Worse, once this happens the phone is either slow to reacquire LTE or completely gives up
And that is a typical behavior of the Intel modem! That's what I had last year on the 8 Plus and X, both with Intel. Once I switched to the Qualcomm X, it was no longer the case. I have a feeling that the new XS has fallen victim of this very questionable combo: the new Intel modem and the new Apple antenna design. I have been toying with the idea of upgrading to the XS Max, but these intentions are completely shattered now that I'm reading how bad the reception is on the new iPhones.

Reading all of this has basically killed the little excitement I had for receiving and opening my new XS in a few days. I feel like I should just not open it if the reception is gonna be worse than my 8 Plus. I mean, what's the point of having a cellphone with no signal? LOL I won't be able to communicate with anyone.
Well...you can stare at the gorgeous screen and wonder where it all went wrong :)

Now that we all get garbage intel modems you will see verizon users complaining. Those of us who are AT&T users have been in this mess since the iPhone 7. Intel modems are HORRIBLE.

Hopefully Apple decides to design their own modem eventually because these modems are making me consider switching back to Samsung. If I can't get reception what good is this as a phone?

Hello, Guys I can confirm two iPhone XS Max here with only 1 bar signal speeds showing around 4.45mb
iPhone X 256GB With 4 bars signal speeds showing around 61.34mb.
Something is wrong with this year iPhone modem.

What kind of iPhone X? Verizon?

People need to start saying what iPhone X/Iphone 7/Iphone 8 they had because there are 2 versions, one with intel and one with qualcomm. If this new XS is worse than the Qualcomm X that is expected, but it should AT LEAST be faster than the Intel X.

And in 6 months we'll get a redesigned XS to fix this ala redesigned iPhone 4 back in the day (how they fixed the antenna and released it for Verizon)

Verizon phone tried the iPhone X Verizon sim card into both MAX same bloody crap signal/speeds.
Both MAX phones tested in the same work environment area today even tested at home in the mornings and evening and 3am same useless speeds while my iPhone X is happy getting speeds like 60mb - 80mb all day.

Over 9 months with the iPhone X not even one dropped call MAX I had over 3 drop calls in two days.

I doubt it. They didn't fix the intel modem in the iPhone 7 and 8. At least you could buy a verizon or carrier-less version with the good modem back then. Now we are all screwed thanks to Intel.

What we will probably get, if anything, is software limits on all the older phones to make them work as poorly as the newer phones.

No issues with cell service on my XS. I'm on Verizon.

Move around to different places. Turn off the screen but not the phone itself, and open it again, signal drops, internet not connected.

The issue here is not a speed issue. But rather an inconsistent connection.
