iPad Mini didn't need an event because they've already had one for the two main iPads earlier, and the Mini is just a smaller version basically. For Mac though, an event is due because it's been a year and they potentially have several lines to refresh (iMac and MacBook as usual, and perhaps Mini, Studio, and Pro, overdue for an update). Also, Mac is an Apple icon: it would be strange to have held 2024 events for iPad, iPhone, and Apple Watch, but not Mac.

Nope.. I think they are going to do a daily release of a new product like they have in the past... with the ending being the release candidate of 18.1 and the release date of it being the launch date of the new products
Do you want to be real money on this ? I’m down

TLDR;

October Event Possibility: Apple might hold an October event despite the iPad mini 7 announcement, as it did last year with a Mac-focused event.

• Potential Mac Updates: Rumors suggest significant Mac lineup updates, including new MacBook Pro and iMac models with the M4 series of chips and a redesigned Mac mini.

• Reason for Event: Apple might want to highlight the redesigned Mac mini, which is expected to be nearly as small as an Apple TV and feature two front-facing USB-C ports.

lets be real here, there is no way to having a wowing event on yearly basis. I think things should get relaxed and get spec bumps and bug fixes for 3 years and product updates like every 3 years. Electronics extremely matured.

On the other hand, Apple already unveiled the standard M4 chip in the iPad Pro earlier this year, whereas the M3 chip was unveiled at the October event last year. Still, there are the higher-end M4 Pro and M4 Max chips that need to be announced.
Can you imagine, what a surprise it would be, if Apple annonunces, that there wont any Max chips at all and the Mac Pro will be discontinued? 😉

- A17 Chip (instead of M series).
- Fat bezels.
- 12 MP back camera.
- Zero design changes.

Just straight up embarrassing.

There should be an event to kick Tim's ass out the door by the end of October.
These are the specs for the M4 A17 MacBook Pro, right?

I'd say we get something in-between. If it were only for chip updates, a press release would be sufficient. But with the Mac mini redesign they probably want to show it with some bells and whistles.

That being said, the iPad May event was just 40 minutes. And if I remember correctly that one wasn't even a stream, they just dropped the video on youtube. So maybe we do get a few more press releases, maybe for a new Apple TV and stuff, but for the mac updates they'll upload a short 20min presentation

A „virtual event“ is not an event, as it lacks interaction. It is a videographed press release.

Macs have a hard time under the regime of Tim Apple. They are harder to produce, more expensive for the company to maintain and offer lower revenue.
That’s a lot of no-go for a company sailed under a flag of operation cost.

Therefore: no event for Macs.

I would expect there would still be a Mac event this year to introduce the new M4 and faster variant based devices.

The marketing team may have decided that adding a non M-series based iPad to that event would distract/dilute the message or just simply make the event too long.

The silence about the event might just be them waiting for confirmation of the US English Apple Intelligence release date so they can announce it at the same time rather than releasing the Macs with Apple Intelligence coming soon.

Yes and no.

Yes because they’ll want to focus on Apple intelligence for the iPhone. It’ll be a 2nd wave of marketing.

So I suspect that there will be a 20 minute or so video released.

No to it being an actual event for loads of reporters to turn up to.

I suspect that there will be media briefing events around the time that the video is released, but smaller scale than last month - ie events held on the west and east coasts, London etc.

If we are going to see a new Mac Mini form factor and potentially a new Mac Studio then yes we will have an event. It will be the same tired format as before though - lots of graphs/charts.

No. with the Russian MacBook leak they have cancelled the event. they probably recorded it already but will not have an event.

just press releases. minor updates anyway, like the boring one today.

Welcome to Tim's Apple.
Boring, disappointing incremental updates with focus on increasing margins.
Depends on your PoV... if you're a tech fan and user yes then boring.. but if you're a heavy/institutional investor... a 0.05% margin increase will cause a diaper change far more than a new MacBook Pro (unless that directly causes said margin increase... if it lowers it in any way then it's disappointing).

Silver lining is that I can now go to a 4-5 year upgrade cycle from a prior 2-3...

Apple has held an October event in three out of the past four years, but is an event this month still likely after today's surprise iPad mini 7 announcement?

scary-fast-apple-event.jpg

While some Apple enthusiasts believe that the iPad mini 7 being unveiled in a press release today means that Apple is unlikely to hold an October event this year, the announcement does not entirely rule out the possibility. Last year, Apple held a 30-minute virtual event on October 30 to introduce new MacBook Pro and iMac models with the M3 series of chips, so another Mac-focused event this October would not be out of the ordinary.

This month's updates to the Mac lineup are rumored to be more significant than those announced a year ago. In addition to updated MacBook Pro and iMac models with the M4 series of chips, the Mac mini is expected to receive its biggest redesign since 2010, and that might be something that Apple wants to highlight on video during a virtual event this month. According to rumors, the new Mac mini will be nearly as small as an Apple TV, and feature two front-facing USB-C ports, which would make it look more like the Mac Studio.

On the other hand, Apple already unveiled the standard M4 chip in the iPad Pro earlier this year, whereas the M3 chip was unveiled at the October event last year. Still, there are the higher-end M4 Pro and M4 Max chips that need to be announced.

This isn't to say that Apple will for sure host an event this month. Rather, there is simply no reason that the iPad mini being announced early rules out an event.

What do you think? Will there be an event this month, or simply more press releases?

I don't think they should however given the recent trend I wouldn't be surprised.

Odd that's there's been no supply chain leaks of the new Mac mini, given all the interest in the device.

Maybe it doesn't exist (lol).
I’m thinking there is not going to be a newly designed Mac Mini. Maybe the new product is a redesigned AppleTV that will support Apple Intelligence.

In matters such as these, one must consider the broader context, not just of the announcement, but of the delicate interplay between expectation and strategy, both of which are, of course, meticulously choreographed by the finest minds at Apple.

Now, the unveiling of the iPad Mini 7, while ostensibly a significant move, could be interpreted in any number of ways. It could, for instance, be a prelude to something grander—a curtain-raiser, if you will—intended to whet the appetites of consumers, while allowing Apple to maintain the air of suspense it so cherishes. Or, conversely, it might be a clever diversion, a sleight of hand, designed to shift attention from the true spectacle, which, if I may speculate, could still be forthcoming.

One must also account for the historical precedent. Apple has, in the past, been known to spring surprises, but equally, they are renowned for their penchant for tradition, for keeping October firmly within their repertoire of announcements. To abandon such a tradition would be, how should I put it, uncharacteristically unpredictable for a company that thrives on predictability—within the bounds of its own unpredictable genius, of course.

In short, whilst yesterdays announcement may alter the narrative slightly, I see no reason to assume that it precludes an event in October. Indeed, it might be said that the very act of releasing this iPad Mini suggests that something rather more significant may be on the horizon. One can never quite rule anything out, can one? After all, the art of managing expectations is not so much about providing answers as it is about ensuring one always has more questions.

So, to answer your question—yes, an October event is, in all likelihood, still on the cards. But then again, as is often the case, it remains subject to the infinite wisdom of Apple’s higher echelons, which, like government policy, are best left to unfold in their own mysterious, yet thoroughly planned, way.

So True!!!
I miss the live Apple events when Steve Jobs was still with us. Steve had real enthusiasm and loved sharing new products and technologies with attendees and watchers. His enthusiasm and excitement is what made Apple Apple. It’s part of what made me fall in love with Apple products. And, now there are days I feel imprisoned in their ecosystem.

Not to worry, because the ALL NEW iPad Mini is here! It has the fastest, most powerful, most capable iPad Mini processor Apple has ever released in an iPad mini. And Apple didn't stop there. Now, the iPad Mini is BUILT FOR APPLE INTELLIGENCE! Apple Intelligence takes AI to a whole new level, offering a level of customization, responsiveness, and efficiency never before seen an iPad Mini! First thing I heard was Tim’s voice when I read this. And it’s crazy because word for word this would so be him! You should’ve put though “And we know you’re going to absolutely LOVE it!” 🤣

“We are so excited to bring this to you! And now, a new finish! You may enjoy the gloss or new matte black finishes to blend into your workplace decor. The new iPad Mini is available for order today with deliveries beginning Nov 4, just after the return to Standard Time in the US. Prices begin at $2999 and include an incredible 8GB of super fast RAM for all your complex computing workflows.”

Oh boy, be still my heart.

There will be no event. The new laptops will be released via press release. Depending on your view, Apple will, either quite rightly, or cowardly, keep its tail behind its legs until Apple Intelligence finally ships.
