With those kind of specs, if true, it's not going to be a cheap phone and it will have an odd place in the line-up, especially compared to a refurbished iPhone 14 (pro) in mint condition.

This will be the only 6.1 inch phone. The other models will be going to 6.3 inches by then. I’m guessing the non-pro models will get the action button next year, so makes sense that the SE coming after it will have it.
The chip will probably be a carryover from the standard models the year before. Still 60hz to keep costs down, and Apple feels it’s a pro feature.

i need the folks in the comments claiming this to be the new mini to please use their brains. mini doesn't mean low price, it means a smaller phone. this se is rumored to be the same size as the regular 15 & rumored 16, and therefore worthless to fans of the mini.

These should have the CPU set up for extreme efficiency over speed to extend battery life. That's usually the downfall of the smaller phones, especially once they're not new and the battery begins degrading.

It sounded good until the article said they will be crippling the camera capability. If it had the dual camera of the 14 it would have been a great choice for most people out there. Yeah, I guess I just answered my own question.

From my perspective, this is the worst rumor. I was really hoping they would keep an LCD if not the retain the home button as well.
I think that design philosophy is gone at apple. The bottom is a reclic of the past and it would make sense to simplify the line up and ditch parts they only use on one specific device. It wouldn't make sense to keep the button around.
Face ID is an affordable part for apple now. And I'm glad the rumor states the lack of dynamic island as I see it that worst addition to an apple phone since inception. It just takes up to much screen and doesn't add anything that already wasn't there. It makes this little area above it conpletley useless. We can still have the same UI at the top of our screen pop up. I knew there were technical limitations when the island was announced. But for me it's not usefull as I may interact with it a few times a month.

Keep the price low. Perfect device for a BYOD work phone. Since my company will lock down even personal devices in their BYOD program, I prefer to keep a separate phone for company email/chat functions. The entry level SE will be the perfect device for that.

You misunderstood. Folks are expressing their wish for the next SE to use the mini form factor, in spite of the current rumors.

This sounds awesome honestly. My guess is that the compromises will be camera and screen brightness. Starting at $499.

I like the idea of the rumored SE 4 retaining the rear camera of the current SE. I think the rear camera housing of the PM phones have gotten wildly out of hand and the same goes for the Pixel visor camera housing.

As someone with an SE 2 and an SE 3, it would sure be nice if the camera actually got upgraded. I don't even care what the device looks like, although smaller would be nice. I don't want to lose the home button either, but I could learn to get used to it since I do have a current iPad that lacks it. I do like that my iPad has Touch ID in the power button though!

This sounds like a Spring 2025 device. I’m so close to throwing in the towel in waiting for an XR/11-based SE. I should just get the SE 2022 to keep an LCD display.

I realize some of you prefer LCD and/or Touch ID for various reasons, but LCD and/or Touch ID-based iPhone represents less than 5% of iPhone sales. Apple probably stands to gain far more sales by offering iPhone SE 4 with OLED and Face ID.

iPhone 14 currently sells for $699, and it can be argued that by the time iPhone 16 rolls around in September 2024, it will be reduced to $599. So if iPhone SE 4 launches in the spring of 2025, it can probably hit $499 price point while still maintaining the margin, but sell at greater quantity.

No home button, no sale.

How many times do I have to keep saying this?

And before the kneepad crowd starts harping on me, there is a sizable contingent of users for whom Face ID is not a solution, or who simply prefer Touch ID. Keeping a single phone in the line-up with Touch ID doesn't hurt you, so back the frick off.
What phone do you have?
