Sooo, after returning both the reg 15 pro and then pro max, I think the best phone this cycle is the 15 plus, this is the one I’m keeping…. Went from a 1.7k invoice (PM 512gb Apple care) down to a 1k invoice (Plus 256gb) with the switch

Benefits

Endless battery
48mp camera!
Matte glass on the back feels like a pro now!
Lighter than pm
Easier to hold than pm
Aluminum looks better than titanium this gen
screen is easier on eyes
Feels just as fast as pm
Design feels better (I got black)
Feels new due to the dynamic island

Cons

Missing telephoto (I have old 13pro still and canon r6 with real telephoto lenses)
Missing promotion (not a deal breaker)

Keep in mind I’m also keeping my original 13 pro to swap back to on the weekends

Weird generation when this might be the best choice!

I too had the 15 Plus and Pro Max here for evaluation. Did the same thing you did. Money was no concern. The 15 Plus just felt better, was better where it mattered to me (weight and battery life), and I didn't notice any advantage to the 120hz thing. Held the phones side by side and couldn't see any difference worth noting when scrolling while reading. Noticed no speed difference at all. Also noted that the 5x camera on the max was a nothingburger for me. I'd never use it.

Was also not a fan of the natural titanium color of the Pro Max. Super boring. Looked like my damn toaster. The black plus was fine.

Couldn’t agree more. I also chose the Plus over the Pro Max this year. Loving this phone and its weight (going case-less as always)

Can’t wait to get rid of mine, I’m finding the screen is often unresponsive for example I get a phone call and I try to answer but the phone doesn’t recognise I’m trying to accept the call, I set an alarm and when the alarm sounds I can’t turn it off as no amount of tapping the X will turn it off the only thing I can do is long press the X which then send the alarm to snooze and only then can I deactivate it. I’m thinking of a change and maybe trying the S24 Ultra when it gets released

why not just the max hardly weighs more the plus, super responsive.

Why would the 15 Plus screen be easier on your eyes. It's effectively the same panel in terms of brightness, contrast and resolution but without the one thing that actually makes it easier on your eyes, 120Hz. Curious what you mean here.
I can only speak for myself, but Promotion(or any variable refresh rate screen) gives me pretty bad motion sickness. The panel itself is fine, 120hz is even fine, it's the constantly changing frame rate that has me 🤢

I really hope if apple ever sticks Promotion on all models, they'll also include an accessibility setting to fully lock the frame rate or else I'll be forced back to android. The current option to limit frame rate only lowers the max rate to 60hz, it's still going from 1-60hz.

I agree. Its a better device than the pro as long as you can find one with a uniform screen.

who can be bothered swapping over to another phone on a weekend? weird!
sell the 13 pro and 15 plus and you'll probably have the money for the phone you really wanted, the 15 pro max

Purely for the battery life is why I went for the plus, I don’t use my phone for pictures I have an extremely expensive camera for that job and I’m not fussed about a high refresh rate, the plus is perfect except there’s to many times I can’t except calls or turn off alarms etc

following up 1.5 months later super happy with my 15 plus. For me it’s a superior experience compared to the max, and the screen also feels better on my eyes, less strain. So much lighter and easier to hold. It’s the winner.

Keeping the 13 pro as a back up phone and hardly touching it.

Money is no object for me when it comes to phones, I can afford any Apple product, this is about pure utility and experience

Tho I have the regular 15, having played around with the 15 Pro for a day, the regular 15 is the better phone for me. Smaller camera module, better battery life and a much more pocket-friendly price make it a better prospect for me than the 15 Pro.

Also, the back of the regular 15 feels and looks more premium than the 15 Pro’s. They should adopt the same frosted back glass composition into the Pro lineup next year.

No promotion kills the plus and 5x zoom is great, the Nat tit is a nice change from black which is the only colour worth getting in the plus, no regrets here.

The one real one downside to the plus is poor low light performance which I experienced last night at a night party :/

The Pro models have always had a frosted glass back.

If you don't need what 15PM has to offer extra, then 15 Plus is a great phone.
Otherwise, 15PM is superior - you can run external ssd at full speeds, has log video, has 48MP RAW files for photo, 120hz screen, 5x tele lens (helps me to take a pic of the menu and order if the sign is too far away).

Having owned both I disagree. The ProMotion display, better cameras, action button, fully powered USB-C port and overall build quality/materials warrant the extra $170 (when comparing like models without activation incentives) in my opinion.

Most people don’t need, nor care about, all those things you’re mentioning. Neither do it. That’s why I chose the Plus, and it’s not about money.

Why are you all so fixated on money aspect? It is not needed to belittle other choices to feel right about yours.
Best phone for me is 13 mini. For you is 15 Plus. The most superior in terms of model positioning from Apple and tech wise: 15 PM. So what?

It's really weird that you can halve your storage, and get rid of AppleCare, and that's no problem for you—if you never wanted those things, that was most of the price you were paying.

To each their own. Those things are not of importance to me (and the cost depends very much on each country). Also, I very much doubt that the aluminium 15s are of worse quality.

So what what? Who are “you all”?
