Numbers are easily manipulated to fit into a narrative. Shipped is meaningless because no one know how many are collecting dust on a shelf. Sold is somewhat meaningful but what's the profit margin on each sale? Profit is really all that matters to a business..

I mean you can sell 1 million doodads @ a $1 profit and claim we sold one million or you can sell 100,000 doodads Plus @ a $100 profit.

Based on the doodad sales one can claim a sales number and the other can claim profit.

I don’t know why Apple are different? They are in a competitive market where profit and sales go hand in hand to measure current and future success. Consumer outreach is just as important as cash coming in and that goes for any company competing in a global market. Nobody is saying Apple have had a bad year or are doomed, but they are evidently not immune to the downturn in the smartphone market due to lower sales, despite them posting a healthy profit. All OEMs have noticed a shift so it’s affected everybody to some degree.

I agree.. My point was and is that's its easy to skew the numbers to fit into anyone narrative.

I personally don't own any Apple stock so I couldn't care less how much they make or what their profit margin is. I also don't care how many of this, that or the other they sold. I know for a fact they sold at least one X and that was to ---> Me! :D

I don’t care either in all honesty as like yourself I don’t own Apple stock and am currently using an iPhone from 2015.

I just think pointing out profit is not the whole story has to be done as Apple are a mass consumer brand and it’s naive to think they don’t care about the shrinking market. They all care and will all be planning to improve as a result.

Jeez, people are still talking about

Good thing the X is not a tv.

The way I look at it, the notch is a controversial issue for some. But like anything that’s new and technological related, some don’t like change. And this was a big change for Apple design wise. The way I see it, either somebcan accept it for what it is or you consider another smart phone if the notch does not appeal to others. Because it obviously will be here for the next two generations of iPhones allegedly.

I would still like to stress, if the notch is not there, where should Apple put all the sensors and the camera? People just like to complain without thinking through it.

The funny, or sad part, depending on how you look at it, is that it's really only controversial to people who don't own it. Most who actually have the X are happy with with. My guess is 90% of the tantrums about the notch are form non owners, those who played with one in a store for a few minutes or saw a photo of one and decided they didn't like it..

They would be in exactly the same place.

And it would look like every other recent phone out there. hates would accuse Apple of copycatting the The Galaxy, Pixel 2 XL, LG ect and would have bezels top and bottom.. PASS.... I'll take the notch thank you...

To be quite honest I don't really care what "haters" think, I have no issue with companies copying from each other as they have always done.

Me either but the phone would look run of the mill and just like every other out there. The notch is fine and most who actually own the X and use it daily find it to be a non issue.. At least not the issue the non owning complainers would have you believe.

You seem to be stuck in this idea that only owners can have a valid opinion of the X. The only thing you cant try out in a shop is face ID, I did buy an X and being truthfully honest all the things that I thought may annoy did, but I was wiling to give it go. With that in mind owning the X really hasn't effected how I view the device and I think this may be the same for a lot of the "haters".

Not every country has the right to return the device, in fact where I purchased it you couldn't return it. So it's not simply a case of giving it a go and if you don't like it it wont cost you anything.

So how many other forums do you visit and post in for products you don't even own where you call them out as flawed?

I'm not a fan of the Bose speakers (I like Sonos) so should I run along and join a Bose forum to tell them how terrible their products are? I suppose I could because I have listened to them in a store for a few minutes but I've never actually owned the product.. Might be a weeeeeeeeeee bit odd and strange for me to do so, no?

I have mentioned this before, most people on these forums have a general interest in Apple and have multiple Apple products so they post comments on the X. If someone just joins this forum that has never owned an Apple product and had no intention of buying an X anyway, yes I would view that as just being a troll.

Clearly that isn't the case though and any critique of any Apple product seems to upset people.

Criticism from an actual owner is cool beans in my book.. From someone who played with one in a store or saw a photo? Ahh, nope.... There is a world for that and it starts with a T and ends with an L with a ROL in between.... :D

Fair enough, well I did own one and I didn't like it. The difference is if someone states they like the device I will not state back they are wrong but merely point out the reasons why I dislike it, to me this is reasoned debate. The reality is though the responses I will get back I may as well just be saying " Da X sucks" (I am not saying this !! lol)

To people that want the highest screen real estate-to-body size ratio, the notch is the way to go and is a non-issue while using the device.

Yeah that solution basically wastes the space next to the sensors and Apple utilised it by pushing the status icons in that position.

Which do you think is a better implementation?!

From a purely design point of view , I prefer the S9 design.

As a long time iPhone user I can happily admit Samsung have produced nicer looking phones for the past 2 years now in my opinion of course. The S9 is a stunner and I wish I’d had the same first impressions of the X. For X owners who have spent a lot of money on the device, the view will obviously be different.

Now if you could get iOS on that S9 I think we’d perhaps have a perfect phone lol.

I personally think the screen is plenty big enough. Whether another phone gets an extra 4mm or not for me is by the by as I use my iPhone mostly one handed anyway.

We view the S9 differently.. I see it as a run of the mill - same old, same old design used by several other phones like the Pixel XL, the LG and the soon to be new Sony.... The X is unique...

I'm not saying the S9 is ugly, it's a gorgeous phone that just so happens to look like everything else out there at the moment.

The X is no more unique based on aesthetics. All the devices you mention have their own design quirks to ensure they look different from each other when you really start to compare. A slightly different shaped screen doesn’t suddenly reinvent the wheel, it’s just Apples interpretation to squeeze the technology into the device.

If you feel it’s significantly unique then all the power to you. It’s part of your product satisfaction and I can’t argue with your personal view. As an outsider who doesn’t own any of the current flagships, I view it a little more objectively I think.

If I didn't like the X I'd sell it in a split second, at a loss, and move on... I am not saying I like it because I have $$ sunk into it, I am saying I like it because I really do...

The S9 is a nice looking phone but I am glad Apple did not mimmic the design. I truly do not get all the notch garbage. Use it for a week and you forget it's even there. When you do want to notice it, it gives the device a unique look. All these new flagships look the same. A slab of glass on the front with small bezels on the top and bottom and a print reader on the back --> Meh!
