Hi folks,

I've experiences the following problems since installing iOS 11.

1. Volume buttons (and in turn, ear bud and car controls) won't work unless the phone is unlocked and the media program is open

2. Media controls don't display on the lock screen or in control center.

3. It doesn't "notify me" of things. When I get a text or program notification, my phone refuses to make a sound, vibrate, or even turn on the screen. I have to turn the lock screen on to see if I've received and texts and sometimes they won't show there either, I have to unlock it and go to messages.

4. Usually once a day, when I'm using it, it will just stop responding (can't close the app, turn the screen off, or even power it down) for 2-4 minutes before eventually coming out of its stall.

5. Some apps just decide they don't want to work anymore, period. I had a couple of new message on a dating app that refused to show up even after a reboot and only appeared after I reinstalled the app.

I've tried a backup and restore and it didn't seem to make a dent. This has been one of the most stable-mable, harmonious phone's I've owned over the last year, and now it's a daily exercise in frustration and sadness.

What are my options?

Have you tried installing as new?
Are you using the latest update 11.0.3?

7+: Updated OTA okay. So far I am seeing less freeze issues. Battery unknown. Will update after a couple of days.
IPP 12 g2: Updated almost okay. After update the orientation was stuck in portrait. After reboot it works okay. One immediate note; the "snap into place" of the icons on screen swipes has returned. Battery unknown. Will update with the 7+.

Have noticed some apps are behaving wonky. Polymail updating haphazardly. Video apps need a relaunch to play correctly. Will see what happens.

Installing .3 now. I haven't tried a fresh install. It sounds daunting after having a year's worth of files, but I might have to try. Think it has a decent chance of success?

Same here buddy I was having horrible issues and I got tired of the **** show that was iOS I just switched to the note 8 and have been in love

Here too—just came to post the same exact thing. Iphone 7 same problems. The most frustrating is your #4 when it just locks up for no reason for a good minute or so. Happens about once every hour or two. IOS 11 wasnt even this unstable for me with the beta since the third release I think. With their garbage new phones and now this, I’m Really losing a lot of faith im apple lately.

Yes iOS 10 blows iOS 11 out of the water in performance.

You in the iOS 9 forum

DO NOT UPGRADE!If you are on iOS 7 there will be a huge slowdown in performance

So, upgrading to 9 from 7 will be a huge slowdown. Yet....

Apple's QC has horribly nosedived since 8.4.1 .Or maybe they just dont give 2 ***** about older phones

You in iOS 10 forum

iPhone 6 is crippled (Not exaggerating, many others have this problem.

Contradicting yourself. iPhone 6 is both crippled but without a performance decline.

Performance declined from ios 6 to iOS 7 and from iOS 7 to iOS 8.Performance heavily declined from iOS 8 to iOS 9.Now performance DIDNT decline from iOS 9 to iOS 10

You contradict yourself so often that it just becomes meaningless. Every new version is the devil, every last version was perfect... until the new version comes along, then it crippled everything, planned obsolescence etc. etc. It just ends up becoming white noise.

7+ on iOS 11.0.3 o_O

So far the freezing appears less.
The click on an app and it may take up to 10 seconds to open
Animations appear to be a bit quicker
Still having app/SB crash issues

Update: New issue - on a call and play on speaker. Getting a crackling / white noise type sound playing in the background. Not only can I hear it on the speaker, some listeners can also hear it.

Update 2: New issue - without asking, phone is linking to BT speakers and headphones (previously linked). Had it happen in the middle of a call while on speaker (2x - B&O H3) and while watching a YouTube vid (BT speaker). Totally shut down headphones and speaker.

grrr......

Check to see if you have any lingering 32bit apps installed (Settings > General > About > Apps)

There was a message in late ios 10 updates saying that 32bit app support will be going away in future updates (IE iOS 11) and could effect performance.

Just having them installed alone could potentially mess things up. (Not saying it will or does, but rather I’m saying could and is something to look at when troubleshooting)

I normally hate threads like this, but I've been on the road for weeks (and will be traveling for several more) and haven't been able to keep up here as much as usual.

Do people here recommend installing 11.0.3 on an iPhone 7? Any big issues still? Is the home-button lag a major issue? (There's a 33-page thread that I don't have time to read.)

Thanks very much.

I’ve had absolutely no issues with it but I’d still probably wait until you’re somewhere with reliable IT on hand

You won't really know what it would be like for you until you basically experience it for yourself. Not everyone by far has the same type of issues or even really much in the way of being all that consequential. But, the variety of issues that some come across are laid out in various threads here, so they can give you an idea of what you might potentially come across--whether you would come across most or some or just a bit of it all and/or how that will affect your device and your experience, that's a somewhat different question that would be difficult to answer without actually going through with all basically.

iOS 11.1 most likely releases in two weeks, and I'd recommend waiting for that. People's experiences have been all over the place with iOS 11, and performance has certainly improved in iOS 11.1 beta for my 7.

NO I do NOT recommend going anywhere near that "virus" aka iOS 11 if you value your phones performance! The iPhone 7 was WAS my favorite phone until I installed that virus iOS 11 on it. Now it seems like cheap junk!

Despite what some may say, this was intentionally down by Apple. They really don't care about individual customers but ONLY the bottom line. They know that for every one of us who leaves out of disgust there are enough who will simply grab their ankles and take it PLUS pay MORE for it! They will still make the only thing they care about which is MONEY.

If the lag and battery performance issues are not resolved with the next update I am going to sell this and move on. Life is too short to let a corporation that doesn't care about you give you grief while you hope and wait to see if they will fix what they deliberately broke. This is very disappointing in Apple as a company and speaks volumes. IMHU

Shock horror. A company that wants to make money. What exactly were you expecting them to do?

My 7+ doesn't seem to be suffering any of the issues discussed on here and is still fulfilling its role as a phone and diary keeper.

Translation: mine works, screw you guys.

It sucks Apple can't create a consistent user experience. It is random even though they control both the hardware and software. Most annoying part is they don't want to figure out the problems by collecting data, instead tell you to restore as new.

Translation is actually: I'm not an Apple expert so I haven't got a clue what you guys are doing to yours to result in the experience you're having.

When my company is worth a few billion, I'll feel I can tell Apple their business model is wrong.

I have the same freezing issue the user posted the video of on his 7, only mine is with the iPad Pro 12.9 v2. It started freezing somewhere in beta of iOS11 and has never gone away, I tried fresh re-install etc., same problem. I am now on 11.1 and the freezing still occurs for those wondering. I don't have any problems on my iPhone 8 Plus. Must be something in the configuration profile or OS core, it's highly annoying at minimum.

This is a horrible update for the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus in all aspects. Battery drain, stuttering, input lag. Its up there with iOS 9 as some of the most worst operating systems I have ever used and thats coming from someone who used Windows Vista.

Interesting how there are those with those phones that are not really having significant issues and their experience is basically just fine (as far as it typically goes for x.0 releases essentially).

So you get up to 1 year of good performance with Apple devices nowadays? Suddenly the high premium prices don’t seem so justified do they?

With iOS 11 they’re training me to be very wary and cautious about iOS upgrades. I’m going to recommend people hold off upgrading early (if at all) from now on.

Just dont look at the new OS as that will entice you into upgrading. Keep it on the last version of the OS the device shipped with. I am enjoying my iPad Pro 12.9 2017 on iOS 10 despite the lure of the iPad specific features of iOS 11 and I will keep it on iOS 10 for 3 years which is the lifetime of the device. Either that or buy a new device every year if you simply must have the latest OS. iOS updates just arent optimised for older devices.
