I can’t tell you how much I’m loving the iPhone 8 in Gold. I came from a Jet Black 7+ and the smaller size is perfect and the color has grown on me so much. Probably my favorite color ever from Apple. So happy with it. It’s just stunning.

IP6 owner here, I was eagerly awaiting to part money for an upgrade. The X looks underwhelming as I was after a screen of the size of the Plus, and the 'current' Plus has 3 major flaws, no matter how we sugar coat it:

1) Too heavy
2) Enormous top and bottom bezel
3) Too expensive for what it is

Given that I keep my phones for 3-4 years I will skip and see what happens next year, hopefully the 'X Plus'.

Money is absolutely not an issue, I just decided to say 'no'.

Reading the minds
"Its ok man, you don't need the X"
"This looks fine....i mean...look...isnt it...good"
"I don't need the X, who needs the X, X is for losers, only rich brats want it....i wish i was rich"
"Who needs the X, I am fine with the 4 year old classic design....i hate the notch...damn the X, damn it"
"he he he Whats X he he he"
"wish I got the X, ill just type i love this 8, i mean its good right...right.....i need a drink"

Right. Not everyone wants the X, you know.

Too heavy? That’s one of the top 3 critiques? Come on, man.

I’m hoping to pick up an 8+ in my local Apple store soon. I’m coming from a 6s and the reasons for choosing the 8+ over the X are as follows:

1. Screen ratio when in horizontal mode. I like the size of the + screens for watching video content. The X will either have a notch at one end, or the video width will be squeezed in. A long thin video doesn’t look as appealing to me. I think the X is pretty much the same screen size as the Samsung G8 (bar the notch) and when you compare that screen to the + I prefer the +
2. TouchID - I think I’d prefer this over FaceID. I also think TouchID will return in the future. Apple will spin this in such a way, saying that there are multiple biometric securities and maybe even make users combine touch and face for extra secure reasons (high net worth banking transactions/voting etc). So I wouldn’t want to buy an X and see TouchID come back in a year or so time.

Obviously I wish everyone well in enjoying the iPhone of their choice

Picked up a SG 8+ this evening. Was coming from a 4.7 6S. This is my first Plus sized phone and I am still getting used to the size but I’m digging it so far, media is so much better on the larger screen. Still figuring out how to hold and type with the larger size and all that.

Speed wise it does seem very fast but my 6S was not slow. The solid home button takes some getting used to compared to the real button from the 6S but I am getting there. The dual speakers are pretty cool. Gotta try the camera soon.

While I would have liked a new form factor so that it feels fresh, I do think the 8 is the cleanest and best looking of the 6-7-8 family. The rear glass and basically no antenna lines give it a really clean look. Bezels don’t bother me since it gives me something to hold onto when using the phone. Overall a pretty solid upgrade from my 6S.

I found a good deal on a Red 7+ that’s supposed to arrive on Monday. Not sure which I will keep yet but I have 14 days to try out the 8+.

Got a silver 8+ today. I’m one of those guys who has had all the iPhones and always orders the new one.

The good news is that the display is the best yet on an iPhone. I was one of those who got a couple of phones with screen blemishes when the 6S launched, so getting a perfect display the first time is a big deal for me. Apple has made huge strides with avoiding display defects after they started calibrating each panel.

Coming from the Jet Black 7+ I have to say the build quality is a let down. The seams where the glass meets the metal are really noticeable. There is also a tiny bit of flex and a hollow feel to the phone. The jet black feels like a solid piece of metal, the new 8+ feels somewhat less premium.

It’s likely I will return the 8+ and wait to see the X or just stick with my beautiful jet black 7+.

I’m going to share my experience and you have to take my words for it... :D

I freaking saved €1500 to purchase the the iPhone X on Sept 12, but I got angry after I realized that it was delayed to November. I convinced my self to stick with my iPhone 7 until November, but it all changed after yesterday.
I just bought the iPhone 8 Space grey and daaaaaauuuuuummmm... this thing is heavy and feels premium as %#]!*...
Beautiful true-tone display, very clear speakers and the low-light picture quality is of the charts...killing it!!!

For those that cannot wait for the delayed iPhone X, trust me, you will love the final and most perfected iteration of the iPhone 8. Better save your money for the iPhone X2 folks, because OLED iPhones will be cheaper that ever next year...

Good luck to all!

Is the rear camera lens slightly above the beveled plastic piece as I have seen in videos? Wondering if this will be an eventual issue for those going caseless. Could maybe get scratched. I dunno, just thinking out loud.
I’ve had my 7 caseless for a year with that same exposed rear lens. I’m fairly careful with my phone, but not obsessive. I don’t tend to drop it, but I do regularly put it down on hard surfaces. I also live blocks from the beach, so sand and such is a fact of life.

No issues whatsoever. No scratches, nothing. That camera lens is nicely durable.

Coming from the regular 6 the upgrade to the 8+ feels like a big one to me so I’m happy with it, Loving the glass back again and the wireless charging is handy, I wanted to skip the X because I’m not a fan of the design I got it through the IUP so I’ll see what they release next year and might upgrade after the 12 months.

I really love it. The speed is much better than the 6s I was coming from and the increase in screen size (I went to the Plus) is spectacular. I haven't tried wireless charging but I bet it'll be a frequently used feature in the next year or two. Really loving it so far for consuming media and reading.

Wow this phone is crazy fast. Coming from 6s+. Blows away the wife’s 7+ in speed. Touchid is even faster than the 7. I’d love to see head to head unlock speed testing between the X and 8. Betting on the 8...

iPhone 8 plus SG, first impression: feels great in the hand. Big improvement over previous models in terms of grip. Looks more exclusive and feels more exclusive. True tone feels more relaxing for the eyes, more natural. Sound is definitely better then previous model, iPhone 7. When playing music a bit on the loud side it doesn’t sound too sharp.

I’m using a Spigen Thin Fit for the 7 Plus. It’s snug but fits the 8 Plus nicely. I hope it’s not going to affect the glass because it’s my favourite case!

I also had the freeze incident when I was setting up initially and the new reboot method worked.

Apart from the above hiccup I’m happy so far with my decision to avoid the X until the sequel.

Here are my thoughts about the iPhone 8 Plus, Space Grey

Design
Sure, this is a 4 year-old design. But I have to say it, I love it. I didn't like the iPhone 6 when it was announced because of its back. The antenna bands and the misplaced camera / corner radius made the phone look weird. Apple has had 4 years to refine this design and it shows. The glass back brings back those vibes from the 4 and 4s, while retaining the rounded look (to which I prefer) of the 6/7 lineup. I bought the Plus. However, this phone is so well designed that, for the first time in my life, I would not mind to buy the white iPhone 8 despite the white front, solely because of its back. I love the white back / black Apple logo combo.

Battery Life
Coming from a 6s, I have to say battery life feels great. Granted, I got lucky with my unit (Coconut Battery shows an extra 100 mAh than the supposed factory capacity. Still, the phone lasts 10 hours, easily, even doing some medium to heavy use. I downloaded my music library, made a 1h05m and a 43 minute facebook video call, 30 minutes worth of audio calls, plus normal use (mostly social media and apple music) for the rest of the day (from 11 A.M. to 9 P.M.). The phone started at 93% and ended up at 18%.

If you own an iPad, you don't need to buy a new cable for fast charging. It took one hour for the phone to go from 18% to 83%, WHILE indexing the photo library and analysing faces. I used a 12W iPad connector last night. Today I may report how fast it charging with no background tasks.

Performance
Performance is great. However, the newness of iOS 11 and the lack of Pro Motion display shows. With future updates, iOS will become smoother, but I feel that a phone this size should have Pro Motion. 120Hz really shows its difference in larger sizes. I didn't notice a reduced frame rate in my iPhone 6s and iPhone SE in both iOS 10 and iOS 11, when compared to my iPad Pro side-by-side. In contrast, the reduced frame rate is apparent when comparing the 1st generation and 2nd generation iPad Pro even when not next to each other. The 5.5 inch screen is big enough to tell the difference between a 60Hz and 120Hz display.
Apps seem to hang out mid animation for a couple of nanoseconds. If you don't own an iPad Pro, you will not notice this (confirmed with people that don't own one).

Cameras
The cameras on the Plus are absolutely fantastic. The most noticeable update from my 6s. Not much to say about this.

I bought the 8+ over the X as it seemed like a better value and I personally hated the new design when the leak came out and so far so good! The phone doesn't feel large to me at all, which is quite reassuring coming from a 6.

I was also surprised at how sexy the glass back looks (even though that was one of the off putting things about the 8 for me) It sorta reminds me of my good ol 4S.

Though I'm still salty about the lack of a headphone jack, I better stock up on some dongles.

Got my iPhone 8 yesterday.

I previously had an iPhone SE. This is a huge improvement, although I was very happy with me SE. And the two phones can't really be compared in my opinions, since they are just different phones - and appeal to different users.

It's very fast, got a good grip and great screen.

Battery seems to be fine. That and the size was my two main reasons for buying the SE when it came out.. Just had to realise that over time a bigger screen is preferable. And for now, like I said before, the battery seems fine.

The iPhone X looks promising but I'm not gonna spend that much money on a phone...and yes the design is old - but it works fine for me!

Very happy with my iPhone 8 :)

Anyone having trouble with their iCloud Photo Library not downloading to their new 8? The setting is enabled, I toggled on and off, doesn't appear to be downloading anything. Only thing missing so far from a seamless upgrade from my 6S.

A reboot fixed this for me. Photos synced right away afterwards.
