Qualcomm X16 LTE modem capable of gigabit LTE

https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/iPhone+8+Teardown/97481

You need more than just the chip... https://www.engadget.com/2017/09/22/iphone-8-gigabit-lte-iphone/

Looks like the Note 8 (and other Samsungs) can do gigabit LTE, but not the iPhone 8, because it lacks the antennas necessary. From what I understand, this is a pretty big boost.

I don't think he knows we were giving reasons one way or another.

Ah, well sorry for my being a jerk then! :)

Very insightful contribution to the discussion!
I am glad you took the time to contribute to the discussion with your own insightful remark.
...my being a jerk..!
But at least you have a valid self-criticism.
I don't think he knows we were giving reasons one way or another.
You joined the thread on 29 September, 2017, had 7 posts. None of them contained any reasoning what you would prefer and why.
So, it would be wiser to refrain from playing the role of a kibitzer.

The title of the thread is "iPhone 8 or Note 8?", n'est-ce pas? Post #1198 gave an answer. Deal with it. Both of you.

How about wired fast charging?
It's faster I think but it's pointless because it requires a $80 separate purchase so Samsung including a slightly slower fast charger bundled in the box shouldn't be held against them.

That's because I didn't give an answer to what I preferred one way or another in this thread. I merely commented on other people's posts. You're trying way too hard. Quit while you're behind.

True Tone, inductive charging and a much better camera.
Inductive charging requires a separate purchase so not exactly a feature built in. I wouldn’t even call the Fast charge a feature. Feature of a product is what I get built in and which doesn’t require more cash outflow.

At least you had guts to admit what was evident.
You better acknowledge that it is a Forum, no proctors needed.

Not a feature when it wasn’t included and not a feature when built in.

Samsung is on a roll here. Will be interesting if it can beat the Pixel next. I still can't believe a Samsung phone is the fastest phone of 2017. I think Samsung took the criticism of it sTouchwiz skin to heart with the Note 8 and focused on sheer speeed
depends what the definition of fastest is. 2017 is also far from over. So by your definition they may keep that title or not.

The way Apple introduced it, it’s no different from me buying a wireless charging case for my 7 Plus and a wireless charging mat.( I never realised these were available before I read the 8 review on verge). It’s the same thing. So if you consider buying a separate mat for charging a phone as a feature in the phone, then almost any phone can be made wireless compatible.

My definition of fastest is what I do every day. I start my phone and use apps and for anything heavy I have my iPad Pro and Dell laptop with me. So the phone which has the fastest animations and the lowest load times is the fastest.

Well I have access to one or two wireless chargers at work, but I couldn't care about wireless charging except in a car. There having the flexibility and not having wires is perhaps the best use case, for me. Or maybe public places where I'm not afraid to put my phone down and don't have to plug it in to suspect outlets.

Agreed. So let's say I'm a mobile phone gamer it's clear which phone is faster. Our use cases are very different, which is why I focus on different things. I spend a significant amount of time on email and safari and on long flights, playing games, not bouncing from app to app. Opening animations are a non-factor for me. And for anything heavy I have my sp4 or ipad, which I can use on most flights these days; thanks to wifi. (and a lot of flights have power stations under the seats)

Its just a convenience case for me. If phones were costing $950 like they used to I would have no qualms getting one. The X costs $1200-1300 including taxes, screen protector and cases. Its not worth that much to me to spend even more on top of that. I would rather get the $89 fast charger

Nothing on the App Store comes close enough to stress the GPU of these mobile devices. Its like buying a 1080 for playing games at 1080P and comparing it against a Vega 64. Sure the 1080 will be on 150fps while the Vega is on 130 but the experience is the same apart from benchmarks for bragging rights on a piece of paper

And how on earth is browsing a slower experience on any of these devices. I have an iPad Air 2 and an iPad Pro 12.9 in front of me right and apart from ProMotion I have zero performance issues loading websites on either device so how is the Galaxy Note 8 going to provide an inferior experience?

They have an effect on how responsive the device feels. In this speed test the Note 8 may be seeming more responsive thanks to the quicker animations but put it against a One Plus 5 with its snappy animations and you would feel the OnePlus 5 is faster. This was even documented in the XDA lab tests where they said the snappy animations on the One Plus 5 make it feel a lot faster than it actually is

Me too. I dont like doing rigourous tasks on small screens. And my iPad Pro 12.9 ProMotion makes any electronic device I own feel laggy so I actually enjoy doing work on it even though it may be slower than the iPhone X

Let’s of stuff but basically “faster” is in the eyes of the beholder based on your own use cases.

I don’t care about benchmarks nor does the average smartphone user. Real world usage is all that matters and JavaScript benchmarks, FPS in games are just numbers on paper and not indicative of the experience. AMD used to hold blind gaming tests for the exact same reason. People actually found the lower frame rate system smoother than the higher frame rate one. Shows what scientific benchmarks are worth. Of course on the PC forums there was an uproar on how AMD was fooling users into buying substandard performance blah blah blah yet the average user didn’t care.

I also don’t know how reliable these Geekbench scores are. Samsung has in the past rigged up their system so that on detecting Geekbench being run, the CPU overclocks itself to unrealistic levels so that scores are maximised.
