Some people are willing to pay more for a premium smaller phone as well, except the market is beginning to phase out that option.
SE is outdated in my eyes when it was released and seems more outdated iPhone 8 is coming out. I wouldn't buy outdated tech
I went from a Plus to an SE. I ended up returning the SE even though I really liked it for a regular 6. It's a pretty good size but I do miss the screen real estate of the Plus. Its good for backup/spare device for me.
I wouldnt be able to use it as a daily driver since Im used to the Plus models![]()

So this is my question - even when released it was a bit lacking, and now it's over a year old and the price is holding pretty firm (but with more memory).
But it doesn't look like it will continue to be updated in any kind of meaningful way (unless the plan is to keep it comparable with the "older" model - i.e., the iPhone 7 next year once the 8 is introduced), and I would still like the headphone jack . . .
So I'm thinking maybe buy, with the recognition I'm not getting newest tech . . .
"a bit lacking" is really not fair considering the price. If they charged $50 less than the same capacity 6, that would be one thing. But they charged $250 less! I would have paid the same amount of money had it had all of the features. Heck I would have probably paid as much as the 6 to get the smaller screen despite having slightly lower specs. So the decision really can't be made in a vacuum. How important is the size to you? If having a smaller phone is paramount to your needs, then the slight tradeoff in features relative to the cost, certainly more than offsets the fact that it isn't the latest tech.
If this were August, then we might be having a different conversation, as Apple could introduce anything with the next iPhone. However, would you still be interested in a 5"-sized phone if it cost you $800 instead of $400 simply because it had the very latest technology? If it were me, I'd still be taking a long hard look at the $400 SE instead.
Not this bizarre attitude again. That Latest and greatest tech tingle down your leg lasts slightly longer than the time it takes to pay your first months bill, if that long.SE is outdated in my eyes when it was released and seems more outdated iPhone 8 is coming out. I wouldn't buy outdated tech
Happened to play around with the SE at the apple store. I could not go back to that screen size and screen quality. The screen is dim and ghosty.
Yup alone the screen is ok, but once you see the 7 screen, especially Plus size you can't go back. The screen quality is one of the biggest downers for me. I don't notice it until I see someone else's 6s or 7. Then difference in quality and contrast is pretty obvious.
I'm hoping (but not betting) that Apple will make a new SE with updated screen tech--along with updated internals--this fall (or maybe Spring 2018). It's not likely, but maybe they'll do it since the SE has been pretty popular and has exceeded Apple's sales expectations.
Then again, it's a $399 iPhone. It's the MacBook Air of the iPhone lineup. So I guess I can't expect too much.

I went from a 7 to to SE and reallly don't notice the screen difference in terms of quality. Unless you really get your face up close to the screen. It's still a fairly high quality screen and apt for the size.
The build quality and feel in the hand is a breath of fresh air.
