Question for those who came from iphone 7/7plus to 8 or 8 plus, the speakers are really improved?

I *upgraded* from a 7 Plus to an iPhone 8.

I must say, the iPhone 8 feels amazing!
The weight and glass back makes it feel that bit more premium, and well built.

I love the size, and for me, it is just right, as I found the Plus models to be a bit too large and cumbersome to use.

TrueTone is superb, and I find it a lot more pleasant on my eyes with less strain.
The constant cool blue is searing.

The speed of the A11 chip is crazy too. It's lightning fast, and manages everything I've done so far with absolute ease.

Haven't tried out the camera yet, but will take some shots a bit later today.

I also have a new wireless charger arriving today so I can see how convenient this will be.

Overall, I'm very satisfied and think it's well worth the cash.

Same thing I did. I’m very happy going from Jet Black 7+ to Gold 8. Love the color too.

Have owned every iPhone from the 1st to the 7th in whatever the smaller size Apple has. I figured since I"m going XS next year, I'd like to do 12 months of a Plus sized model cause big phones need love too.

[*]I don't feel like the larger screen allows for more stuff. It just seems like every UI element is larger versus there being room for more things. It's not like when I get a new 5K display and I have room for more menu bar items. This just makes all the current items larger which is a surprise and disappointment

Isn’t there a setting that alters the size of icons etc? Is it zoomed or not by default?

Nice camera. Silver glass back looks clean. Don’t notice any speed increase whatsoever. The experience is let down by iOS 11 which is a sh*t show in terms of UI glitches and performance issues despite having the fastest chip in a mobile device ever. Software is more important than a pointless Geekbench score which are just numbers. If the software makes the device lag then numbers just don’t matter.

Hold power button and down volume button together.:)
This is no longer correct for the 8.

Correct sequence:

Quickly press UP VOLUME button
Quickly press DOWN VOLUME button
Hold SIDE button

I needed to reset my 8 when the screen was unresponsive (so far it's only happened once) and had to call Apple Support and learned this has changed for the 8.

Picked up the 8+ today, my use tends to be camera, browsing and games in that order, so the big screen and dual camera was a must. For the extra £ and extra wait I didn't think the X was worth it for me.

Coming from a 6-standard the camera is jaw dropping, its insane. Reason camera is the big deal is two small kids, and just fooling around while it restored my Icloud backup I took some of the best photos of them that I've ever seen, those photos will be around long after the phone is dead, so totally worthwhile upgrade for me.

Will take a little while to get used to the plus size, but its a change rather than an inconvenience so far.

Gruber has been wrong before... I think if Apple can figure how to make it work with the OLED display they will in fact bring it back. Why because the competition is going to force them too with Samsung and others not only offering Face ID, Iris Scanning and Touch... Apple just having Face ID will keep them behind the curve. It is also going to depend on how well it works and the feedback they get in the next several months too. It seems pretty clear they wanted to include Touch ID, but just couldn't make it work.

This was in conversation with an Apple VP. Things can change, but... I think the rumors had it backwards. They worked on Face ID for a long time to put it in the X. They tried to get Touch ID to work with OLED just in case, and they decided that Face ID was superior.

Right. And to correct OTACORB - nobody else has FaceID. Samsung has a bootleg version that is not 3D sensing and can be unlocked with a picture. Good FaceID makes TouchID unnecessary.

Seems so obvious. I’m guessing they want the same sequence for the 8 and the X, so anything involving the home button is not an option...
[doublepost=1506193487][/doublepost]Upgraded from the 6 to the 8. Loving it so far. Had some iTunes issues with an old Apple ID I had for some oooollldddd apps still around from upgrade to upgrade. Also I don’t like that they force you to use their ringtones, I can’t use my own created tones. I wonder when Music will go down that route as well?

My biggest gripe on the phone is the home button. Wow, I don’t like it at all. I know the 7 users are used to it by now, but it’s going to take some time.

Just picked up a gold iPhone 8. Coming from an iPhone 5s that was jailbroken on iOS 8.1.

For me, night and day difference overall, as would be expected for a 5 year old device vs brand new. Having not used iOS 9 or 10, and going straight from 8 to 11, it's been a big change but really not bad. There's a couple jailbreak tweaks I miss (mostly UI and hiding/rearranging stuff) but I presume I'll get used to it. The home button has thrown me off a few times -- I keep mashing that effer down like on my 5s and it's not necessary. UI is fast with no noticeable lag. Don't have a case yet but haven't noticed any heat. Screen looks flawless, and battery seems great.

Overall, great impression of the iPhone 8.

If you drag the m4r files onto your phone on iTunes, it still allows side-losing of your own ringtones. Additionally, GarageBand on iOS will let you edit and export them on-device.

I couldn’t actually see the files on iTunes? I’m on Windows. I’ll have to try GarageBand. Thanks!

How is wireless charging with a case on the phone??
It works. Not much to report in that area. I have a pad in my car and when I placed it down it just started to charge.

Coming from a 6+ I’m far more happy with the speed of the phone. As for why I didn’t spring for the X, I didn’t want to downgrade my sceen size. If Apple came out with a plus equivalent X, I would have been first in line.

Hi guys,

Just thought I'd create a thread for new owners of the iPhone 8 / 8 Plus to share their first impressions of their new iPhones. Would be interesting to read some of your first impressions on things such as the design, display, camera, performance, fast charging and everything else.

I'm thinking a lot of users upgrading from the iPhone 7 / 7 Plus would be somewhat underwhelmed? I'll be switching over to the Note 8 soon after 8 years of iPhone and being disappointed with the the iPhone 8 and X updates, but it's always good to read some real first impressions from everyday users rather than those from the usual review sites and Youtube reviews.

Edit: Would be great if you can mention what phone you had previously, just to get some context.

I had an iPhone 7 and upgraded to 8+ and love it. I felt like the 7 was getting to small and I love taking pictures so I wanted to better camera. Haven’t tried the wireless charging yet. My only problem is the phone came with a stain under the glass and it makes a clicking noise when I’m on the phone. So off to the Apple store I go

Coming from 7+ to 8+. Initial impressions are as follows. Feels faster, not by much but it is noticeable. Build quality is top notch. I enjoy extra weight, feels more solid. Definitely easier to hold it when compared to 7+.

Long time 6S+ owner.. so torn between 8 or 8+.

Full disclosure.. I’m using 7 now and appreciate the smaller weight and size but sometimes feels too small. Reading reviews that the 8+ is noticeably heavier than 6S+.
