@netnothing when you redeemed the XML for the Marvel Movies, did you also get iTunes Extras? I redeemed Thor but it doesn't have it. It's strange since the version on iTunes does.

some older Marvel movies were from different studios and though they will convert to HD under the DMA umbrella, they do NOT include the iTunes Extras :( you can view some extras within the DMA app though.

as far as the person asking about older codes. some codes keep dropping gin price: Interstellar and probably Jurassic World, as many people buy them and they offer 2 codes/redeems. Then you have some titles, mostly Disney, where the movie is now in their Vault and the price goes up...PeterPan, Lion King, Beauty & the Beast all can be seen for $20-60 just for a digital code.

Yeah, the Marvel movies can be more.....but compared to the solid $20 for purchase they are still a good deal. And now that Disney bought them they work with DMA.

I had to buy Iron Man 1 and Thor 1 from iTunes. Guess there isn't an Iron Man 1 code....and conflicting reports on whether Thor 1 works. Not that big a deal since I just got the 25% iTunes from Paypal.

For the rest here's what I ended up paying:

Guardians of the Galaxy $4.00
Avengers Age of Ultron $5.00
Avengers $9.00
Iron Man 2 $10.25
Iron Man 3 $5.75
Captain America $9.50
Captain America the Winter Soldier $7.00
Thor the Dark World $6.00

It was a mix between sites selling codes (those are usually a bit more convenient, but a little more expensive) and hangouts.

Some of the older ones were XML codes.

Just have to keep an eye out.

Was able to do fairly well based on your guidelines. Some of the older Phase Two were getting hard to find. Since I want the full iTunes Extras, I'll probably end up buying all Phase One movies directly from iTunes. I also get iTunes credit for 25% off all the time so it doesn't hurt as bad. Are there any Phase One with XML that get the full iTunes Extras treatment?

Guardians of the Galaxy $5.00
Avengers Age of Ultron $5.00
Iron Man 3 $6.99
Captain America the Winter Soldier $6.00
Thor the Dark World $7.00

Nice work! I've been going a little crazy and spending WAY too much money :D Got Trainwreck and Terminator Genisys tonight for $1.50 each! Don't normally just buy any old movie but I figure a Redbox SD rental is $1.5 or $2 for Bluray.

I got the first Avengers DMA for $9.00 from here: http://familyfriendlyflicks.com/collections/marvel-studios
This has the extras.

I did get Captain America XML but of course, no Extras.

Yeah, I stocked up on the last Paypal 25% sale. Usually I get the 20% off and hadn't seen 25% in a while. Do you get 25% through Paypal when they go on sale? It does make it a little easier knowing any movies I buy direct from the store are 25% off.

I have been getting into this myself after this thread. I don't completely get the iTunes xml do you have to have a disk for this? Are they more work?

I used to get them at 20% off during Black Friday and only recently stocked up on the 25% from PayPal. I know what you mean by Terminator and Trainwreck, they are all over the place. It took some restraint not to pick up Trainwreck at $1.50 to $2.

Btw if you haven't already, I'd join the Blu-Ray forums. Some deals on there are better than Google. I nabbed Winter Soldier for $6 and could've gotten Iron Man 3 for under $5 but I already bought it the day before. Plus they use a feedback system so you can easily spot the reputable sellers.

For now I'm trying to control myself and only go for my version of "timeless classics" which are Marvel and Pixar movies. Fast and the Furious is a guilty pleasure of mine so I picked up all 7 for $1.50 each.

There is a work around for it. If you have a Mac, I posted a DMG file on one of the earlier posts in this thread. You bought that DMG, it opens iTunes, and you enter the XML code. That XML code will redeem as SD, unless it is a Disney movie.

So if I want to buy one of the older Marvel movies (since there is no code), is it better to buy directly on DMA or just iTunes? I'm assuming its better on DMA because you get the rewards, and it would be available on all platforms, right?

When I select Iron Man, it gives me the option of buying it on iTunes....

So if you were on DMA, clicked Iron Man, then buy on iTunes...would the movie only be available on itunes, or every other platform as well? I know the codes work for everything, just dont know about a purchase

Not sure.

I searched for it on my iPhone so that could be the reason it's saying to buy on iTunes.

Don't know if searching for it on a laptop/PC might bring different results.

You should create a Disney Movies Anywhere account. It's free: https://www.disneymoviesanywhere.com/

The DMA account is what keeps track of all the places you have access to your Disney movies. It also links to their rewards site where you can earn points for purchased movies.

Once you have this account, you go into it and in the settings you link all your purchase accounts: iTunes, Vudu, Microsoft, Amazon, Google. Link as many as you have. Each one you link just means that any Disney movies purchased will show up in all your linked accounts. Purchase/Redeem in iTunes, you see it in your Vudu account for example. Redeem in Amazon and you can download in iTunes for example.

Now, when buying Disney codes you usually have these options:

DMA = Sometimes shown as DMA/DMR. You are buying the movie and the rewards points for that movie. These are typically the most expensive to buy. Usually $1 more than the rest.

------------------------------------------------

DC+ = Digital Copy Plus. These are redeemed at http://www.digitalcopyplus.com/. When you do this, once you enter the code you have to select the provider you want to get the movie from. Usually once a provider is selected, the code is no longer valid. But as long as you have linked all your accounts to your DMA account it doesn't matter. This code does NOT contain points if redeemed in iTunes/Amazon/Google.

NOTE: There is a DC+ trick to getting points. If you redeem a DC+ code through Amazon you get points for the movie. This is because the way Amazon does redeem codes. They don't just add the movie to your account.....they basically credit your account with the money to purchase the movie. By doing this, it works just like you are buying the movie (using your credit) and you get the points. As long as Amazon is linked to your DMA account, the movie will be available everywhere you are linked.

------------------------------------------------

DMR = You are buying just the points tied to a movie. You see these often times for $1 and it will say Avengers 150pts. You will NOT get the movie....just the points.

------------------------------------------------

XML = This is the old workaround where you "technically" need the disc in your drive to redeem in iTunes. Someone figured out how to trick iTunes by mounting a DMG file with the XML file in it. You download the DMG, mount it, iTunes opens and you redeem the code. You will ALWAYS get an error in iTunes, but the movie will be added to your purchased list.

NOTE: Only Disney XML movies will redeem in HD. Do not buy non-Disney movies in XML unless you want just the SD version. Also, Disney XML versions usually do NOT include any iTunes Extras. You'll get just the movie.

In the end, just make sure you have all your purchase accounts linked to your DMA account and you can buy anywhere and watch everywhere.

Note to UK'ers:

Don't redeem a DC + code through Amazon.com unless you have a US based card on your account - it won't allow you to redeem it otherwise. Learnt this the hard way just now as I talk to clueless amazon staff on live chat.

Stick with iTunes and let the codes sync to your other accounts via that.

I bought a Disney DC+ and the guy told me not to redeem as a DMA and redeem it as a DC+. Once I redeem it on Amazon, am I free to connect it to DMA and get my points? As long as I don't initially redeem as a DMA, the DMA code should remain untouched?

Also, when I redeemed it on Amazon, it defaulted to SD but I chose the HD version. Does DMA automatically convert all SD movies to HD anyway?
You should only redeem as DC+. I learned the hard way and redeemed both and wound up paying the guy twice since I burned the DMA portion of the code too. Once added to Amazon, it should automatically appear in your DMA account. Not sure about the SD. It should be in HD.

Is there ever a point where codes become more expensive as supply dwindles down? For example I see a lot of Age of Ultrons but not a lot of Winter Soldiers.

I realize what I just said is common sense, but I'm not sure whether to pick up Inside Out now or a month from now. I'm not desperate to see it.
I think with newer movies, especially Disney movies, once their price drops it will stay at that price. The reason I say this is because when I first started looking for and buying codes, it was rare to see ANY Disney movie for less than $10. Now the more recent ones all average around $6-7, which I think will be about the new average. The reason is that with the older titles there was no DMA or DC+ or Instawatch or any of the other gimmicks. Many Disney codes can now get sold twice, once as a DC+ and again as a DMA and they are much easier to obtain since there are 30 copies of Inside Out at a store compared to 1 copy of Old Dogs. And so most of the sellers are going to have far more codes for sale than they do buyers looking for them, there is no incentive on them to raise the price when everyone else is selling the same titles at the same or lower prices.

I think this is going to be true of most iTunes titles going forward too. As far as I know, no studio is releasing title with iTunes only digital copies with new releases. Digital copies now either come as Ultraviolet-only (most studios) or Ultraviolet and iTunes (Universal, HBO, and possibly another) or sometimes with a site that makes you choose between the two. Anyone selling iTunes codes is making extra money since they get to sell two digital copies, most people seem to prefer buying Ultraviolet and so you just have the iTunes copies sitting there. When Jurassic World came out, it was at around $5. I bought it when it had dropped to $3.50 and this was still before the actual Bluray had been released. Now you can get it for $1. The same thing will probably happen with Trainwreck and Minions which are both Universal titles as well. They will start out high and then drop and never come back up.

Bought CA: TFA for $5, did the XML workaround, got the error message and everything, but the film hasn't shown up in my library....?

When I check purchased in iTunes, it's shown as one of my films and it appears in DMA & Vudu.

On my iPad it shows it but with a blank space where the poster is supposed to be....

Any ideas what could have gone wrong....?

It's always normally the most simplest of answers that gets the job done. All sorted.

One quick question - I noticed that there wasn't any extras with my copy of the film - will they get added to it at some point down the line or because it's been redeemed via XML that I won't get any?

Yeah, I've had it happen to me as well.

Likely won't ever get Extras because it was XML. You are linked to the movie only.

Same for my copy of CA: TFA.

Still better than paying $20 for it :D

I already have a DMR/DMA account with a couple movies in it...my question is when you are on DMA's site, and want to purchase an older movie on there (not using any codes), it gives you several options on where you would like to buy the movie from (itunes, vudu, google, etc). So my question is when you buy the movie from itunes, for instance, is that movie available only through itunes, or is it available on every other service, like when you use a code?

Don't know if this is allowed, if not let me know. I do however have a code for Inside Out (Animated Disney movie) if anybody wants it, $5. Send me a PM if so.
