Since 1978. TRS-80 model 1. I designed microprocessors for AMD and Sun for 10 years. What's your point? I said NEWBs aren't going to get it. As evidenced by the fact that people on this board are already confused about what button does what.

well I just dont get it...its very clear to me. My point is that its pretty standard stuff. When you select "SAVE" on any computer you are saving on top of the file. In other words, your original file is now gone. Been that way for along time. The new button is labeled "Save a copy"...what else could this possible mean, but it saves a copy (which you just modified)?
pretty simple stuff imo.

Most of them any ways what do u have to do to learn to be what you were im looking to be in a computer related position wether it might be jdk's sdk's... learning c++ or C# or objectiive c

Raise your hand if reading this made your remember that you need to add your 3GS's UDID :p

Thanks
I did The update without updating the UDID- howere it did not cause a problem for me... I did an update and restore under 3.0 to my new phone and that installs the provisioning files onto the device by default. I may need to re-do it when I go to test my apps though (have not checked yet).

OK, anyone who has used MS Word should know, otherwise, it may be a bit confusing, hey isn't this why we have forums?:)

And who said Apple doesn't move quick when it comes to making corrections? I would think given that they've already seeded this to developers we should see it in the next few weeks? :D

are you kidding??? thats pretty basic stuff. How long have you been using a computer?

Please don't be rude. I agree with this user. It is confusing, and I have been using a computer for 25 years now, religiously. People will press "Save" and have no way to undo the "Save" if they want their original back. "Replace Original Video" and "Save As Trimmed Copy" should be the options. Of course you can shorten it maybe to "Save As Original" and "Save As Trimmed Copy".

This is exactly how any "Save" and "Save as" option in a computer works!

I can confirm that you can now use voice control via a bluetooth headset. I just got it to work with my jawbone headset. :)

So you are saying that you can do voice activated dialing through your bluetooth headset, as opposed to having to speak directly into the phone?

I have a Ph.D. in electrical engineering, but most people at the three companies where I worked had B.S.'s in electrical engineering. Some schools offer computer engineering degrees, but I recommend avoiding them; they tend to not teach the "hard" stuff there (electromagnetics, microwave engineering, analog circuits, etc.) and if you know that stuff you'll go farther.

I'd hardly advance Microsoft Word (or any Microsoft product) as a paradigm for effective user interface design. And using a phone shouldn't be like using a computer.

Yes, I was able to perform voice activated dialing via my jawbone bluetooth headset. This is a very convenient feature to have.

A "Copy" of something means an exact duplicate of something. It's not worded correctly.

It's a shame that some people here are so quick to jump on people about, what they consider to be, stupid questions.

No. That would be illegal. And it wouldn't work. Even after you installed the OS, you couldn't activate it. Pay the $99 like the rest of us developers. Or wait till the final version of 3.1 ships.

Isn't discussing the features of 3.1 a violation of the Non-Disclosure Agreement developers sign with Apple to be able to get beta releases? ;)

I had that issue with 3.0 betas but it's been fine since 3.0 GM.

I had this issue with a 3GS right out of the box and had to do a restore to fix, and I still get the grey icon from time to time, but a restart seems to fix...still it is very annoying...

its not just Word, save means save. Unless you protect the original you are saving on top of it. The "save" command works like this universally (even on your c1978 TRS)

BTW- The iphone is a computer.

It doesn't say "Save As" though! It says "Save a Copy". It is confusing.
I am an IT major and work on computers for a living, and I have to agree.

"Save a Copy" is an asinine way to word it if it saves a new copy of the video trimmed.

Heck, one could easily think that Save a Copy saves a copy of the original, UN-trimmed.

LOL...

Agreed. Maybe "Replace File" and "Save as New File" or something.

Actually - the better thing to do would be to always just internally save as the full file plus a hidden file that contains the start and end points. Then, when "sending," you could be asked to send the original or the edited version.

I also think that the wording is very confusing and I am a software engineering major (just incase someone decides to ask me how many years I've been using computers).

Anyways, I think the buttons would have been better expressed using words such as Overwrite and/or Save as.
