I actually dig that apple tried it. It's good to try and push the envelope. Here, i think they pushed a bit early, and hope that they are deft enough to understand that, and provide something a bit more traditional in design for a while longer while it's still needed.

Sorry - I hate this image, but it seems too appropriate if you expect that Apple will realize that the MP6,1 is "Cube 2".

You realize you are insulting right. That you come off as a giant douchebag of immense proportions. Like, think of the kind of douche the stay puff marshmallow woman would use, that's you. Your snide sarcastic an frankly full of bunk comments. If you were a person of deed and not just insult, you'd abide by your earlier comment and not be a part of this thread. But you MUST, MUST have your obnoxious comments validated here. You NEED to be a negative prick. You cannot live a day or a minute without being a jerk.

Well, congratulations. You've achieved it! You are a total and complete jerk! Congrats!

look.. the computer is designed to be used with mass storage being outside the case.. you, at the very least, recognize this, right?

No, what you're doing is selectively picking and choosing and ignoring other parts of what people say to serve your own personal verbal masturbatory delights. It's not just about storage. Yes, you can have a hideous snake pit of external drives hanging off the trashcan that destroys the aesthetic design goals of the trashcan mac itself. But you can't have a better video card. Or more video cards. And you can't have USB 3.1 if you want it. And you can't have multiple graphics cards if you need them. And you can't have a super fast capture card if you need it.

The feeling is mutual because your willful blindness shows you to be what you are, a self indulgent troll.

You arrogant, insulting little troll. Now you are the definitional specialist. YOU do not get to dictate whether people here are offended at you calling them haters. And that is clear as day what you did. That you are oblivious to how insulting you are, is just evidence of what a self absorbed little tool and troll you are. You do not get to tell people if they get to feel insulted by your calling them haters. That is not for you to decide. Or to decide how they should define it. You get to cast the label on them, but then you have to deal with your insulting behavior and the ramifications of going around this forum, being a bully, and calling everyone a hater.

You are rather thick. First, you're beyond moronic if you think I'm going to share what my needs are with someone I have zero respect for. I wouldn't trust you to recommend a toilet paper you'd be happy to wipe with, much less anything I have a need for. Second, I provided you with details on flexibility that would be welcome to many professionals. I won't bother to restate them, you ignored them once, I have no doubt you will continue to do so. Third, of course those that went through the analysis of getting a 6,1 are likely happy with it, because they are a self selecting group. But they do not represent all pro users, but are instead a subset. A subset that is ok with static graphic cars and 1TB max of slow internal mass storage (or ok with a design that fails at it's own missing by requiring a huge number of ugly cables and boxes). Regardless, I have no doubt that the 40% or so are quite happy with the 6,1 and for them, I'm genuinely happy. However, it doesn't answer for another segment of the mac pro market, one that has been served by apple for decades with the cMP and it's like, that are no longer happy and served by the design of the nMP.

A concept that you are either incapable of grasping, or more than likely, have you own peculiar personality defects, that you need to argue that segment, insultingly, into being insignificant haters.
jesus h christ man

I really think that MVC nailed it - you're spouting nonsense to get some replies to go over the line and get the thread closed.

And your shift key is still broken - have it looked into, because you look stupid if you don't use standard English.

People only have themselves to blame if they can't control themselves, don't shift the blame to someone else.

God you're such an insulting troll. Exactly what have you done for the mac community? Huh? Any big contributions you can speak of? MVC provides a service that many benefit from? What's your big contribution? If you don't have one, have the state of mind to understand how unimpressively your petty comments look.
idk, i feel i contribute.. i give feedback to apple re: OS X (like, the kind of feedback which is back&forth instead of me just emailing them some wishes).. i let apple monitor my work sessions.. etc.

i'm also highly involved in beta testing some pro software (3 applications).. 2 of which have recently come to market and one which is soon to be released.. for example:

Hi Jeff,

Interested in coming to Seattle for three days?

We're planning on having a three day session in Seattle on June 30 - July 2 [edit-2014] to focus on Mac Rhino usability and would love to have you join us.

The current plan is to have several of our support/training staff get together to create new models for training purposes. [edit], [edit], and myself would also be in there during this time to help and record any issues that come up with respect to usability of the product. It would be great to have someone from our user community join us to help give a perspective "outside" of the McNeel staff and your name immediately popped to the top since you've been such an active and helpful user in the Mac Rhino community. We would like to have you just come in and model in Rhino on your current projects so we can see if there are any things we can tweak to improve the process.

We want to try and find general problems with modeling in Mac Rhino and make any workflow issues glaringly obvious to us developers.

Let me know if you're interested and we'll start coordinating travel arrangements.

------------

stuff like that.. maybe not a huge contribution but i do it on my own time & dime (other than travel costs etc)..

hundreds or probably more like thousands of hours i've contributed in order to improve usability and capability on cad for mac platform or with OS X itself.

i also do some applescript_ing and python coding for specialized tasks which i share freely via interwebs.

(just fwiw.. i mean, i realize you'll probably find a way to call me a troll for typing this but whatever)

Wow, you report bugs and help get those resolved. Way to put a lot on the line. You know, invest in a business, in inventory. Really a lot of risk there. Jeez, I must be a super hero with all the bugs I submit and that I've helped apple bring to resolution. I can't wait for my parade.

Not a troll. just delusional to even have the nerve to equate submitting and helping with bug reports with actually starting a business, risking money to serve a community. That you would try and have the cast iron delusional balls to then be passive aggressive about it is totally consistent with everything else you post.

You're probably right. But it depends on how bad the feedback gets. Get it to the level of antenna/bend gate and apple is forced to respond.

The pro's really do have a lot more power than they think. If the press get behind this theme, and if the pros give enough voice, it could move the dial. Lot of big ifs to be sure. But I guess I'm slightly more optimistic than perhaps I have good reason to be. And readily grant you have the stronger assertion/argument here.

right. that's what I do. I report bugs.
sigh

I fly like a bug around the country to tell devs their software is buggy.. and brag about it.

you really have me dialed in.

I didn't call you stupid - I said that your failure to follow basic English grammar rules makes you look stupid.
you should hear me talk.
I use lots of slang and lots of made up words.

idk.. book smart and intelligence don't always go hand in hand

(edit) not meaning to say i'm intelligent per se.. just sayin is all

See how it feels to have your efforts belittled. Now you're getting it. :)

Really, get your shift key fixed. You do yourself a disservice by ignoring it.

And I love that you messed up and capitalized the first person pronoun in "I use lots...". Maybe you're hearing my message after all. ;)

How about I just respond via iPhone when talking to you, Aiden. Would that Mac you feel a little better?

Edit- Doh! Stupid autocorrect

Just going to answer the original question on this thread...

Here is what I think, After having an iPad Pro for about 4 days, I quickly learned that I didn't like the bigger screen. It is very useful that I can run full sized iPad app side by side, however, I didn't have the need for such an expensive tablet. My Air 2 did just fine, and if I need a bigger screen, I have my Mac (15 inch). I understand some people would like a tablet that big and would find it useful, but for the average consumer, this thing is a flop.

I was in love with my 2008 Mac Pro. Upped it over time with the Radeon 7950, 16 GB RAM and SSD.
Later I made the choice to go iMac as the nMP couldn't fit my needs.

Does anyone have sales-figures regarding the adoption of the nMP?
i.e. how many cMP users have upgraded to the nMP, and how many have ditched it (either gone to Windows-based WorkStations or iMac)

I think that may be another poll to argue over. For the record, I have never seen a Mac Pro Mini being used outside an Apple store. For my part, I built a replacement Hackintosh for my MP 3,1 but ended up still using the MP too, it just keeps on keeping on.

Oh god. This broken record again. Can you stop with this rubbish please? You think people come here deliberately to bad mouth Apple products when they could actually be spending time on themselves, I mean really?
Get a grip man.
You spend, (in the case of Apple products), lots of good money on something you then have good reason to vent. That’s how it is with premium Apple, (their description), products, if you don’t like us I’m sure there are a number of fanboy forums you can frequent.
Definitely YES, I think exactly that, and I could name every single serial complainer here. But then I would be banned again, so I let this game to your imagination....

Is the new Mac Pro a Failure for traditional Mac Creative and Professional customers?
The old Mac Pro had plenty of storage capacity, i.e., bays and some GPU options, this new (not so new now) version has no drive bay expandability. The expectation is to use TB external storage. The problem there is, that medium hasn't exactly taken off and its extremely expensive. So instead of upgrading the storage inexpensive with internal drives, people need to shell out a lot of money for expensive external storage (if they need fast external storage).

I'd say its a poor solution for many people and Apple miscalculated in what it thought it would be good for. The fact that it hasn't been upgraded/refreshed speaks volumes. The current 5k iMacs out perform the Mac Pro in many ways as well.

External Thunderbolt raid drives tend to be for the pro market and are priced accordingly. It should not be cost prohibitive to people who make their living using one and tend to charge a premium price for their services. The average consumer tend to stick to cheaper prices ( slower interfaces ) for external drives so USB3 should be all that they need.

Short term the 5K iMac may in fact out perform the Mac Pro. Long term use even the 4 core Mac Pro will be faster due to thermal throttling of the iMac due to overheating. Most likely due to QuickSync that the Xeon Processors don't have.

Mass adoption of Thunderbolt is not going to be as big as other standards such as USB. Thunderbolt is mainly for the pro market who usually need faster speed. USB is mainly for the mainstream consumer market which is good enough.

Nice try, show a picture of the mezzanine card to imply that PCIe won't be supported.

But they are even for pro's. My boss gives me a budget and I have to live within that dollar amount.

Here is a personal example; I tried to substitute a 2012 2.6 quad-core mini for my 2010 Mac Pro 3.2 quad. I bought a four-disk Thunderbay 4 from OWC. It turned out to be a fantastic product that was solidly built and started up, slept and shut down perfectly with the mini.

It also turned out to be the most incredibly noisy device I have ever owned. The fan was very quiet but the noise of the four HDDs sitting essentially naked on the desk was just beyond obnoxious. The same drives back in the vault that is my current 2012 MP can barely be heard. If I had a couple Thunderbay 4s plugged into a nMP I would have to throw a mattress over them. Inside storage rules.

That's rather conclusory. You're defining the pro market as those that are price insensitive. That's at best, your own definition, assertion and opinion.

The pro market has always been filled with freelancers and independents for Apple, and they are quite price sensitive, so spending their own money on lots of expensive thunderbolt for that segment is a problem. Moreover, it's an ugly and inelegant solution.

And large parts of the pro market have voiced their displeasure with thunderbolt as a solution, actually, by this poll, the majority. In part as it's speed handicapped compared to PCI, in part because of expense, in part because it's simply inelegant when paired with the design philosophy of the very attractive nature of the trashcan which begs not to be tethered octopus like to lots of ugly storage bricks.
