I think the author of that site updated the mobile config today for AT&T. He may have goofed something causing it not to work.

There were no complaints of it not working through last night. But today it's broken all of a sudden. Someone should email the site owner and let him know it's broken for AT&T users.

Last night I was on 3.0GM and I installed this and it worked, only it disabled my Visual Voicemail. I restored to 3.0GM again last night in order to get my VM working again and after finding a fix for VM with the tethering installed, I attempted to download this again. After downloading the second time on 3.0GM I had no luck getting tethering to work. I tried again today and still nothing. I think the person that runs the site messed something up in his/her settings. I haven't seen anyone say that they just downloaded this today and it works.

what do i do?

P.S Great think I still have NetShare

I had that problem, but with O2, it stopped working and didn't enable tethering or set up tethering it just vanished.

I found restarting the phone, installing that profile, worked, also make sure you remove your sim card when resetting.

I've been doing some reading that states that prematurely enabling tethering breaks visual voicemail. If that's the case, I'll wait.

Changes to mobileconfig file

Comparing the source from this post to new source I just got, I can see some differences.

Earlier post:
"<dict>
<key>apn</key>
<string>wap.cingular</string>
<key>type-mask</key>
<integer>-2</integer>
<key>password</key>
<data>Q0lOR1VMQVIx</data>
<key>username</key>
<string>WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM</string>
</dict>"

Current file:
"<dict>
<key>apn</key>
<string>wap.cingular</string>
<key>username</key>
<string></string>
</dict>
<dict>
<key>apn</key>
<string>acds.voicemail</string>
<key>username</key>
<string></string>
</dict>"

I'm having no luck applying this current file to the leaked 3.0GM.
I do not see the tethering option and only have the profile listed.

Looks like the current file is still a work in progress.
Thoughts?

xray?

what steps did you take to get the tethering to work?

I did it last night (using the leaked 3.0 GM firmware), but bother to try it until this morning since I only get Edge service where I live (I'm right on a 3G fringe area, but get full 3G once I get into town).

Apparently there are various reports of the hack no longer working for some reason...

Edit - Just noticed that my visual voicemail is disabled as well. I might just leave it though, since the tethering for now is more useful. Hmmm.... tough decision. I hope AT&T comes up with a tethering plan soon.

I think you're right cuz I just looked at the contents of the file and it differs from the one posted on the first page

Yep, they are different. It has nothing to do with today's release (which IS NO DIFFERENT) than 3.0gm.

I noticed thismorning that the website was updated with a profile which kept visual voicemail working. My VVM never stopped working, but I tried this new one anyway. It made tethering options go away. I compared the files and the new one doesn't have a username/password. I went back to the old version that I saved, uploaded it to a webserver and redownloaded onto the phone. Tethering instantly came back.

I tried creating a new file based off the old listing of info and got that profile installed. I see Setup Tethering now but when I click on it, it says Contact AT&T. Is there any way I could get your file to see if it works for me?

I don't know if I am comfortable tethering, let alone distributing this, especially since it's on Apple's servers (MobileMe).

I suggest someone email the author of that site to let him know and maybe he'll update it.

Try Booting

I copied the source from the early post and emailed it as an attachment to my phone (make sure name is the same: us_att.mobileconfig). Opening the attachment installed the profile but I got the same error initially.

A hard boot did the trick for me ;)

Good luck,
Token

ok i installed the profile. i never got a tethering option under network. I restarted. no help. removed profile, reinstalled. no luck. I have 3G with 3.0, what's up?

Restore Visual VoiceMail

Restore Visual VoiceMail to iPhones with the AT&T tether hack -

Type into the phone keypad *5005*86*{yournumber}# where {yournumber} is your 7 digit cellphone number. Don't forget the pound sign (#) at the end of the string. Then hit Call. It'll flash for a second, then Visual VoiceMail should be restored.

I can confirm this worked for me.

Ok, I got it working. It's a bit of hack merging info from files so let me clean it up a bit. The good news is it's still possible.

Try this...

Restart iPhone, reset network settings for cellular data
Reboot, now install settings from website with all tethering settings.
Shut down, remove SIM card, start up, do any passcode lock, replace SIM

See if tethering comes up, mine dissapeared, couldn't see anything to do with tethering, after a couple restarts and installs it came back, stayed since.

Does make me wish they would have waited until the actual release before uncovering that site.

They essentially gave Apple/At&t to change things to block it. If they had waited, it is likely it would have had to wait for a patch/update that people would have been able to avoid if they so chose. Not blaming anyone, but it is unfortunate as I wanted to play with it... and even though I am morally torn on such things, I pay AT&T a lot of money, so I would not feel bad about occasionally using tethering in an emergency situation. It will never be worth $20,$30,$40,$50 more a month to me.

Has anyone who had 3.0 installed tried to put the GM back over it, and see if tethering shows up then?
