it. But I admit, the 15 and 15 plus is a great value. That’s how I felt a about my iPhone 11 when I got mine.

My next phone in a few years will be a an iPhone plus model or whatever they call it then. But for now I’m enjoying my 15PM,

screen is easier on eyes

Why would the 15 Plus screen be easier on your eyes. It's effectively the same panel in terms of brightness, contrast and resolution but without the one thing that actually makes it easier on your eyes, 120Hz. Curious what you mean here.

Since you repeat "the 15plus IS THE BETTER PHONE" I will repeat my impressions of the 15 PM ownership. My experience, however, is versus the 14 Pro not versus the 15 Plus; some observations will apply to the 15+ and others may not.

1) Mostly the 15 PM feels smoother operationally. Real world the 15 PM feels faster, but I have not tested whether or not it is objectively faster.

2) I went from 14P to 15 PM and again, the 15 PM feels good in hand. It does not feel bigger/clunkier even though it provides hella more display real estate.

3) Sound is clearly superior.

4) The action button is a huge improvement in UI for me. I have it set for the camera, and it rocks. Still sucky compared to any Nikon, but much improved.

5) Photo capture is quicker and easier. I do not know how much of this is the larger display coming from a 14 or how much is due to iOS 17, but the 15 PM presents clear improvement to me. I constantly capture images for work purposes and for personal so any improvement is a big deal.

6) The display seems improved. That might just be because of my perception coming from the 14P to the larger display of the 15 PM, but I don't think it is.

7) The image captures from the 15 PM are real-world better in addition to being easier to capture.

8) Battery life of the 15 PM is clearly superior to that of the 14 P in my daily workflow. However battery of the 14 P was fine so the 15 PM is simply more fine.

9) The 15 PM presents as less hot than the 14 P does in my daily workflow. This was a surprise because I expected the 15 to behave similarly to the 14.

10) I like the look and feel of the Natural Titanium alloy exoskeleton and expect it to perform well over time like the Apple Watch Ultra Ti alloy has.

11) Facial ID seems faster and more consistent by a small bit.

There are no doubt other improvements that I simply have not noticed yet. The only negative that I have found is that the synch between the AW Ultra and the 15 PM is misbehaving a bit. Sometimes the AWU does not present an alarm going off that was set on the phone. This never happened on the 14 P, and may be an iOS 17 artifact (the 14 P never had iOS 17 installed).

I popped in to my local Apple Store and was really surprised how similar the Black Plus and Titanium Black looked.

I agree with OP, the Plus is a great offering this year.

I don't understand the easier on the eyes thing. I have come from a 12 Pro Max to a 15 Plus, and my husband has the 14 Pro Max. Are these three phones all the same on the eyes?

I’ve noticed that the iPhone pro screens are more intense on the eyes, more eye strain, than the standard plus phone. That’s my personal experience. Maybe it’s related to the promotion not sure.

Apart from ProMotion it's the exact same screen (same resolution, same brightness, same glass cover, same colors, etc.) so any perceived differences can only be caused by PM.

I know many people don't care about always on display, but for me it is the thing that has made the greatest difference since Face ID, so I need the Pro version.

My phone is on the desk next to me most of the day instead of in my pocket, so this lets me just glance at it for notification, time, weather, etc. without having to touch it or pick it up.

Sticking with 14 this time though.
Always on display is just distracting. I always disabled this feature.

I agree, the 15 Plus is a great phone. With the upgraded cameras, dynamic island the phone feels fresh. But I am thrilled with my 15 Pro Max. ProMotion is a deal breaker for me. Always on Display is awesome, I take a lot of pictures and the 15 Pro Max inspires me to take even more, the titanium looks and feels premium and with the natural titanium finish it’s a stunning phone, and the action button is a nice to have feature that I’ve unexpectedly enjoyed using.

In my opinion, you really should be comparing a 256GB 15 Plus to 256GB 15 Pro Max. For $200 you give up ProMotion, A17 Pro, always on display, 2GB of RAM, action button, 3rd camera with associated software like ProRAW, ProRes, faster autofocus w/ LiDAR, and USB-C 3.0. I realize many of those aren’t your priority, but that’s a lot of extra hardware for $200 with negligible battery life increase for the 15 Plus. If you’re truly running your phone all day down to zero, you should probably charge at least once.

In either case, congrats on the phone. The 15 and 15 Plus are nice upgrades this year no doubt!
Question - without pro motion will font look just a little fuzzy?

Not at all to me. It’s the same resolution. Maybe if you are scrolling quickly but in normal use no. I moved to a 15 Plus from a 13PM. I do notice the 60hz but really only when closing an app going to the Home Screen. After a few days you adjust but at first you definitely will notice.

okay good to know that's the only thing I am noticing it reading articles at stand still, text appear not as "crsip" as my old pro, reminds my of my difference between my 15 air and 14 pro, it MAY be my eyes!!

I completely agree. I just went from the 13Pro to the 15Plus and the lack of promotion really hasn't bothered me.

Well interestingly... my plus was getting very laggy and I was within the return window. I happened to see a Pro Max available last night and did the swap/upgrade. I don't know if I'm keeping the 15 Pro Max but two immediate impressions. The PM feels heavier than the Plus and the heat issue. It's not as bad as some YouTubers said, but it gets definitely hotter than the Plus.
