I *upgraded* from a 7 Plus to an iPhone 8.

I must say, the iPhone 8 feels amazing!
The weight and glass back makes it feel that bit more premium, and well built.

I love the size, and for me, it is just right, as I found the Plus models to be a bit too large and cumbersome to use.

TrueTone is superb, and I find it a lot more pleasant on my eyes with less strain.
The constant cool blue is searing.

The speed of the A11 chip is crazy too. It's lightning fast, and manages everything I've done so far with absolute ease.

Haven't tried out the camera yet, but will take some shots a bit later today.

I also have a new wireless charger arriving today so I can see how convenient this will be.

Overall, I'm very satisfied and think it's well worth the cash.

Wireless charging works. Hard to believe I’m even saying that sentence in reference to an iPhone.

Looks like we both bought the same wireless charger!

I love it, although I’m finding my iPhone 8 plus vibrates off the mat or slides off the mat. Not quite sure what is happening at the moment .

Space Grey 8 plus owner here. Overall I'm really pleased with it, but disappointed with the inbuilt camera app. I get exponentially better images using a third party app for taking photo's, which allows me full control of the camera and to save the images as RAW files and then edit them in Lightroom/Photoshop.

I was also disappointed with having to download all the apps again, but that's a shortcoming of the latest version of iTunes rather than the phone itself. I like to sync my iPhone and iPad via lightning cable and not via wifi to iCloud.

Hi
Which third-party photos apps do you like?
Thanks

Hi

I only use PureShot, it basically gives you all the control that you would have in using a DSLR, apart from having any aperture control, as the aperture is fixed in mobile phones. For $2.99 (US) it's a bargain!

I am having a problem (already!) with my 8. It is a 256 gb silver. It was fine earlier today when i was changing to it at home, but now i'm home tonight, and it is having trouble staying connected to wifi. I know its not my wifi, my computer is fine, my husband's phone is fine, mine keeps dropping and reconnecting. I tried calling Apple who had me reset my network connection (did not work) as well as resetting my software for my phone through iTunes. The apple care guy said if i had any problems, i should call him and i did because the software update failed on my computer. It is now 10:21 at night and i'm not really in the mood to do any more computer stuff now. Has anyone else had this happen and do any of you have any suggestions? Thanks so much! (if it continues tomorrow i will be going to the Apple store).
If it got back on your network automatically via iCloud backup delete connection and start fresh. Worth a shot.

I was wondering if I could you do me a favor. My concern was the hissing noise from the video recording. This problem occurred in ip7 plus.Would you be able to test that out in a silent room? Thanks if you do.

I just shot a 30 second video with me alone in a room and didn't hear anything other than my voice.

Guys, iPhone 8 come with more stock wallpapers? I watched many review videos and iPhone 8's are in that videos pink, and yellow like wallpaper have it.

Have owned every iPhone from the 1st to the 7th in whatever the smaller size Apple has. I figured since I"m going XS next year, I'd like to do 12 months of a Plus sized model cause big phones need love too.

A few negatives:

  • I had to order a new ProClip Mount for my car ($50)
  • A new X-Grip for my motorcycle ($20)
  • A new Dock Insert for my GroveMade Walnut Brass Dock ($25)
  • I couldn't use my old case ($49)
  • I can no longer hold it comfortably in bed...have dropped it on my face 4 times in the first night alone
  • It's a 2-handed phone even with my larger hands
  • I'm going to drop it way more than any phone I've ever owned
  • I prefer the aged leather of my 1 year old leather case than the new one which is very slippery. Need to scuff it up a bit
  • It takes up my entire pocket
  • I don't feel like the larger screen allows for more stuff. It just seems like every UI element is larger versus there being room for more things. It's not like when I get a new 5K display and I have room for more menu bar items. This just makes all the current items larger which is a surprise and disappointment

Pretty much all negatives are merely due to the larger size

Pros:
  1. The few photos I took last night are clearly superior to the iPhone 7 but still no where close to my real camera. I don't see myself taking more than 10 photos a week with this camera,,, mostly photos of beer for Untappd
  2. The battery life is a huge upgrade
  3. The True-Tone display I've had on the iPad 9.7" for 18 months is FINALLY on the phone and this is great!
  4. The speakers sound awesome
  5. I restored my iPhone 7 from backup last week and timed it. The new iPhone restored twice as fast on the same Internet connection and that includes syncing 150GB of Music and 93,000 photos + 500 videos from my 2 terabyte iCloud Library + around 150 apps.

Got my Silver 64 8 Plus yesterday. Upgraded from the 7 plus and think it is a worthwhile upgrade.
The camera alone is a big step up over the 7 imho. Love love wireless charging...it is so convenient.

james, I still got my original Samsung Wireless Charger (Stand), the latest 2017 model. I bought this one for my Samsung S8.
Do you happen to know if I could use this Samsung wireless charger for the 8 Plus and X?

Yup, It's not even close to my 10 year old D300, it's a bit better than the 7+ though. When you decide to crop or pixel peep, you can easily tell the limitations of a teeny sensor and lens. It might look better than a 14 year old 6 MP DSLR though with a kit lens lol
The 4K 60fps is a big boost though, most consumer/prosumer camcorders under $2500 don't even offer 60fps 4K ,but needs lots of light to look its best. The A11 has some serious speed to record it at HEVC.

I noticed the much faster restore speed also. Not sure if it's a combination of faster CPU vs. faster USB vs. faster flash storage.

I came from a regular 7 to a 8 Plus and I’m loving it so far. Got silver back again and more storage! It’s also working great so far! I’m very happy and okay with skipping the X this year! :)

It seems the reviews here from real owners are actually pretty good. Last year I got my phone on launch day but due to a business account glitch preordered 8 a few days later. I am giving up my matte black phone. So disappointed there were only 3 colors but ordered space gray 8. Plus is just too big for me. I’m staying with home button and no face recognition. X just a little too expensive. Hope mine doesn’t have the unmatched seams. Last year I ordered a spigen jet black case but decided to go otterbox symmetry this time as fingerprints were horrible. It appears cases and wireless chargers are really reasonable on Amazon. I ordered a charger for $12.99 on a lightening deal. Love reading all of your feedback. Hoping my delivery is next Friday. Fingers crossed. A little confused on porting over. Is it best to use ITunes or the cloud or is iTunes no longer an option??

If if Qi, I don't see why not?

I guess there is some confusion floating around about charging, so I thought I'd throw it in with a reply about my Qi experiences and what I think the situation is (feel free to correct):

- Since the iPhone 6, all iPhones can charge a bit faster using a 10W or 12W iPad charger. Even though this is supported, it's not the "fast charge" Apple was talking about
- The "fast charge" Apple was talking about that applies to the 8/8 Plus/X is using a USB-C charger and USB-C-to-Lightning cable (presumably only the Apple chargers right now). This has worked on the iPad Pro 12.9 and was also added with the iPad Pro 10.5, so it makes sense the 8/8 Plus/X get it.

- Qi charging should work with any Qi-certified charger. I picked up a Samsung one just because it was cheap and had decent reviews (waiting for the Ikea near me to open to get some of their stuff). The one I got was the original version, so I think it tops out at 5W, which is the same as the iPhone's included charger (but obviously, there's a bit of overhead with Qi charging).
- Qi charging for "fast charge" is going to be enabled with a software update and will allow up to 7.5W, but requires a charger that supports it. In my case, if I had gotten the more expensive Samsung one, it should work once that happens. Until then, those are operating at 5W.

I am sort of surprised Apple didn't offer a first-party simple Qi charger out of the gate. While AirPower looks cool, they had replacement Watch chargers early and I picked up an extra to keep at work. $19 or $29 is a bit different than picking up an extra AirPower mat (assuming it's going to be more expensive).

We have a wireless charger in our 2016 Chevy truck. Will have to try it out when I get my Phone.

After 1 day with the 8+ I am hooked. I've had every iPhone since the 4, never tried a Plus size until now. So far I love it, my favorite phone to date. I had no idea what I was missing out on, lol. Hopefully I will feel the same after the honeymoon phase ends. Love the split screen in messages and emails. Landscape mode for the home screen isn't a major thing but it is greatly appreciated.

Does anyone get minor lag when swiping just on the home screen, you know, swiping left or right to bring up other apps and/or news? Also happens when I scroll while watching YouTube videos in the YouTube app. I restored from my iPhone 7 backup instead of setting up as new, thinking this may be the culprit. I upgraded my 7 to iOS 11 and backed that up into iTunes, and restored that backup to my 8+. It stinks that iTunes can't save app data, otherwise I would've set up as new from the get go. I downloaded iBackupbot I think maybe this program has a feature to do it, but it's a pain to set up as new (for me).

A little confused on porting over. Is it best to use ITunes or the cloud or is iTunes no longer an option??

By porting over do you mean transferring your content from your current iPhone? I used iTunes to restore from a backup of my 7. Went off without a hitch. I've never done a restore using the cloud so can't answer that.

My husband ordered the otterbox defender for his 8+ and although it was for the 7+ otterbox they assured him it will work.
It does work but the lip at top and bottom was hard to get on. He basically had to use a credit card with force to lift the lip over onto the phone.

Excellent! Thanks. My confidence went up.

No prob!

... and to follow up on the 8 Plus, I gotta say this thing just rocks. A HUGE upgrade over the 6s Plus.

The screen quality is amazing and the sound too! Is this my first experience with stereo speakers on a phone?

The phone is blazing fast! Quite happy with the upgrade! The color too... the new gold is beautiful!

I have no doubt about the phone being solid. By the way, are you using cases?

Yeah... you liked my post on page 5 of this thread that included some pics and an Amazon link. I could have went with a more expensive case but I'm a firm believer in "if it ain't broke don't fix it" and I've been running that case for 3 years.

Can you get through a whole day on the 8 battery? I’m not a heavy user but I wasn’t able to on my 7.

Went from a ip6s to ip8+. I’m still getting used to the size difference, there isn’t much difference to me except when I go to touch something in the upper corners and try to stretch my finger. I put a case on it first thing so have no opinion on the glass back. I like the true tone.

Performance wise, maybe it’s still indexing or downloading music or pictures but I haven’t noticed anything earth shattering. I use Dropbox to view large PDF’s(blue prints for jobs), sometimes mark them up with Adobe. I’ve had the phone since yesterday around noon. Safari, games and stuff seem the same. My camera feed using Synology DS seems slower so far.

Set up kind of sucked. I got a sim free phone figuring I’d just put my old one in the new one. I had to keep switching the sim between phones to get the new one up and running. Tried using hot spot for WiFi to restore from backup, eventually gave up and went home to hop on my WiFi.

Overall I’m happy, haven’t tried the camera yet. Will get the X when it comes out and hand this one down to my wife or sell it.

I'll invest the $8 in a quality case that doesn't interfere with the display... has raised edges to prevent the phone from landing directly on the face... and has bumpered corners for shock absorption.

I've used these for the 6 Plus and my 6s Plus and have dropped my phone many times on concrete floors and pavement at work...

That case is nifty. I’m going to try it out.
