iPhone 3.1 beta available to developers

its not just Word, save means save. Unless you protect the original you are saving on top of it. The "save" command works like this universally (even on your c1978 TRS)

BTW- The iphone is a computer.

TRS-80 didn't have menus.

And the iPhone is a computer, but its user interface is most assuredly different than any other computer. It is more like an appliance and less like a computer. As it should be. If you want windows-style menus, go use a WM device.

Need to file a bug for this but I've had multiple times where I have my headphones in watching a video @ night, stop it, hit done and quit the app, then when I remove the headphones from the jack the iPod app starts playing some song through the speaker phone. Great when your wife wakes up from it. Anyone else have this happen?

Well i dont know why some of you are in such a hurry just because there is a new beta available two weeks after the new 3.0 disaster after moths of working on it.

Just to let you know, if you ever have any thoughts of unlocking your 3G or 3GS, the new beta at this point changes the baseband and your phone will be locked up for good to AT&T. For resale value it is always worth more if you are able to unlock or they are unlocked.

If you wont ever jailbreak or unlock then great, but you people should actually read something before you go ahead and install stuff.

This is a pre-3.0 bug. I've had this happen to me in iphone os 2.0+ also.

Did they add the battery percentage display for devices (iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G) other than the 3GS? At the moment it can be only activated on a 3GS (under the settings/usage menu).

3.1 beta did not address any of the UI issues. Way to go Apple! Woo! Also, my iPhone 3G feels slower now. Messages takes about 3 seconds to open.

when entering email accts iphone recognizes google sync and the fact that it doesnt get email so it cant be turned on or off like before if that matters to anyone

I can confirm that you can now use voice control via a bluetooth headset. I just got it to work with my jawbone headset.

That'll be awesome if they don't decide to drop that at the last minute. I just submitted a feedback message about that a couple days ago, too.

Energy Saver

I really want to see Apple implement similar Energy Saver prefs that they do for OS X. Allowing me to control what is ON and what is OFF - ensuring the best power management possible.

No. That would be illegal. And it wouldn't work. Even after you installed the OS, you couldn't activate it. Pay the $99 like the rest of us developers. Or wait till the final version of 3.1 ships.

What makes you think it can't be activated by anyone who downloads it by searching for a torrent of the build #?

two things i'm looking for:

1. have option to turn off landscape keyboard - i am used to portrait keyboard, and sometimes the landscape keyboard gets in the way, like you lay on your side to send an email or text and automatically switches to landscape

2. enable voice control for 2G and 3G, maybe even have a price of $5-$10, it seems so literal.

Force Quit

Has anyone else noticed the force quit feature taking a long time? When i force quit safari it appears to freeze on the slide to power off screen, but eventually quits safari.
