You do know way more about the subject then. Yeah the new telephoto is the only upgrade, it's these smaller incremental changes that add up over the years. I find it incredible that it's now possible to have a 120 mm F2.8 lens that even comes with autofocus and all that in a phone. My Pixel does 120mm as well but at F3.5. Small improvement but that's just from one year to the next.
These Sonys are great, I had one too and the only bad thing I found is that when I had to hand it off for repair I expected the 24-72 hours turn-around that I was used to from Nikon/Canon and it took them weeks due to a part being out of stock. Recently replaced that with a Pixel 7 Pro and gave in to the on-device optimizations, the ease of taking a virtually noise free photo in moonlight and being able to do that in unexpected moments where I'd never have thought of bringing a dedicated camera is great.
I guess being a professional photographer for so long I try and justify minor upgrades like that to buy a new phone but in reality, it’s still a tiny sensor with no aperture control, but I still enjoy the iPhone camera system and being able to edit the photo right there in your hand. It’s a lot of fun and sharing your photos right away without having to edit photos on a computer first and then putting them online or back onto your phone to do it from there takes a while. I do have Lightroom mobile on my phone and iPad so that makes things easier when carrying those items around all the time.
I watch Tony Northrup on YouTube quite a bit as he reviews new cameras, smart phones, and he just did a review on the Sony Xperia mark V which he said was really great, but still had weak points when compared to the iPhone camera. They both have their pros and cons. but I just haven’t been able to jump on the android platform. I’ve tried it before, but I didn’t like it because it doesn’t offer the same quality of photography apps that the iPhone does on their Google store. There are so many more apps available on iOS versus android that I use for photography. Android phones do have good cameras, but the software sometimes isn’t good for producing the best results. And I know android has been ahead of the curve and iPhone, or Apple is slow to catch up, or they create their own design to try and make it better, but it’s still years behind android, which is OK I suppose.
I really wish Apple would make an iPhone with a 48 to 60 megapixel sensor and a nice lens on one of those cameras equivalent to a 50 mm. That would be great. 24 mm is often too wide for a lot of things, and 12 megapixels really isn’t enough for me these days for the other cameras. I don’t know if I read your post earlier if you decided to upgrade to the 15 pro or pro max. Is that what you plan on doing? If so, which phone do you currently use?
