Spatial video was the biggest surprise for me, I had expected it a year later. I am really into VR and I am looking forward to using it. Although I hope that 3d video can be used on the oculus, I fear that apple will be apple and prevent that.

Every year at this time, the people with the current phones are in denial about the updates, because now they no longer have the latest and greatest.
The 15 has more significant updates than the last few models got at the same price.
And for those who are buying it’s always a significant and huge upgrade because they have to justify their spent money 😁

We all have to upgrade eventually. I’m glad I waited for the 15 over the 13 and 14 money better well spent.

I think everyone agrees that as a standalone phone - they are the pinnacle.

What people dislike is trade in values shaved by 140 bucks. It is holding me from upgrading - not that 140 bucks will break me, it just feels robbery to give away prev iphone for less.

So if you mentally depreciated your old phone to 0 - then these are great phones to someone who is willing to pay full price anyway.

No denying - they are great 1000/1200 phones but not great 550 upgrades.

You could also wait for the 16 and get an even better update.
USB-C, action button and titanium frame will likely be carryovers to the 16. Besides the yearly camera and processor updates what can they add that is new and not just enhancements of these current things?

This time there were no camera improvements. Yes you get 5x but you lose 3x. With the 16 you get all from now plus better cam, SOC, next gen Ray tracing etc

LOL. No.

Everyone knows when they buy their phone it will be sooner rather than later that it is no longer the latest and greatest. It's not as though Apple surprised us by deciding to make an iPhone 15 this year. Everyone with a 14 knew it would happen.

IMO, the upgrades between the 14/14+ to 15/15+ are fairly significant. Much less so for the Pro models UNLESS you do a lot of gaming, videography, etc. with your phone.

For me, the biggest complaint with iphone 14 pro max and the reason why I returned it was the weight…240 grams is too much and the added size from 11 pro max due to sharp edges was other reason to make it uncomfortable to hold on hands. Now both are finally solved after 12 pro max/13 pro max/14 pro mx sharp edges and weight increase each year…

I remember from last year all the answers of people saying “the weight is fine for me”, “I love the current weight because it give me premium feel”. It’s going to be funny to see the reaction of that people when they try 15 pro max…I’m sure of wow face , like majority of reviews are going to highlight

I think its really all about what's important to you. Not every needs/wants the latest and greatest or top of the line. I'm happy with my 14 Pro and really struggling to find a reason force myself tp upgrade.

Yeah but the other side of lightning is now all or mostly C.
I got a 10 pack of USB-A to Lightning from amazon 2 yrs ago on Black Friday on sale. Still have 2 cables unused. Need to use them up before I switch to C!
I only use C for the Nintendo Switch; didn't even realize that was USB-C.

I'm not really enthused about USB-C, either, but I'll give it a chance, obviously. Trouble is I have lightning cables galore.
Thank/blame the European Union for that. While I don’t mind the shift to USB-C, I think it was stupid for regulators to force the move. For all those extolling universal USB-C, recall that about 10 years ago the EU tried to force companies to standardize on the awful micro-USB as the standard charging port. Apple and other companies fought that off (at least temporarily) by “voluntarily” agreeing to work toward a common standard. For a while, Apple bundled adapters with its phones in the EU.

Apple is selling a Lightning to USB-C adapter. It’s a bit overpriced at $29, but I suspect we will see third party versions for less soon.

Apple isn’t really expecting many 14/14Pro users to upgrade this year. The carrier trade-in subsidies in the US are paid over 2-3 years (e.g. for T-Mobile, the $1000 iPhone 15 Pro trade-in offer is $570 for your old iPhone 14 Pro plus a statement credit of $17.92 for 24 months). I think the days of annual phone upgrades are over for most people.

The titanium is new. The usb-c is new. The colors are new. The cameras are new/upgraded. The action button is new. The processor has been upgraded. U1 has been upgraded. Modem is upgraded. Wi-Fi has been upgraded. Possibly ram has been upgraded. IPhone pros have increased repairability. Other things may be discovered during the first reviews and tear downs. And that’s just the pros. Not typing another paragraph for the standard 15’s

So you definitely misspoke

Part of the reason I got hyped initially is because I thought the 15 pro max had an entirely new camera system from the 14 pro max. In reality, it's the same camera just with some software updates and one added 5X zoom. It's great no doubt, but it's not a mind blowing leap if you already have a 14 pro max ( like myself).

It's why I am very hesitant to upgrade as I feel like after the novelty wear a off, the 15 pro will feel like the 14 pro max just with a few tweaks. Will look at reviews and real world user experiences before jumping in. Would rather wait for the 16 pro max/ ultra.

Just remember, you’re going to get the highest trade-in value right now if you wanna make the jump from one phone to another. Actually, I would say that the best time to have sold or traded in last years phone was before the live stream, but oh well.

It’s very inconvenient to sell your current iPhone before the new one is announced. My backup phone is a 6S Plus with dismal battery life on iOS10. I might keep my current 12 Pro Max for international SIM card use since 15PM no sim tray.

Yeah I never would sell or trade in a iphone before the latest one is officially announced and I know what it offers. I am an Apple fanboy but I am not hardcore lol. My days of being in the yearly upgrade crowd has long past. I upgrade every 2-3 years typically. Also, I buy phones outright and don’t deal with the hassle of upgrade programs or carrier deals that lock you in for two years etc.

But the 15 pro max is very tempting and I won’t say that 100% won’t trade my 14 pro max in for it.

might? These are iterative changes. Welcome, well-conceived, but iterative. And calling out "it now has rolled edges" like some kind of epic evolution of the form is high comedy.
The release of a new iPhone every year is an iterative process — this is objective, not one person’s subjective opinion. I think the more iterations the better — continuous refining and improving of a product is a good thing.
