Still having crappy connectivity on 12.1.1 with my XS Max, Verizon. I was visiting my mother in the hospital and her doctor called me there repeatedly on my cell and the call failed each time after a few seconds. I thought it was just the building, and went out to make the call. However, back in the hospital today I tried calling my uncle from the same room and after 3 brief connections and “call failed” messages, I borrowed my son’s iPhone 6s, also on Verizon, called my uncle, no drops, no failures. At this point, I’m just disgusted and feeling like Apple has really screwed up these phones.

Hospitals are a tough environment for a cell phone. I have not had a cell phone get really good coverage in one over the years. I have usually had to connect to the hospitals WiFi.

I figured that that might be the case. But again, a 3-year old 6s fielded the call without a hitch on the first try.

Apple is going downhill with regards to quality. There little poubt fest with qualcomm and redesign of the antennas are the reason why reception issues exist.

Hi, I am creating this thread again as mine was merged but that large thread seems to talk about a different issue regarding signal. In my case I normally do not have any trouble with cell reception or dropped calls but, sometimes I look at my phone and realize it has no service at all, on places there should be no issues. I even activate airplane mode and turn it off and nothing, the only solution is to turn the phone off and then on. Other times if I wait long enough, close to an hour, the signal appears once again. Earlier I was told this latest firmware update addressed this problem, as it was software related, but I have already updated my phone and there has been no change.

Is anyone else experiencing something like this, and not only poor reception? I am starting to believe this is a hardware issue.

I have an iPhone XS Max

Common issue you can't fix bad hardware ! Hopefully Apple and Qualcomm make up so we get good RF with next years Iphones . This year is a disaster

So is this a problem of all iPhone XS Max? It will make no change trying to exchange the phone? If that's true Apple messed it up real bad

Not all as some would wish to convince, mine and many others work just fine. I have not had any issues or any dropped calls on my MAX.

If you can demonstrate your problem to the Apple store they my replace your phone.

This thread will likely get moved to the large thread as it is the same issue.

It doesn't do much unless you have esim issues or live in turkey...
Bummer. So it doesn't help that folks that are having reception problems. Is Apple still even acknowledging the reception issues? What are folks with reception issues currently doing to deal with their problem? Has everyone moved to iPhone 8's?

don't update, I did not have Wi-Fi problems before on my Max but now I definitely have horrible problems on it where half the time my wife is not even working at all. This patch was a bomb.

How did you update? I updated using iTunes on my MacBook and my phone is definitely better with the esim and physical data speeds. Esim is T-Mobile and nano sim is Verizon.

Thanks! This will be really tough because I only have problems once I go to an area with no cell reception and then come back. This won't be the place on the Apple Store or anywhere near.

Take screenshots of apps failing and log the timestamp. This is the process I did when troubleshooting with Apple and Verizon. After 12.1.1 my phones will reconnect to the network after being in poor service area, which is an improvement. However, I still have no data in several locations while the phone displays 1-2 bars. I'm beginning to think my issue is related to switching to Verizon because I always had service in these locations with AT&T. I was hoping to get the at least the same coverage or better with Verizon. I'll probably switch back to AT&T in the new year.

I'm not sure that is Apple's problem...
If it is not Apple's problem, whose problem do you think it is? Do you think it's Intel's problem?

It does not have to do with Verizon or ATT. It maybe a problem regarding switching bands/frequencies where Verizon and ATT use different frequencies. The real test on Verizon or ATT is to compare it to an iPhone 7 or an iPhone 8, then you are comparing apples to apples.

Are we testing modem capability or carrier service quality? I'm starting to think my problem is with Verizon in these specific locations. Three spots on the mid-peninsula in the Bay Area that are indoors. Otherwise, the phone performs fine since 12.1.1. I upgraded to the XS Max and Verizon at the same time. Previously, I had usable data in these location, but not perfect. I'm considering getting AT&T on eSim to do side by side comparison. That would be apples to apples in my book.

Mine seems to connect at 3g almost exclusively, I've not been using it due to eye strain issues but decided to give it a go and it sends almost all its time on 3g rather than 4g and I live in a 4g area and work in central London.

Not sure I have the energy to go through the same old reset network settings reset phone diagnosis.

Don't worry, you'll get used to it.

I have a 8 plus with intel modem.
My work phone is a SE with qualcomm modem.
Both on same networks.

The reception on my 8 plus intel is better than the qualcomm SE.

Can any of you qualcomm lovers explain this to me?

Basically there are a few people with real issues who are VERY vocal and a lot of people with no issues who don't say anything because they're happy with their phone. I'm a "happy" user, my wife and I have had no issues at all anywhere we've gone, no dropped calls, no data freeze, nothing.

I’ve really not noticed much difference between my 7 and my Xs as far as signal quality goes. My 7 was exceptional in all but a few cases and so has my Xs been. I’m on Verizon in the Madison, Wisconsin area. The only issue I had was with WiFi, but it turns out that it was my VPN app causing it. According to the Genius Bar at my local Apple Store, they see a lot of issues with that.

Not even close. There is a small number of people here who like to say the design is faulty because they can’t get a resolution with it. Most people are just enjoying their phones
