Yep, so many of them say that apple does it better. They just wait for Samsung to do it first and then they do it better after they see the pains they went through. LOL.

But does Apple truly do it better though? They did do a better job than the Motorola Atrix did with a FP sensor. Touch ID was a resounding success. I feel like "doing it better" was a Steve thing.

As the competition gets better that 'doing it better' has no merit anymore.

That’s exactly the way Apple works; wait for Samsung to implement it, seenthe mistakes and simply fix the mistakes.

Exactly...... Apple is out on their own with the 3D facial scanning. No one else has done this. It is not the same thing as the others with facial scanning has done. Apple even said they were the "first" do do this.
So they are not taking an existing feature and trying to do a better implementation on it.

Then Apple is the first to get rid of the fingerprint reader. So if others follow their lead in eliminating that feature.....I am sure they will do it better as they learn from Apple's mistakes. That logic cuts both ways....

Apple appears has the guts to make moves like eliminating the headphone jack and FP reader. No matter how it turns out kudos to them.

Motorola removed its headphone jack before Apple, but they put it back. I wish Apple did the same, but sadly they won't. They might bring back the FP sensor. It wasn't a guts thing, rather a squeeze everyone for every penny they have.

One if the reasons I ditched the iPhone because they took away the jack. Traveling as I do, it wasn't fun using the adapter.

Personally I would prefer a choice to no choice but that's me. Those who didn't like wired headphones still had the option to use Bluetooth headphones when the jack was on. Its a needless hindrance. FaceID is not as fast as TouchID so Apple has compromised for form over function by eliminating the FP sensor and putting in faceID which failed on its first debut. TouchID on the back would be unergonomic but it would still be better than eliminating a useful feature altogether

The only reason Apple succeeds is because they have a ton of people entrenched in the ecosystem too deeply to switch.

There’s an easy way around the “squeezing“ don’t buy their products. I personally dont care if they are “squeezing” me as I get value out of using their products. Whether you believe apples moves are only motivated by profit is on you.

Well, it's not a technological advancement because they haven't replaced the headphone jack with something comparable because bluetooth audio isn't going to beat a direct connection. But wouldn't you get more value if you didn't have to spend $ on peripherals to get something simple like direct audio into headphones?

Right!

Honestly, one person I never thought I'd never agree with is Chris Prillo, he's had a few rants about the post - Steve Jobs Apple, I must say I agree with a lot of what he says, to especially after iOS7 was released, there has been this decline in the craftsmanship of Apple products and Apple software.

I owned and iPad 4 that came with iOS6, I remember that OS being stupendously smooth and fast, doing all that it did correctly, but after iOS 7, I get this feeling that Apple has sort of been trying to find itself and has made some questionable decisions.

I feel like the iPhone X is the first major sign of the post-Steve era. Steve would have not let that thing be leaked let alone released with the notch and all the software workarounds that still don't fully address it.

I didn’t have to spend any extra $$$ on the iPhone 7 vs the 6s. All my headphones worked. While you may not like the idea of an adapter it doesn’t bother me in the least.

If theres one thing obvious by their latest iPhones, its this. They even eliminated the 128GB storage tier so every one is forced to get the 256GB variant
People complained when 16 gif is not enough and now they are complaining too many models. 32/64/256 is as good as any other combination.

Well, if you skipped the iPhone 7, then you're going to deal with the iPhone 8/8+, which does include a lightning to audio adapter, but what if you lose it? You gotta buy another one. What if you want the best bluetooth headphones? Gotta buy the EarPods at Apple's stupendously justifiable premiums. Can't defend every one of Apple's decisions though.

I don’t understand why we have to bother with adapters. What was wrong with that horrible headphone jack? And if something was wrong with it why do the 2017 iPads and Macs still have it?

There is no 32. It’s either 64 or 256. 128GB was the sweet spot. They eliminated that and it’s either you get a paltry amount of storage or overkill.

Paltry and overkill to you. So now 64 gig is the new 8 gig?

I’m not defending anything I’m saying the adaptor doesn’t bother me. I have a 5s, 6s and 7. If I lose that or a charging cable or anything else I’ll replace it. As far as the best Bluetooth headphones, I have something that works and yes I would like to get AirPods.

64 is easier to manage than 32, but it isn't ideal though unless you have a headphone jack. No matter HEVC or not, 4k videos pile up.

Its paltry compared to the 128GB we were once getting and which Apple eliminated so that everyone is forced to get the overkill 256GB model. Take the iPhone X/8 for instance. A couple of 4k 60 videos,a few games like Real Racing 3 and apps and that 64GB is gone in a heartbeat. 128GB would have been nice but now pay more for the 256GB.

16GB and 64GB are one and the same now coz those iPhones didn't have 4k 60 recordings on em nor were the app sizes this large at that time.

But being apathetic about adapters isn't good though because the more room you give the more Apple can take away and start raising more prices.

I don’t understand why we have to bother with adapters in the first place. What was wrong with that horrible headphone jack? What problems does removing it solve? And if something was wrong with it why do the 2017 iPads and Macs still have it?

Heck, my iPad Pro 10.5 which is a new design still has the headphone jack!!

When Apple ceases to exceed my value quotient I will move onto Ubuntu. For right now I’m staying where I am.

You would have to ask Apple. I can’t defend removing it, but at the same time it’s not a big sticking point.
