Don't tell me you were seriously expecting supply chain analysts to also correctly predict how Apple would launch

Sorry just read your post properly…. And no I absolutely do not lol. Mark Gurmen is particularly useless, he stated no iPad Mini 6 would launch on the very same day it launched.. and never once stated a Mini 7 would launch via press release this week, instead he cited it being launched at an October Apple event..

Predicting when Apple launches its new devices are the one thing these paid analysts have got wrong time and time again. I really don’t know why they bother to be honest.

The Pro mouse looked amazing… but yeah - no scroll wheel was painful even back then. No right click was fine because as a grizzled old Mac user, your right hand hovered over the command key at all times.

Oh it was cool sure

I used them all

My hand will never forgive me!

Well the iPad 10 was released during a press release.
I’m calling it right now and saying the M4 series of Mac’s is coming tomorrow

There will be an Apple Event, most likely they will announce it next week Monday or Tuesday. I can't remember a time that Apple has made a redesign to a product and not introduced it through some type of event. The release of the M4 MacBook my have added a small dent in the planning of the Event to which they are working on ways to rectify.

Apple having or not having an event isn't something to get so worked up about. If they do, that's great. If they don't, no worries.

Life goes on.

Apple has held an October event in three out of the past four years, but is an event this month still likely after today's surprise iPad mini 7 announcement?

scary-fast-apple-event.jpg

While some Apple enthusiasts believe that the iPad mini 7 being unveiled in a press release today means that Apple is unlikely to hold an October event this year, the announcement does not entirely rule out the possibility. Last year, Apple held a 30-minute virtual event on October 30 to introduce new MacBook Pro and iMac models with the M3 series of chips, so another Mac-focused event this October would not be out of the ordinary.

This month's updates to the Mac lineup are rumored to be more significant than those announced a year ago. In addition to updated MacBook Pro and iMac models with the M4 series of chips, the Mac mini is expected to receive its biggest redesign since 2010, and that might be something that Apple wants to highlight on video during a virtual event this month. According to rumors, the new Mac mini will be nearly as small as an Apple TV, and feature two front-facing USB-C ports, which would make it look more like the Mac Studio.

On the other hand, Apple already unveiled the standard M4 chip in the iPad Pro earlier this year, whereas the M3 chip was unveiled at the October event last year. Still, there are the higher-end M4 Pro and M4 Max chips that need to be announced.

This isn't to say that Apple will for sure host an event this month. Rather, there is simply no reason that the iPad mini being announced early rules out an event.

What do you think? Will there be an event this month, or simply more press releases?

Since they are no longer live and just video presentations now, I could take it or leave it. They just lose something when they're so produced like the are now.

I think the Russian-reviewed/released M4 MacBook Pro will be next to get released via press release. Especially as the Russians seem to have pallets of them already on sale. A drip press release cycle one after the other. Perhaps via Russian Facebook posts. Apple always keeping it classy like that.

Well yes I do, is that too much to ask considering they endlessly go on about when events will happen and what will be launched at them? Mark Gurmen is particularly useless, he stated no iPad Mini 6 would launch on the very same day it launched.. and never once stated a Mini 7 would launch via press release this week.

If these so called analysts with insider knowledge can’t guess any product launches accurately, they should shut the hell up trying to predict them in the first place.
Supply chain analysts don't talk with Apple sources. They talk with vendors who build Apple's stuff. That's how they are able to figure out what goes into these devices to a certain degree and also figure out a time frame. They do that by knowing how long a lead time Apple needs between starting mass production and product release. If a supplier says they started mass production, these analysts will know with some accuracy how many weeks or months before Apple will accumulate enough supply for a release. They might be able to estimate what month or quarter a release happens, but that's their limitation.

Without sources inside Apple, there's no way they can know how these things get released. Gurman has sources inside Apple probably, but people like Ming-Chi Kuo or Ross Young don't. Kuo and Young only have sources inside Apple's suppliers as supply chain analysts. As a display analyst, Young has sources with companies like Samsung, BOE, LG, and others who supply screens. None of those companies have insights into whether Apple's going to do an event or send out a press release.

Has Apple ever released an M chip or A-series chip without an event? They'll have an event and talk about the M4, for instance, which is what they did with the iPad Pros. They'll hold a separate event when talking about the architecture of an M3 Pro or M3 Max or M2 Ultra, but I don't think they've ever just released a new chip without some detailed description at an event.

Agreed, I usually don't even watch them now other than perhaps a certain segment here or there (usually after the fact if at all)

If there’s an event, there should be a tweet about “event has been filmed in the Apple Park.”

My take :
If it’s just about M4 : Press releases.

If there are M4 Pro, M4 Max products : of course there’s gonna be a special an announcement.

I am looking forward to a Mac event and buying a new Mac mini.

Honestly … Why a keynote for just bum specs … I am looking forward to the release of Mac Mini “Mini” though … As for Apple intelligence I am not concerned due to my geographical position and I am not that impressed compared to competition especially graphic generated images … happy with my AI subscriptions so far that are not limited but let’s see … Who knows

They need to have something for Mac updates, but also their standard iPad. They have not updated the base iPad in over 2 years. They certainly need to update it to support Apple Intelligence, but I think the price point is going to be a challenge for Apple with the 8GB minimum requirement for AI.

I do still expect an event, simply because of the redesign of the Mac mini. I don’t think Apple has ever released a redesigned product with just a press release, there’s always a video / event.

Also this will be the first Macs with M4 series chips, that calls for a video.

As others have said, this will be the actual release of Apple Intelligence, plus there’s still a chance for something new to announce with that. Personally I would love for something like the HomePods being able to use continuity from a Mac to access Apple Intelligence, but definitely not holding my breath for that.

I also expect the iPad 11th gen to also be released through a press release like the mini today, either this week or next. Which brings me back to how I felt before, Apple should’ve absolutely just released the entire iPad lineup at the same time. I do not understand why the saved the iPad mini and iPad 11 for October. Just seemed so pointless.

there have been times where Apple releases new products once a week, before a more significant event. I feel a Mac event is coming.

- A17 Chip (instead of M series).
- Fat bezels.
- 12 MP back camera.
- Zero design changes.

Just straight up embarrassing.

There should be an event to kick Tim's ass out the door by the end of October.
The MacRumors posters that despise Tim Cook really despise Tim Cook. Heh.

I don't have a horse in this race, but watching this in here keeps me amused.
