I'm not seeing a whole lot of value here in a $1200 upgrade vs a 14 Pro Max. I can see this being a big upgrade from those on 12's, maybe 13's but not a lot from 14 Pro Max.. unless the switch to USB C, minor cam upgrades (I'm guessing 98% of the population would never see the difference), and weight differences are a big deal for someone that just wants the latest. I'm usually an every year upgrade but on the fence this year whether a trade in with my 14 Pro Max and cash out of pocket makes sense with this one!
Nobody expects to see big upgrades year on year nowadays. In the UK we've moved over to 36 month contracts and that is about right to see some kind of tangible improvement in tech. Personally I'm on a 2 year upgrade cycle unless I see something I've really got to have. Upgrading every year? Meh.

As a videographer/ photographer and gamer the 15 pro max is VERY tempting even though I have the 14 pro max. The camera updates seem great and the fact that I can play console versions of Resident Evil 4 remake and RE Village on a device I can put in my pocket is insane to me. This is the main reason I want to upgrade the camera and the gaming really. But if I have to hold out for the 16 pro max, I am okay with that too.

I was wondering whether that's an iOS 17 feature or requires some hardware that's in the 15 phones. Wasn't clear to me. That feature should be purely software.
Yeah but Apple has been known - all the time - to block new features from even last-year phones.
ESPECIALLY in the camera app.

I think people are underestimating how much of an upgrade this is. The phone is going to be way lighter and more comfortable to hold. The camera (pm) is now top of the line. Im super excited about this upgrade

Yeah. This one has upgrades that matter.

Both Pro's should be the same feature wise, except physical size and battery life. My .02. Not having the same camera on both is a deal breaker for me. Next year. First time I believe Apple did this with the Pro's.

I’m not upgrading - I hate the colours.

I only upgraded my SB 13 Pro because they FINALLY dropped deep purple. I adore my 14 Pro. Don’t use a case so I can enjoy the colour. I won’t be upgrading from this one anytime soon, it’s the colour I wanted since my purple BlackBerry Pearl.

And I HATE curved sides. Flat sides forever.

I typically upgrade every 2 or 3 years, and just bought a 1TB 14 Pro last year to replace my previous phone, an 11 Pro.

While these are all improvements (duh!), and I agree especially about going back to rounded edges, none of this is gonna make me upgrade only a year later. Nothing here "crushes" my current device IMHO.

Ylou are just trying to convince yourself you don't need to upgrade. The truth is, you absolutely should upgrade and you should get in on the pre-orders before they sell out on Friday.

Next year: 16, 16+, 16 Pro, 16 Ultra.

It’s 19 grams lighter, that’s not way lighter. That’s the basically the weight of something like a Pitaka MagEZ or Latercase

To me it is. And the shape is even better. Get rid of this heavy box 14 pro max

iPhone 15 Pro crushes the 14 Pro in significant ways:
  • Lighter: Yes. It's about time.
  • Camera: Really introduces features that matter. Smart portrait mode. 120mm zoom mode. 24 mpix high-res standard photos. 48 is too big for many applications. Improved stabilization. This is a camera upgrade that matters, and it makes this new phone worth getting.
  • Action button looks really useful. One-click access to the camera? Yeah.
  • Rounded edges. So Apple listened to--or heard--the complaints about how uncomfortable these flat-edged, heavy phones are/were. About time.
There's more. But the 15 Pro is on my buy list. What were your takeaways?
You forgot "new" usb c port.

The 15 Plus is 201 grams, that’s way lighter. The 15 shape is basically lightly chamfered edge version of the 12-14.
The weight and shape are not massive changes by any stretch.

Ok to u they may not be. We shall see. I am entitled to my opinion ya?

I don’t know now. I did a little more research and now that the initial hype and excitement has worn off, I am still not sure if I am gonna pull the trigger.

Some YouTube tech channels have pointed
out that some of the camera updates on the 15 Pro could be software updates for the 14 pro and Pro Max.

Also, the phone doesn’t look much different from the 14 Pro Max.

However, I agree this is a great upgrade for those with older iPhones (11-13). I don't know.. I consider me still undecided lol.

I'm going from 12P to 15PM. The size upgrade is my most wanted thing. I never had promotion so now will have it. USB-C is better than that lightning crap glad it's gone. Dynamic Island atleast does something the notch didn't do anything. My 12P battery sucked compared to the 13 and the 14.

Yeah? Well cases make any iPhone comfortable to hold also. This is a huge upgrade!! If you are upgrading from a 12 or 12 pro, 13 & 13 pro. For the 14 pro, not much of an upgrade. I can put my 14 pro max in my BeastCage and attach my pro series 1.7x telephoto lens over the 3x camera and I’ll have a 5.5x camera. It’s clean & sharp also. The new iPhone will be approximately 10% lighter, may be noticeable, but not dramatic. Really the only main upgrade is the 5x camera. But…it’s still only 12mp. 🤦🏼‍♂️

I’ll get excited when the UW and tele get upgraded to 24mp.

This year's upgrades seems like a computational tricks sellable to Gen Z - shift the focus after the fact (i think we had this concept before with cube camera forgot the name), stack 2 photos or cut in half 48mp to get that native 24MP jpg/heic.

It is not worth to upgrade, however it is a great phone for first timers or someone with really old one. But RAW wise it will not change much anything cause doing Nomo + Lightroom we are eliminating all the computational variables.

From what has been shown I might end up going for a iPhone 15. My XR still runs fine but is old.

When I buy a new phone it is a big upgrade from previous versions. ;)
I’m with you, I’m running on a 12 pro and it’s time for me.

7+ had zoom lens. 12 pro max had 2.5x zoom.
