I don't care about numbers. Talk about real world performance
I don’t care about these tests but at the same time will comment. I want to know how long tasks take to get done real world like editing a 15 minute 4K movie in iMovie. Or how long it takes to render a page full of JavaScript in Safari.

Yep a11 bionic will crush the a10 all day long. Bye.

I don't do 4k movie editing so what does the A11 offer me?

Surely it all comes down to how you get on with a specific phone? If I like something, that's all that matters. I don't care what stats others throw around. Quoting specs and all these tests that you won't actually carry out yourself don't really mean much.

So you won’t be a good candidate for the 8, 8+ or x since your primary use case seems to be more in line with the video. My advice stay with your 7+.

Glad you agree with me. That's exactly my point. I have an iPad Pro with me at all times if I want to do productivity work as I don't like to do it on a smaller screen. I do some small amount of gaming, browsing, emails and financial spreadsheets which doesn't seem to show any benefit using this newer CPU. I may be getting the X as I want the bezelless OLED display. I am not getting it for the CPU. Although I seem to be getting nowhere in this Note 8 vs iPhone X debate. Both are just that good.

I do a lot of video editing and sharing as well as browsing in safari so the iPhone 8+ will be a welcome bump in speed. With the 256 gb model 4K recording shouldn’t be a space problem.

I don’t care about oled which is why the 8+ is my choice.

What are the geek bench scores again? Lol.

Again means NOTHING in the real world usage as proven in that video.

Okay, the iPhone 8 has much higher geekbench numbers over the 7. But it was very slow in rendering and all the things in that video compared to the 7. So if geekbench numbers are so good, then why did that happen? Like I said, it's not just about the numbers.

But it performs slower in real usage compared to the 7 plus. So in reality its a waste of money.

In my own opinion, these types of videos do not represent real world usage. Additionally and supposedly if the phones were running the same version of the software, it's obvious the IOS is doing something different for the iphone 8 and iphone x, possibly with respect to the a11 bionic chip that most definitely will be more tuned in a future update...probably before the release of the iphone x. That type of performance pattern seems typical for apple.

So I'm not betting the farm that this result will hold true in the near future. However for my use case, editing 4k videos with imovie, what do you think would be the outcome?

But for me the iphone 8+ is not a waste of money.

I7guy's use case is specific, and makes the new generation iPhones the best for him. Period. End of story.

If someone needs an spen, or prefers android, it makes the Note 8 better. Same for iOS and the new generation iPhones.

At this point, arguing screen brightness, weight to the gram, app speed in milliseconds.....how the heck does this actually matter? Don't get me wrong....I have fully participated in these arguments, in the past.

But the sheer speed, camera, etc is a non-factor today. It literally is a non-factor for 98% of people who buy smartphones. The smartphone makers don't care about the ~20 people arguing in a forum on macrumors.

I see this decision as rather simple, when it comes to this phones in their CURRENT state:

-Do you want/need iOS/AR/Best LCD display/Slight better Apps/Better games/Processing power that will be noticeable only in highly demanding task (4k editing, games like "The Witness"? -Then get the new iPhones. Easy

-Do you want/need Android/VR/Best OLED Display/MicroSD/Spen/Customization/versatility and flexibility of Android apps/the ability to rapidly switch between 22 apps for....what reason? -Then get the note 8. You will be happy.

*also...android auto is superior to carplay. Google assistant is superior in recognition, google maps is superior, and google assistant can play music from any app. I am rather disappointed in carplay, as of this morning. Honestly, this is by far my biggest complaint with iOS.

I have owned the nearly every iteration of Samsung and iPhones since 2011. I have enjoyed both. I have a note 8 here, which I love. I now have an iPhone 8 plus here. My decision (****dramatic pause***)

*The iPhone 8 plus. Why? Because my wife said so, haha. Happy wife happy life. She is tired of me switching phones, and dragging her along. She liked both phones. But the iPhone upgrade program, proximity of the Apple store, and most of all...the phones come unlocked. We don't plan on staying with Sprint much longer.

Thus ends my 7-year adventure, it appears. She made it clear that we are sticking with the iPhone for now, or she might inflict bodily injury.

That is fine, I am getting too busy to feed my technology addiction, and technology in general (from all sides) is getting so good, and so close to parity that switching phones/etc bring little "wow" factory anymore.

Don't worry...I'll still be hanging around, and I guess this all could change, over the next few days. But the Note 8s are going up for sale today.

No one knows it seems. But either way, it still out performed the iPhone 8 with 30fps 4k with the iPhone set to 60fps in some video that was posted here recently.
What about that leak on Samsung US's product page which said 60fps 4k would be coming to Note 8?

Good comments in general. With each phone and operating system, you take the pluses with the minuses based on your own use case; that's the bottom line. Almost my entire family is on iphone and facetime and imessage rule. I can't imagine the discussions on trying to standardize on a messaging and video platform across 40 people.
No not really I cant recall the 6s or 7 flushing all apps from memory when they launched. The 7 and 6s were beating the previous flagships when they launched.
It's also the first time time Apple has gotten into this type of soc design with the 2x4 design. No doubt, apple will smooth out the rough edges before the release of the iphone x. I'm betting there will be at least two or three releases prior to that.

The iPhone 7 was the first time they had an SOC with 2 low power cores

iOS is running on both the 7 and the 8. The phones have the same ram, and the 8 has the faster processor. It stands to reason that the ram issue is not hardware based. Most likely, it is code based and will be optimized with updates. Just like every iPhone. This really the only logical conclusion, at this point.

But the iPhone 8 architecture is different so it seems.

This is a hexacore generation right? A10 was quad I think? Anyways, cores don't matter as much because I think Qualcomm went from octacore to quad-core with the 820 processor and then idk about the 835 processor.
