Samsung is on a roll here. Will be interesting if it can beat the Pixel next. I still can't believe a Samsung phone is the fastest phone of 2017. I think Samsung took the criticism of it sTouchwiz skin to heart with the Note 8 and focused on sheer speeed

This is always nice to see. I think it will beat the iphone X as well due to the new gesture system thats needed for task switching etc. on the upcoming iphone X. It's much more easier and smooth to move around the UI on the Note 8.

Don't worry. Apple's going to fix everything with the legendary iOS update which is coming soon. Stay tuned!

I dont think so. iOS 11.0.2 actually is slower than 11.0.1. 11.0.1 performs better in certain instances as well. Shame on Apple!!!

Perfect. Bookmarked for future reference.

Hopefully you get to refer to it before June because so far till now 7 Plus users are having a faster performance and charging phone then the 8 and if it takes till June, time to get the iPhone XI

I really enjoy that I can plug the Note in for a brief period and it’s ready to go but aren’t there other YouTube videos showing the 8+ fast charging properly? I’m sure Danny winget has 1 posted
[doublepost=1507575154][/doublepost]I don’t hide the fact that I prefer the Note 8 I think it would be unfair to level that accusation at the 8+ when there are clips opposing that posted link

Isn't the point of fast charging, that you can like half charge it very quickly, not that you can fully charge it very quickly? Has anyone tested getting from zero to 50%?

Is no use, stay where you are and don’t upgrade. I like ios 11 b2 on my trusty devices.
The only thing I like about 11.1 B2 is the 3DT app switcher. They did a nice job on that. It’s working with my screen protector perfectly while previously it never used to reliably as the edge of the screen protector blocked it. The Plus required me to stretch my finger to reach the home button but now I don’t need to. Just have to fix the home button delay, 3DT lag and the scroll lag when scrolling down after swiping left to the widgets and I am a happy camper.

That's actually good advice. That's why it's hilarious when people really about Samsung or other Android oems not getting the latest version immediately. Some Pixel owners are glorified beta testers for when the new release finally gets fixed.

This has been the iOS release cycle for years. If you have no tolerance for niggling things only install the final iOS version in June if one wants to upgrade.

I like beta testing, I do it with multiple products and have a large tolerance for ignoring little things.(like how a windows update crashed dhcp)

I really see no point in comparing the Note8 and iPhone 8 Plus, at first it was mainly due to the sheer amount of functionality in the Note, but after having used my Note8 with DeX, I realise we are comparing a simplified phone (iPhone 8) to what is pretty much a full on computer/convergence device (Note8).

This video is a nice comprehensive look at DeX with the Note8:

If productivity isn't a priority, rather get the iPhone 8 Plus, if it is, get the Note8. It's that simple.

Dex is limited use and only runs win32 apps. If I need to run 100% of my windows based software my sp4 is always at hand. So if I can’t run 100% if my software dex isn’t adding any productivity for me. So ergo we are back to android vs iOS as your preference.

Wow, that is pretty cool. The thing is for travel, however, you aren't really saving a lot to carry the DeX module with a keyboard, mouse and cables; vs. carrying something like a Surface Pro. You also then wouldn't be able to work on a plane with it, and you'd be dependent on their being a monitor with HDMI where ever you are. To me, this is actually more valuable for someone that doesn't have a home computer at all... so they can just by the phone and the DeX. But then they could also buy a Chromebook for similar money. Interesting, but not sure its going to really take off.

I've been using it at home, no need to bring my work laptop home and my personal laptop stays in its bag.

Seeing as I am always in the TV Room, my DeX and keyboard are always there ready to go either I plug in or WiFi. :)

Yep, that use case makes more sense than the one in the video.

Yeah I like my 2017 surface pro much better for something like that. But I do think it may be the future. At least we are heading towards a time when the only computer you will need is your smartphone and a docking station at your work/home. I also see the possibility of ubiquitous public docking stations where you just connect your phone, but who knows if we will ever have any kind of uniformity or standards all the oems stick to. Also can't forget about foldable screens IF and when they do show up.

The other caveat is these companies really need to get these things setup wirelessly. On a slightly unrelated topic it brings to mind carplay and android auto and what a pain they are because they are not wireless. From what I understand at least BMW is doing wireless carplay now, but this really should be universal by now.

True, but only if there was a way to do wireless charging in the car.

Indeed.

It's an interesting situation with having a Galaxy Note with its SPen that already sets it apart from everything in the market productivity wise, but then you add DeX and the Note8 is really just a different device altogether.

Honestly, if someone is not going to utilize the the full convergence suit that is the Note8, they may as well get a regular phone like the iPhone 8 Plus. I simply cannot strain what a waste it is if you are not planning to do more than Web Browsing, Gaming, Social Media and Email. Samsung should be taking the Note8 + DeX combo to corporates.

Theres no point in me getting an iPad Pro or using my iPad Air 2, when this phone can get even more done, it's truly blurring the lines between phone, tablet and a your smaller laptops, in a very interesting way.

Take note, the DeX station, Keyboard and mouse take less space than a laptop as all of them are small, the keyboard folds up and the keyboard also has its own touchpad so you don't need to take a mouse.

True, but you can't really use it like a laptop. You can use it like a docked laptop. But on a plane or something... you are working on a phone sized screen. Plus corporate types are not going to be OK not running their desktop apps when at the desk. A small business might be able to get away with this, where the people are on the road a lot?

There have been a few attempts at this kind of thing in the past. I think IBM even had a device for a while that was like a portable drive module you took with you and put it into the desktop unit to use... bring your work with you. The need for that physical carrying your data around has gone away with the cloud tools. The Note and DeX is allowing you to bring your computing power with you... but how much is that really worth?

Remote Desktop services works way better than dex if one has connectivity. I can see dex for light editing assuming your corporate it guys allow corporate information on a phone. Narrow niche is dex.

Actually there are some pretty compact foldable Bluetooth keyboards, portable hdmi cables and tiny mouses (unless keyboard has included touchpad) you can bring with you to a hotel and plug into the hotel TV or hotel monitors for those special suites that have them. I would love for them to make a laptop DeX Dock which hopefully will come in near future. DeX is still the closest thing to having your phone as a real PC and I have been using it that way. It's so smooth and the future will be more amazing.

Samsung really doesn't play around, well worth my $1000 dollars unlike a iphone X. Think about it...you can get a S8 (with included Fast Charger sorry Apple), DeX Dock (additional fast charger included for free), monitor, mouse, and keyboard for well under a $1000 (the price of a iPhone X) and have a complete computer albeit not the greatest but fully functional.

Heck you can add on a VR headset and wireless printer and still be under $1000 for a complete productive and fun experience.

Note 8 is simply a beast. The S8 is the only device that should be compared to any iphone released this year including the iPhone X imo.

It's definitely not a laptop, that's why I say it's a combination of devices. I feel comparing it to something like a iPhone makes no sense as it is a lot more than just a regular phone, at the same time it's not a full on laptop, but is far better for getting things done than a tablet.

I know for my line of work it is a great device, all my work is done in the cloud, and there are mobile apps that I use when traveling. I am a Digital Marketer, so I work on Google's AdWords, DoubleClick, Facebook Ads, Twitter Ads and LinkedIn Ads, all of which are also optimised for mobile, on top of that when I do Creative briefs and annotations the SPen is great.

Most people in my industry could easily do what they need with a Note8 + DeX.

I feel like Samsung did their homework on this hence it comes with a particular set of apps already fully optimised for it and working extremely well.

Now the big task ahead is making people want it.

They need to just couple DeX with the Note8 globally as they did down here in South Africa.

By the way, a DeX type of setup is perfect on the African continent as for many down here, their first interaction and highest interaction with the internet is via Smartphone. I think this where DeX will come in very handy. Going to your post on people who don't own a PC. :)
