Not to bite, but video encoding?

If you want to switch between apps while you're doing useful work, wouldn't it be useful for those apps not to have to reload due to memory constraints? Reloading apps would negate the speed advantage imo.

Realistically, I don't think either phone will have an issue getting useful work done.
There’s nothing to bite, if the entirety of how fast a phone is based on a Youtube test of how 25 apps load in a serial fashion, which is a use case only for youtubers that test this of thing; I only offered up something else.

So memory is not important? Look at how many apps the 8 is flushing out of memory. THe note 8 is beating it in ram management which is astonishing.

I look at benchmarks contextually looking at my use case. If I look at Geekbench I am actually downgrading if I buy a Note 8 coming from a 7 Plus. But I have my Dell ultra book and an iPad Pro ,with me whenever I move out and I do all my heavy work on that as I also get a bigger screen to work on.
Well I look at geekbench and these tests and whatever else. Phones have been fast enough since the 4s, but all I need to know is Apple produces great socs.

No not like that in the context of these “tests”, it never was. I would like to see you operate your windows desktop in that way.

My Windows desktop was running out of memory with 8gb so I upgraded it to 16gb. Same is the case here.

Something wrong with ram management on the iPhone 8? It's flushing games from memory according to this speed test. iPhone 8 isn't steam rolling the Note 8 like many predicted. It's similar to how it performs against the 7.

A11 processor is just about speed you can never really take advantage of. So what the dialer app opens up quick on iOS or something like that? It won't be able to run split-screen multi-tasking or something more resource intensive because iOS was designed with a grandma in mind.

iOS does have split-screen multitasking - I am doing it on my ipad pro with drag and drop, pip and slide over app. They just chose note to enable that function on the phone.

IMO split screen is useless on such a small screen. I tried it on an s8 and thought it was an absolutely awful experience. Lots of webpages are already small on a phone in full screen let alone in split screen mode.

It's not useless. I watch many youtube videos on my phone and i often check twitter, tapatalk, facebook or other apps while doing this on my S8+.

I can't do this on an iPhone.

How come the GS8 is not up there? I thought that was one of the best cameras.

Or, alternatively the screen on the 6s is readable in direct sunlight.

Or alternatively you are embellishing a bit (or more).:rolleyes: Note that I showed auto brightness enabled as I am pretty sure I would have been accused of cheating. In the shade it's still crappy but readable, but once it gets into sunlight it's not usable at all.

I actually tried this this morning again.. My 6s is perfectly readable in direct sunlight with my polarized sunglasses. I’m going to try tomorrow with my iPhone 7 and see if there is a difference.

As long as both load apps fast and are competitive even in movie eoncod9ng and retrieving 10000 emails I am good. I don't mind waiting the extra 20mseconds if it means saving 1000 bucks.

I can tell you one thing. It's not a downgrade. iPhone 7 plus I had before my Note 8, and the Note 8 can do circles around it. Geekbench or any benchmark does not equal to real world usage.

Exactly. These Geekbench scores are just numbers on paper. Not real world performance.
That's how I feel about my watercooled rigs I build. As a hobby, I overclock my CPU, GPU, and ram just to have fun posting scores with friends and forums. If I can beat someone with similar specs... I have bragging rights for a few days or hours. But when it comes to real world usage, a $1500 rig performs as well as $4000+ rig. I may have the scores, but most won't won't notice it in a app or playing games.... unless you have FRAPS displaying on screen the whole time. My PC bench scores is just something fun to look at... doesn't mean much to me... same goes for Geekbench scores.

Remember Vega has awesome specs on paper what with HBCC and higher scores than Pascal in benchmarks but when it comes to actual gaming both are equal

Picked up my 8 Plus here next to my Note 8

ff9eab0bd84e857b8f2e38977a6474da.heic

Nice, I was considering seeing if any stores had stock of the 8+ to replace my 7+, but I'm just being impatient for the X. I'll be up at 3am to order one, and even if I don't get the initial batch I can't see being more than a month delayed, guess I'll have it for Xmas.

But I may just grab a 8+ on swappa next week, maybe a hair cheaper with no tax and sometimes extras or apple care. I'm curious to see how prices are since the launch seems to have been a semi flop.

A11 is only on an iPhone. An iPad is a totally different product and experience because it's meant to be more productivity based and more versatile.

I think as long as you order within first 3-5 mins you should be ok..i think stock will be not much different to last year

I agree obviously people are different but I've always found multi window on samsung phones useful and I've always wished it would come to the iPhone. I think I find it more useful on a phone than a tablet.

Note 8 is faster at opening apps but has slightly slower WiFi performance..

Seriously, I love the opportunity to have two internet pages open at the same time. Whenever there's a football game on for example, I always like to read the forums on fansites from each team as the game is going on. Pretty awesome to not have to constantly be switching back and forth to keep up with the reactions.

I honestly don't know why real multitasking isn't a thing on iOS yet as it could be a way more useful feature for productivity compared to everything else they've added. Why have a beast of a CPU in multitasking, and not actually let it multitask?
