I genuinely don’t see how the notch can go in terms of hardware. Where would those sensors and camera go then?

It has never bothered or hindered me in any way. It would be cool to have ALL screen, but not at the cost of sensors and a front facing camera.

As soon as I held my X I knew it was a non issue for me personally

That's usually what a fanboy would say. God forbid that someone point out a flaw with the Mother Ship...

It's not a flaw though. It's a design and functionality choice. You don't like it yet you like the notch on the Essential PH1. That's kind of odd but to each their own. That's not a slam on the PH1 as I personally think it's a great looking phone as well.

Apple said they tested the under screen print readers and didn't like them or want to use them. The notch is the future of iPhones. It may shrink a tiny bit over time but I don't foresee it going anywhere. Come Sept 2018, if the fairly solid rumors are true, it's going to be all notch'ed out phones so I guess those who loathe it will be moving away from Apple and the iPhone.

The only other option would be for Apple to copy and mimmic the Galaxy, Pixel XL and LG phones and have a bezel on top and the bottom that's proportionate in size. Apple will never put the reader on the back.

faceID and gestures are the future of the iPhones. To accomplish this, with as much screen as possible, Apple went with the notch. The never-notchers are gonna have to look elsewhere for their future phone purchases..

FaceID is a solution to a problem that need not have existed. LOL
What problem did FaceID solve?

Put the existing fingerprint scanner on the back, extend the screen out to the edges without an ugly notch. Problem solved. haha
This is apple, not android silly :)

As for true depth camera... you mean portrait mode on the front facing camera?
No, I mean the true depth camera.

I don't know, maybe I am not vain enough to worry about perfect lighting effects when I take hundreds of pictures of MYSELF. ;-)
Me neither. But you and I both know the true depth camera is much more ;)

You ask a good question. I think the only thing we will see with the notch, is a reduction or minimalized look for the time being. But the sensors and camera/speaker are all integrated in that area, and they have to somehow coexist with each other.

And that's why the notch was necessary. I am not a fan, but understand why it' there. The notch will shrink over time, as hardware is made smaller. And if I am being honest, other than watching video, the notch really is a non issue.

Steve Jobs would never let the notch fall into our hands. There’s just no way.

It’s ugly. Doesn’t conform to simple exits aesthetics. Looks so off. Not clean. A total distraction.

FaceID is a terrible future. Talk about invasion of privacy. My god. Especially if you’re a parent. Do you want your kids face in a camera 24/7?

Absolute disgust.
It’s the future

Get used to it

Expect android phones to get it soon

Android phones have had it for years. I also got rid of the X because of face ID. Not ready yet. Fingerprint sensor is still a faster way to get into a phone unless you have the One Plus 5t.

On the bright side, the negativity will start to die down as the haters move on to Android. The notch is all Apple will be doing in short order so I'd assume, based on reading these threads and posts, that many will never buy another iPhone going forward. Look for them on Samsung forums complaining about bloatware, battery life ect in the coming months.. LOL

With my Day to day use, I am also approaching this line of thinking. FaceID just fails too many times for it to be useful (for me) and in many cases has me wishing I had TouchID. FaceID seems to always fail when I need to get into my phone, either due to distance, or the way its held, or a plethora of other reasons not known to me. I really love FaceId when it is used to authenticate me within apps. It excels in this area. I am hoping that we see an improved FaceID this year.

This is why I don’t understand why so many people think notch should just be “gone”.

If more folks were like you and did research then they would know why the notch is necessary.

Yeah... I firmly believe that most of the rants, tantrums and complaints are from people who don't own or who've never actually used the X for a period of time. If they did use one then they probably only played with one in a store for a few minutes. Most actual owners are happy with the phone. Some actual owners have complaints sure, buy the majority are happy with it best I can tell..

Why would anyone need to own something before deciding they don’t want it? If you don’t like the design or certain functions why on earth would you buy it?

I decided not to buy the X before it even came out based on the form and gen 1 functions ( price was irrelevant) so bought an 8 instead.

They’ll also be many people who bought the X regardless, were unsure but confirmation bias will kick in to convince them that the £1000+ was well spent.

I dunno, not buying is one thing but throwing online tantrums about it and hating on something you've never owned is a bit odd? Maybe it's just me.................

While I understand you have no issue with the notch and you enjoy your X, is there something wrong with people having an objective criticism to an Apple product ?? other than a few comments most people put there reasons across as to why they are not keen on certain design aspects but even this is branded as hate.

You shouldn't need to have to own the device, if you can't stand the looks of the device why on earth would you buy it ?? Although I hate to use analogies, this is like saying you can't dislike living in a yellow house unless you paint your walls yellow and give it a try as all the the people with yellow houses really like it. Ok it's a childish analogy but it gets the point across (maybe).

I mentioned this before, Apple have replaced large bezels which are now considered dated with something else that has a different set of problems. The X is meant to perform better as the flagship iphone in every way over the previous models and not just in certain circumstances. If a person doesn't use the device in a way that the notch is an issue this doesn't mean that the problem doesn't exist. The X when used in full screen landscape mode has a portion of the content missing, this is not subjective but a fact. It was marketed as an immersive experience by Apple and clearly some people disagree.

While not aimed at any one in particular here, I find this brand defence quite strange, I am happy to discuss any faults of any products or services I own as this is how things improve. I also think that the current problem with the notch could be solved with software. If the notch ever disappears I wonder how many will shout and stamp their feet that they want it back ??

It’s gotta be rooted in jealousy or just plain trollism or maybe mental illness.

Yeah it's really quite odd to say the least.. If I don't like something I just don't buy it. If I went to every online forum and complained about something I didn't own or buy then I'd not have any time for life in general. LOL
