SO ANNOYING!.

I wonder if I phone them... will I have better luck??
Not had any luck recieving MMS yet, but sending is still working.

Have been told when account has been activated that I will no longer get text about new MMS messages and I am still getting these, so believe it has not been changed over yet.

Yeh, I just get a text.

I phoned a very helpful lady whom said everything in her power is switched on, but there's nothing more she can do. Bit of a shame, but I am mainly hoping two things happen this summer:

a) O2 allow MMS on the iPhone

b) O2 allow tethering on the iPhone at no additional cost. Fair usage - no problem. I don't want to have to pay more if I need the net on my laptop.

1) Landscape mode switching to portrait whilst sending

2) little red !... press it

I find the wide range of experiences people have had getting MMS enabled to be quite odd. I wonder what the common denominator for success is?

I've had it going since last Friday or Saturday and it's been working flawlessly. I am an iPhone developer and all I did was modify my carrier bundle and called AT&T to say I needed MMS enabled for developmental purposes and they switched it on right away. In fact, the tech support guy that I spoke with was actually extremely excited to be able to hook it up for me.

Very strange.

I have a business account, I called 611, ask for tech support. So they gave me iPhone tech first. The person I spoke to there transfered me to AT&T tech. The lady there was very helpful, stayed on the line with me for about 20 minutes and gave me the variables to add to my updated carrier file.(the same as the one on page 3) Been working for 2 days now.

Check out www.pimpvilledeli.com for detailed instructions on how i did it.

thanks instructions worked the first time. Never had to call ATT, simply went online and changed text package from iphone to family unlimited and followed these instructions. w/i 10 minutes mms is now working great.

Ditto, sorta. I didn't need to call either. While I had my SIM in my old phone, I went to the online account management @ wireless.att.com and it had already picked up that I wasn't using my iPhone and the standard single line non-iPhone messaging plans were available to me. I just changed from my iPhone 1500 to Messaging 1500 and MMS works fine. We'll see if it sticks that way (hoping AT&T doesn't do sweeps on this).

Edit: Has anyone had issues sending/receiving to/from another carrier w/ AT&T? In-network is fine, but I can't seem to get anything from or send anything to T-Mobile people I know, but no error shows up on either end.

i have sent pics to several other carriers and i am on ATT and if has worked fine. i am not sure what network they are all on except i know 1 is verizon and he received it no problem.

screw you guys i posted those instructions a couple of times and no one f'n responds..then someone posts a link that says the same **** and everyones OH THANKS IT WORKED FOR ME..i wish the SWOD upon your iphones

Not to be rude or anything, but what was the purpose of your post? Are you trying to make people think that if they click the red ! they should hit retry & MMS would work? It doesn't. I'm not sure what your post is intended to give others.

MMS wasnt working for me after ATT provisioned it for me. I tried one today just because i was bored and it worked. I have been able to send and receive.

I have an iPhone 3G on AT&T. I put my sim card in another AT&T phone and sent an MMS after AT&T had provisioned my line. I put the sim card back into my iphone, and MMS was working.

tethering 3.0 bluetooth

I just called - got directed to Tech Support. The guy knew exactly what to do. He had me power down the phone so you could send a new configuration. Called me on my landline to confirm it worked. And voila - it did!

Also, tethering is still active - won't work over Bluetooth on my MBP but that seems to be a symptom of the Bluetooth on portables. I can tether via Bluetooth on my MacPro.

Cool!

hi for all of you, it is posible to tether bluetooth with new unibody macs
1. Turn off Bluetooth in the Bluetooth Menu Bar Icon
2. Launch the "Bluetooth Explorer" application, located in the /Developer/Applications/Utilities/Bluetooth folder
3. Turn on Bluetooth in the window that appears when Bluetooth Explorer is finished launching.
4. Click Utilities -> "Get Local Device Info" in the menu bar.
5. In the Local Bluetooth™ Device Information window, click "Simple Pairing"
6. In the Simple Paring view, select "Disabled", then click "Set"
7.You are all ready to pair over Bluetooth on your Unibody MacBook!

The truth about AT&T & MMS Messages

wow i randomly received an mms from one of my buddies..and i sent one back to test it and it worked...i didnt think it was working for me...but apparently it is..i dont know how long it will last..but yeh...it definitely just worked..

for those of you who are having trouble..i highly recommend putting your sim card in another phone..going on media net..and sending an mms..then put the sim back into your iphone and test it out..it SHOULD work assuming you have a regular (noniphone) text package

i dont know why people arent taking the above advice..it will get your mms working..just try it dudes

Not to be argumentative, but this is not even near the truth of how it works. Basically, AT&T has the following in place: If you benefit from such features like Visual Voicemail, unlimited iPhone internet (not media net, rather an iPhone package for $30) and/or any other iPhone package, you AUTOMATICALLY have your primary IMEI number on your account associated with an iPhone. This makes your account provisioned for the iPhone. By removing this provisioning, you will loose things like Visual Voicemail, etc. By keeping the provisioning, you cannot have the full MMS capabilities simply because a predefined rule of a different way of handling your MMS messages is automatically applied to your account. It's almost like they make it idiot proof. So, they check to give your account core iPhone features or not. If you get the core features, you are automatically rerouted to a different server & protocol for MMS, hence the issues we're all having.

How to get around it? I highly doubt anyone has so far. Prove me wrong & post a screenshot with a SENT MMS (no errors) on AT&T. I'm sure AT&T will make internal changes to their system come June time when 3.0 goes public. But for now, I don't think it's possible for a rep to change your account.

More on this ongoing Multi-media Messaging issue on iPhone OS 3.0 Beta is being discussed over here.

I can send MMS. But seems I cant receive MMS?

I can't receive either.

No. The purpose was two-fold. One was related to the MMS and another was something I spotted - the use of a ! next to a text informing the user that they can resend. I guess it's the wrong forum - but MMS does resend in this manner also.

We can't receive MMS and won't do until the network allow it. At the moment, if we get an MMS, the network knows you have an iPhone and sends you an SMS.

I still have the iPhone plan and visual voicemail. And I'm able to send and receive MMS. I think the catch for me is that I have a family texting plan with another line thats not an iPhone.

How did you get to receive it?

How did you get to receive it?

Just followed the instructions from ViPa and others that that I have found. Basically the same as I used when I set up SwirlyMMS when I had the jailbreak thing going on. Takes some patience, took about an hour for my phone to start sending and receiving before I switched sims back. Been working for about 5 days now.

got it to work in 35 min.

Hi everybody.
I stayed last night till 1:30 am playing with the iphones.
I got mine to work, but my wife's not.
I tried mms today from mine and it wasn't working(receiving)
I called ATT and told them the story....developer...3.0....MMs
I added the Iphone 200 messages for 5$ a line, and then I told her that I want the MMs block removed from my lines, even tough I have iphone plans and that I KNOW THAT SHE COULD HELP ME.
Next thing......MMS + TETHERING ( bluetooth+usb on unibody) WORKING JUST FINE.

I have pics with send-receive that i can post if someone is interested

I too have the $30 unlimited Family Messaging plan for my iPhone & my wife's iPhone. I just installed 3.0 Beta 2; I'm about to try sending / receiving MMS again.

Who ever has both tethering and MMS working on ATT please post your carrier update file, Thanks!

So what did you say to the AT&T person on the phone? The guy I got was an idiot and was just rambling about how the iPhone doesn't do MMS.

I called att 6 different times until I got someone to remove the MMS block. You just have to keep trying. I now got tethering and mms working. Tethering is only working via bluetooth though. But you just have to keep nagging att.

Nevermind the request for the screenshots. I've noticed that in iPhone 3.0 BETA 2 (released yesterday seeded to developers) allows you to send MMS pics with no errors.

The only bad news is that it looks like the MMS doesn't actually come through on the other end.

Clearly a part of the errors from Beta 1 was due to Apple firmware.

FYI to developers: I got bad errors & almost bricked my phone when upgrading to Beta 2 via Restore within XCODE (the latest version of Xcode).

If you get errors too, try restoring in iTunes by pointing to the downloaded IPSW file. Activation is natural after the restore, so don't be stupid & try this if your iPhone isn't listed in the Developer's Program Portal. It won't work.
