Anyone remember this old, but gold meme?
Ha! "Old but gold." ;) Reminds me of the adage "You don't know what you don't know." I was an iPhone user for a long time, and I generally regarded them as the superior device.

I now own a Nexus 6P, which is nearly a two-year-old phone mind you. I have features that the iPhone/iOS is just now getting this year. Once you've seen both sides (Android AND iOS), it really changes your perspective. It breaks you out of the reality distortion field and then you realize that Apple isn't quite as far ahead as they let on. Quite the opposite in many regards.

In all fairness, I can't say that the software side of Android was superior to iOS back in 2012 because I simply don't know. Fast-forward to now, however, and stock Android is an absolute treat.

Definitely going to go with the iPhone X. I'll be getting one this year, I get new iPhones every year. I've had several Samsung devices and they always slow down and lag, and have issues. I like the fluidity of iOS and the fact that everything just works with all of my devices. I just feel that iOS is a better OS than Android at this point, same with macOS vs Windows. I just feel Apple's offerings to be more to my liking. I don't care about customization or other things on Android. I care about how fast my apps open, how fluid it is, and the lack of lag. I get a new phone every year, but slowing down isn't the reason. They stay fast for a very long time. I like new features/design. I really love iOS/iPhone for that reason. I also love the camera (the camera on my 7+ amazes me) and the other features of iPhone. I love iCloud, I love iMessage/Facetime, and I really don't see anything, let alone a Samsung to pull me away at this point. I'm a lifer.
And there you go. That's awesome. It's one thing to blindly choose one OS over the other, but to try both and then make a decision about which suits your needs better is the key to actually knowing what you want. I wish more people around here did the same!

However, I do implore you to try stock Android sometime. It's really, really terrific. Buttery smooth, too. I've actually never owned a Samsung device so I can't speak on behalf of those, but your experience does seem to echo similar things that I've heard from other users. I hear that the S8 is much better which is encouraging.

You should use what you enjoy.

I never found the s8+ to lag. The stock launcher wasn't too my liking (any lag with that has been fixed via updates), so I use Nova. Nova is 100% fluid on my s8+, and the note 8's extra 2gbs of ram, and possibly the updated TouchWiz seem to have eliminated any perceived lag (based on reviews).

I also find widows 10 to be the more efficient, faster operating system. I actually sold my tbMBP because of frustrations with slow downs. The hardware, for the price, wasn't able to keep up with my demands. For less, I got a Dell XPS 15 9560 (i7 kaby, 16 gigs ram, 512 sad, 1050 gpu, 4k screen, fingerprint scanner, etc). It's the fastest labtop I own, or have ever owned (and I have owned several, including a few 15 and 13 in MBPs). It's almost as fast has my custom built PC, which I didn't think was possible.

But you like the features of Apple OSes, and if they are worth the asking price to you, then enjoy them.

Android and Windows 10 are similar. Out of the box, these days, they run great and can go match Apple's offerings (it's all preference at this point). But, it is much easier to bog down or ruin the experience, compared to apple, because of their open nature. At the same time, it is possible to tweak and exceed the functionality of Apple OSes, using Windows / Android.

I can't think of a feature the Apple's integrated eco-system offers, that I haven't implemented with Android/Windows (equal or better, not inferior). Most of these features Microsoft is slowly baking into windows and Android apps. There are also third party apps that achieve the same result. It's all about chocie.

But you are used to the Apple approach. My first smartphone was Android, and I was raised on Windows. Then I went to iPhone and MacBooks Etc for years. But I never lost my familiarity with the other side. I also never lost sight as he advantages and disadvantages of both (though again , reaching parity now). If you have you something for a long time, it takes a while to get used to a change, but if giving time you figure it out and you see the benefits. It's the advantage of being platform agnostic.

The problem is is that apple is continuing to raise prices, and make the ecosystem even more and more dependent on having multiple Apple products. Causing the overhead cost to either be prohibitive or completely lock you into their ecosystem.

I don't want to be locked into something like that, I have been before, and it's expensive to maintain, and it is expensive to leave.

That being said, do enjoy the Unix base of Mac OS, but Windows is baking bash shell into windows. It's experimental but will be rolled out in a month or so in a more visual way, via the windows app store. So far the Linux base shell has been Flawless in Windows.

I wasn't a fan of the design of the iPhone X, the Notch doesn't really do it for me.

But movies leaking over into the cut-out....what?

I am patiently waiting for my Note 8 to ship.

I'm still shocked that this is Apple's move. I mean, I never cared about perfect symmetry, but for the actual display output, if full screen movies/videos have the "ears," that's really bizarre and distracting.

I'm not a fan of the notch, honestly. I don't mind it on the essential phone, but it's very large on the iPhone X. I don't mind a small bezel, like on the note 8 or LG v30.

iPhone X is actually nice except for the notch and the price tag but not as technologically advanced as the Note 8. Boils down to if you prefer a golf cart or Tesla.

LOL, so glad I'm getting the Note 8.

Traded in my iPhone 5 and am paying $730, got a free 128GB SD (SD cards are perfectly fine for storing media which is the only reason that you need more than 64GB space anyway) card and fast wireless charger (That I don't have to wait until next year to use :p).

That's not even mentioning all the features of Android and ESPECIALLY the S-Pen.

So, in recap:

-192GB effective space
-6.3" Screen
-S-Pen and all of it's features
-REAL multitasking (Makes watching the stream of this hilarious event and perusing the comments much more effecient...Haha)
Effective Price: $730

iPhone 8 256GB (For closest storage tier):
Price: $1150
Effective Price: Unknown, pricing information for Airpower not available.

Glad I got the note 8! Apple copying everything Samsung has had for years now. Lol
I don't mind the copying at all, all companies do it. In fact Apple should have had these new features 3 or 4 years ago like most Android phones. I honestly think for someone that is invested in iOS the iPhone X will be a slick device, now Apple just need to open up iOS a little and allow some simple customisation ect to take advantage of all the power that phone has under the hood as its really wasted as it stands. With all that said im extremely happy with my S8 Plus, its a wonderful phone.

For all those who moaned about the note 8 price, it's a bargain compared to the iPhone X. Also a better phone imo.

No remember they are setting the path for technology for the next 10 years!!!!

I chuckled when they said that. I was like what?! The features others have had for years.....lol.

I was underwhelmed for the most part, but I can't wait to play with the iPhone X in store.

I think the iPhone X is a great step in the right direction. But some of Apple's selling points was laughable. Next year's line up will be much better.

IMO, It's too bad the 8+ doesn't have an OLED display.

Me too. For me, it represents Apple's future. And a way to keep competition (like Samsung) from getting too comfortable now that they are ahead. Face ID, in particular, will keep them on their toes. Face unlock on the S8 works like magic, but Face ID should take it to new levels of accuracy and security.

This this this!!!

The iPhone X part of the keynote had me laughing quite a bit, it was like ticking all the Note8 boxes, but with a whole lot of other stuff missing.

Glad I went for the Note8 :D

Apple's "Super Retina" name for the display was kind of cringe worthy, at least for us tech enthusiasts.

I guess the Note 8 has a "Super Duper Retina" display. :p

The iris scanner is more secure than facial recognition. Also it's more accurate. On stage today they said that face ID could not distinguish between identical twins. Iris scanning can. However Samsung may improve the facial recognition feature.

Samsung isn't actually as close to being that bad in actuality. Sure, the note is $930, but they have so many trade in deals, like the one I'm using trading in an iPhone 5 (5 year old phone) for $200, which I would not come close to that value selling it today. Plus the ~$180 trade in value freebies, and the inevitable $150 (with additional incentives) price drop that will come 2 months after the initial release. Basically, it's an artificial surface price that doesn't represent what people will actually pay and the extra value of freebies, etc...

Trade in deal is what caught my especially with iphone 6 plus for 300 dollars deal.

That's just something that will infuriate fans lol.

Wait isn't Face ID slower too? All you have to do is activate the screen and presto with the Note 8? FP sensor, location aside, is much faster than Apple's new toy.

I will never buy a phone with FID only, i drive long distance with my phone in a brodit holder which is legal here but not if you have to get it out to stick near your face to open. Also you still have to swipe up anyway.
At least Note 8 you can still swipe or passcode. But then its Mr tommy Tall and i didn't like the 7 plus which is a bit shorter.
But i do like the s-pen as i like the iPen with my 10.5 pro.
Think i will sit out this year with my standard 7 its not worth going to the 8.

So as an employee of T Mobile you have confirmed the base price for the new iPhone 8, and that the base storage capacity will be 64GB... not rumours, but confirmation from yourself..
And there you have it. You can go back and read my posts now.

As I said, 64gb for the base model and it wouldn't go over $1000. Now I won't spoil things and tell you what the T-Mobile promo pricing will be for the new iPhones. But as I said before, it won't necessarily be the same price as Verizon or ATT.

Thanks for playing.
[doublepost=1505258799][/doublepost]
Well you can have your opinion, I'll got with the CEO of a Carphone Warehouse though.
Sales in the U.K., don't mean a whole lot in terms of overall sales. Hell, California spends more on Apple products by itself than the whole of the U.K. And Ireland combined.

I think you can still use a passcode on the iPhone x, it's a passcode or face ID. However I think Samsung have a better array of options including iris scanning, face unlock, fingerprint sensor and you can also use a voice password to unlock your phone or use trusted places. Plenty of options.
