Yeah. If it was the Apple of 2011 the iPhone 10 would have been the iPhone 8. The current 8 is in reality a 7S(Although the update is so minor it can’t even be called S tbh). But that would make people believe the 7S is a whole 3 gen behind the iPhone 10 and hence the marketing lingo.

They are now giving the second class citizen treatment to the Plus lineup. The smaller phone didn’t get the High res display or the dual cameras and was languishing. Now it’s the 8 Plus’s turn. No OIS in the second lens. Laughable.
The IPhone 8 just doesn't exist in the media space at all. The talk is all about the X. Apple have superseded the 8 before it is even released. But it's been usurped by a phone 33% more expensive which in itself will marginalize it.

The 8 is already too old to want and the 10 is too expensive to afford.

Bizarre business imho.

Time, because it rules EVERYTHING!
Gaaahhhh... I found myself pricing up the X today... I like the Apple Watch too much.. hmm now do I get the iPhone X first or upgrade my iPad Pro? Hmmm...

I need the iPad by the end of February as I was thinking of putting the Smart Keyboard case on my birthday list.

I am still really annoyed that Apple have ditched the 128GB model though. I think I'll wait for the X reviews though.

It doesn't exist in the media space as theres nothing to talk about. Whats new in this phone compared to 7 Plus? TrueTone, a glass back, Portrait Lighting and that's about it. Its old wine in a new bottle. I am certain Apple intended it this way. They cant be blamed for increasing prices as theres the 8 Plus while the media keeps harping on and on the iPhone 10 which after deep analysis, customers will begin to understand how inferior that model is to the 8 and just get that.

Its intended to be bland so you find the iPhone X that much more interesting. Had Apple given the 8 Plus an OLED display, good luck selling the 10

Honestly the lineup to all intents and purposes is:
iPhone X - for those that want the latest and greatest
iPhone 7 - for those who want a decent phone at a good price (best bang for buck?)
iPhone 6s - for those who want the cheapest mid/ large size phones possible
iPhone SE - for those who want a smaller form factor

I'm really struggling to find justification for anyone to buy the 8 over either the X or 7, depending on whether they put higher priority on price or latest tech...

If FaceID turns out to not be as fast/reliable as TouchID, I think buying the 7 Plus last year was the best decision I have ever made. I just wouldn't plonk cash on the iPhone 8 when the 10 exists and I would have had to stick to a laggy 6.

Do you have any explanation for the message? Try restarting your device and then try TouchID and note the message. Then use an incorrect finger multiple times and fail the authorisation. The message matches the one on the screen.

Even on alpha software, the worst scenario would be a reboot which doesnt explain the message.

You havent seen bad publicity? TheVerge,Telegraph,BBC,CNN? Heck their stock price dropped after it failed
Yes, the explanation is special versions of the hardware and software. Since what versions of hardware and software Apple used is unknown, pick your explanation. None are wrong, just a matter of opinion.

Wall Street journal and others gave it good publicity. That cnn gave this bad publicity is fake news at its finest. This keynote was probably covered by thousands of outlets. Apple is not going to get to a trillion with stock price drops, which is the norm after the keynote. Heck are you worried the stock price will Keep going down or that sales won’t be as expected? I don’t think you have to worry.

I’ve had 24hrs to chew on the iPhone 8/X reveal. After weighing out the merits, the Note 8 is the better buy and will offer you more of a true smartphone experience.

Given the volume of agnostic messaging apps, cloud storage and video calling, there’s no excuse to settle for an iPhone 8 or 8+ which is basically the same phone from 4 years ago. Apple services are a very weak justification for what you get overall at this point.

When speaking of the iPhone X, nothing about the design and feature set merits the price tag and you are ultimately getting less smartphone than the Note 8.

I have an iPhone 7+ running GM iOS 11, and I’m having a hard time convincing myself the iPhone 8/X are worth considering.

Apple’s flagship iPhone X isn’t all that enticing compared to my Galaxy S8+ even.

I’m skipping Apple in 2017 and will be sticking with my iPhone 7+, which will go to my oldest son later this year, and my Galaxy S8+ which will be my only smart phone for the next 12 months or so.

Yes there are a lot of messaging apps now, but it gets pretty hard convincing people to use a certain one because of you.
In my experience they simply wont. The way IOS combines imessage with regular sms is fantastic.

EDIT: Im in the US so it maybe an American thing.

Gah then I go and watch an iPhone X video and just can't get over stupidly annoying and rubbish it looks with the stupid bar cutting into everything on the screen.. and I remember the Note 8 from the weekend...

I hope the notch doesn’t become a design trend.

It’s not a good design element and eats screen space. While the S8/+ and Note 8 can all choose to go full screen or native aspect ratio, on the iPhone X if you go full screen there’s an asymmetric intrusion into content. That makes it harder to take full advantage of that 5.8” display.

Probably not a huge deal on a massive 6.2+” display, but at 5.8” that’s not cool at all.

Who doesn’t want the iPhone 8? I do and I’ll bet more people might want it than you realize now that Apple has a virtual range of phones from the se to the x.

The unibrow is the most un-apple thing I have ever seen. What on earth are they thinking?

God knows what they were thinking, I mean they dumped Touch ID in favour of OLED and 3D Touch.. and then they have had problems getting 3D Touch to work with the OLED screen anyway?
Regardless they could have done a hell of a lot better designing it, Jobs would NOT have allowed this to be sold..

Hmm I need to use it, but it seems they REALLY are pushing for full screen use and that means that stupid bar always being in the way..

It was disturbing how the notch covered a piece of the on-screen game button. Ofcourse in due time, devolpers will update their apps with the notch in mind, but I can't imagine Steve Jobs letting something like this slide.

If you compare the iPhone 7 and 8 there’s very little incentive to upgrade. It’s a marginal change that will offer little in day to day usage to the user.

There’s a case for going from 7 to 8+.

iPhone X I’d have to see up close. The reveal wasn’t especially exciting. I’m going to need demo it first hand. In print and press it just lacks wow power.

I say that as a person with an Apple bias.

Odds are everyone you know uses Snapchat or FB messenger or Instagram or Twitter or Skype...I switched to the S8+ And 100% of my main contacts were covered in messening apps I already use. People I text once a year don’t matter. You probably won’t have to “convince” anyone.

Hence why “da blue bubblez doh” just doesn’t work anymore. Especially not for $1000.

- speed, camera upgrades, “fast charging” and many other things. Seems like more than a minor upgrade to me to go to the 8+.

As far as the iPhone X I’m not sold on it maybe the iPhone xs is for me.

My honest take-away ( from Apple's perspective) from yesterday's event is ' People WILL buy whatever we put out. '

Unfortunately, for a lot of Apple's fans, that'll be true and both iterations of the new iPhone will sell, as expected by Apple.

In conclusion, I wholly concur with him :

Of course most use Facebook messenger. But they just about always use iMessage instead. Even when I initiated the chat.

Just my personal opinion, but at this point it seems like the 8+ is the best pound for pound phone in Apple’s arsenal this year.

Then they can feel every piece of those green bubbles.

Facebook messenger is my primary messaging platform, but that was true even before I switched to the S8+. It has features I’ve grown to appreciate over what is offered in iMessage.

Yea I agree, the 8+ is the better buy. The iPhone X is more like a first gen introduced model. I'll wait another year until it seems more refined. Hopefully, Apple didn't totally give up on the in-display Touch ID, cause rumors suggest Samsung didn't.

I could do that but I’ll be hurtling myself. We do group chats often. Ecosystem is strong.
