Interesting. I'll give Mobistar in Leuven a shout and see what they have to say but I don't know if they will be happy to sell me a device (assuming they have 32GB White version spare - if so then I expect I will also see Satan skating to work) since I do not want a contract with Mobistar. In fairness, I'd be happy to sign a contract with them if they their data rates weren't so much worse than Proximus (EUR 0.10 per MB for Mobistar compared to EUR 0.03 per MB for Proximus) but I doubt that will help much.

I just added a fixed-rate 2GB data pack to my Proximus account - I prefer to pay a fixed price and forget about worrying on usage (as long as I don't blow the 2GB of course :D)

I think Proximus has better 3G coverage though...

I just had an update from hand tec.

its looking good.

i was looking into buying from australia and saw that someone is selling a 16GB for about 405 euro on ebay. I contacted him and he said that shipping would be 27 euro and insurance 9 euro (converted from au dollars).
I used the website dutycalculator.com and it said that it would be about 90 duty. That would give me a grand total of around 530 euro.
Does that seem like a good deal? I asked about if there were any problems would the iPhone have to be returned to Australia, he said that as they are buying directly from Apple, a local apple store would be able to take it. Is that true?
It's around 520 euro for a locked 16GB iphone in Ireland so am very tempted by this offer! hhmm.....

The 1 year warranty only covers you from the country you got the product from. but if you had applecare, your covered worldwide. but you will need the apple recite.

i was thinking of getting applecare (just from reading here and some of the problems people have encountered), so if anything went wrong i'd be covered and wouldn't have to ship it to australia?

Hopefully we will all get our iphones by the end of this week or I shall be asking Mark about my £30 discount!!

Oh, how I wish we had reasonable call plans in Belgium. Having the device unlocked is nice but you still need to be tied to a contract in order to get data on the device, the plans kinda suck across the board, and the device itself is well expensive. Aside from being able to decide which network I want to put the phone on to begin with I can't see the benefits.

Hmm, I seem to be unable to get anyone to answer the phone. However, I am reading on the belgium-iphone.com forum thread that Mobistar outlets in southern Belgium have NOT received 3GS models today with their inventory deliveries. Apparently there is another delivery scheduled for Friday. This might not apply to all Mobistar outlets in Belgium but it isn't promising news.

Actually even AppleCare doesn't give you the worldwide warranty with iPhone. Read the prints :) It says something like "some items may be excluded from the worldwide warranty"

Ah, but Apple is based in Ireland... it will need to be check but i'm sure it should be coverd.

I think i'll ring Apple tomorrow and find out. Just wondering would people on this forum think this would be a good idea and go for it?? Am a little apprehensive.....

Maybe if you sent in your girlfriend wearing a short skirt and a wink then the guy at the apple store may just grant the warranty lol

Assuming she isn't a gorilla or something... Besides, in these days of equality, you may have to cock a nod and a wink at the service guy yourself.

Hey,

I'm new to the forum and have been reading through this thread as best I can. I really want one of the new iPhone 3GS's but REALLY don't to get on on O2 here in the UK. It was mentioned early in the thread that the prices were...

Those are bundled phones which come with some extras, otherwise prices are 569 32 giga and 499 16 giga

... in Italy. I have not managed to see them for this price. The cheapest I could find was €599 from the Apple online store. Does anyone know if you can get them cheaper.

Also I've seen them for €575 on the Mobistar website in Belgium. Anyone found anywhere in Europe that sells them unlocked for cheaper?

well seeing as i'm female and i don't think my boyfriend would be up for using his charming ways to get the warranty, don't think we'll be getting it anytime soon!

I read on another forum where someone was in contact with Apple Ireland and was told that the iphone's warranty and applecare is limited to the country where it is bought so.....back to the drawing board.....

Regardless of other forums say, i don't think applecare for the iphone is worth the money except if you are planning to keep the phone for 2-3 years. And even then, i am not sure it is worth it. These phones are pretty robust if they were not faulty from the start. The only real risk is accidental damage, which applecare don't cover.

If you know, please tell us ;) I am not sure if you can find an offer cheaper than Belgium in Europe. but the cheapest you can get unlocked globally is from Australia, New Zealand, and Hong Kong...I think (excluding shipping and VAT).

I've not done my sums exactly, but I reckon with the exchange rate and postage, Oz is cheaper, but longer to post and more expensive to post back if a warranty claim is in order.

I have asked my ozzy ex if she'll get me one and send it over, but me thinks a serious amout of grovelling would be in order, and I don't do that! Anyway it would be a pain if I really did need to return it for warranty!!

What I think is really cheeky is Apple refusing warranty claims if you are not taking the fone back in the same country it was bought - I'm sure thats not right and breaking some comsumer law ... but hey!

I'd say just buy one from Italy or Belgium and if it blows up or dies, take your other half on a nice weekend away and take it back!
