If the other products are going to also be spec bumps, why is a whole event needed for that? Are they going to go on and on about Apple Intelligence again? They already did so at WWDC and the iPhone event. The Mac Mini is supposedly getting a redesign, but that isn't enough reason for an event.

I guess it's possible that they will have a Mac-only event to show off M4 Pro and Max, but it will be one short event.

You may not be aware Apple has events to let its 1 Billion active (and repeat) customers know about new and upgraded Apple products.

It's what companies do to reach out to their customers.

I agree and will be curious about any counter arguments. I suspect the only reason for making it smaller is some sort of cool factor showing that they CAN make it smaller so did. But I agree it would be placed someone below a monitor with a few thins plugged into it (including maybe a hub) and the largely ignored.

How about they show us that they “can make a smaller iPhone” again?

:D

If I were a betting man, and I’m not, I’d say that they are announcing Christmas-gift-worthy devices now, and letting the general computing announcements happen at a time convenient to Apple and the Product.

So their events have 1 billion viewers?

What are you even talking about? I realize that something that even sounds vaguely like a criticism of Apple draws you to it like a mosquito to a bug light, but that's not what I was saying.

Apple is also known to spread the word about their new products through press releases, like they did with the iPad Mini 7. Events tend to be used when they have more to say about a device, so I'm questioning whether there is enough to say about these updated Macs to warrant an event vs. announcing the new products via press release.

I think there will still be an "event". It could be another 30-40 minute video talkign about the M4 Pro/Max chips and MBPs, the new Mac Mini design and perhaps a bumped iMac (although this one could also be a press release).

It would not surprise me if they devoted significant time to Apple Intelligence given the hype they've been trying to build around it with all the the iPhone 16 ads. Likely some new features or showing how the power of A18 / M4 can be utilised. After all, the previous deep dive at WWDC was based on A17Pro iPhones (unless the demos were actually running on preproduction A18 chips).

What do you think? Will there be an event this month, or simply more press releases?

Love the emphatic “yes” or “no” answers to an either—or question!!

So, will there be an event or more press releases?

😁

Yes, it’s absolutely happening.

😎

Nope.. I think they are going to do…

Yes, it is.

Here's a clear answer, but the yes is still amusing!

Yes, there will be an event.

So, will there be an event or more press releases?
Of course!

That’s actually a marvelously clever response!

Yes, same virtual event.
Apple would never pass up the opportunity for attention and marketing opportunity.
Same virtual event as the press release?

So, will there be an event or more press releases?
Will probably still happen.

Another good one.
My guess is yes. They will have an event that will hit hard on Apple Intelligence, announce the release of 18.1, and introduce new M4 MacBook Pro models. They announced the mini early to keep the media event shorter and more focused.

And, the best answer of them all, one that can be used to answer most any question you are ever posed, other than the simplest black-and-white basic ones.

I think it depends

That handle is also brilliant! It addresses many things Apple, and is perfectly apt in this case, as it virtually answers the question!

No offense meant here; I'm teasing and having fun with this. Too many years being a student, test taker, and even, for a spell, a teacher and survey designer.

I think the answer is *both* — an event and more press releases — which renders the question itself problematic as there is a third way — the Apple way:

Apple will be Everywhere!

I doubt it. Why would you leap to the conclusion? That's silly. That's Apple's customer base.

Clearly it would be a much smaller number of those who are genuinely interested in Apple's entry into AI.

"Events tend to be used when they have more to say about a device, so I'm questioning whether there is enough to say about these updated Macs to warrant an event vs. announcing the new products via press release."

The good news is you don't have to watch it. Apple gives you the option should you be sufficiently curious.

Apple has held an October event in three out of the past four years, but is an event this month still likely after today's surprise iPad mini 7 announcement?

scary-fast-apple-event.jpg

While some Apple enthusiasts believe that the iPad mini 7 being unveiled in a press release today means that Apple is unlikely to hold an October event this year, the announcement does not entirely rule out the possibility. Last year, Apple held a 30-minute virtual event on October 30 to introduce new MacBook Pro and iMac models with the M3 series of chips, so another Mac-focused event this October would not be out of the ordinary.

This month's updates to the Mac lineup are rumored to be more significant than those announced a year ago. In addition to updated MacBook Pro and iMac models with the M4 series of chips, the Mac mini is expected to receive its biggest redesign since 2010, and that might be something that Apple wants to highlight on video during a virtual event this month. According to rumors, the new Mac mini will be nearly as small as an Apple TV, and feature two front-facing USB-C ports, which would make it look more like the Mac Studio.

On the other hand, Apple already unveiled the standard M4 chip in the iPad Pro earlier this year, whereas the M3 chip was unveiled at the October event last year. Still, there are the higher-end M4 Pro and M4 Max chips that need to be announced.

This isn't to say that Apple will for sure host an event this month. Rather, there is simply no reason that the iPad mini being announced early rules out an event.

What do you think? Will there be an event this month, or simply more press releases?

absolutely. the event will be about the M-series of processors, mostly the M4... so the iPad mini with the A17 Pro was a confusing product for the event.

I think we will see either tomorrow or next week the M4 MacBook Pro's unveiled via press release like the iPad mini was today. And the redesigned M4 & M4 Pro Mac mini along with the M4 Pro MBP will be delayed or pushed to March or the Spring when they will hold a show and officially announce the M4 Pro & M4 Max chips and show off a redesigned Mac mini.
And I think it was always the plan that way. The Mac mini seems to be on a 2-3 year release cycle and this month seems to be too soon.

Apple will likely repeat its formula for the M1, M2, and M3 series of MacBook Pros — create a video and send review units to publications. But it will not invite the media to its campus for a screening and hands-on. Does this count as an event? It's more than a press release.

The event is still happening. They didn't want to show this embarrassing update during an event, so they pushed it out via press release. It just means they have plenty of other content for the event.

well considering ALL the so called analysts being paid to guess this stuff, we’re proven to be totally wrong today, again, with the iPad Mini 7 launching, I won’t be surprised if they are utterly wrong about everything else too. And we have no event and Apple updated its entire Pro range early next year. Oh but they update the iMac to M4 next week with another press release.

Don't tell me you were seriously expecting supply chain analysts to also correctly predict how Apple would launch iPad mini 7.
