The iphone 5's battery may be more efficient, BUT it's still a moot point because all things being equal, the larger screen is more advantageous, especially if you are wifi browsing on a cell phone screen for 10 hours!

The battery is not more efficient. Maybe the Apple hardware or OS is.

Either way, you have a battery that is 2x as large in the G2 with a screen that is not 2x the size (physically or resolution) with both companies using the latest hardware where efficiency and low power usage are forefront for R&D, makes sense that the battery life is better on the G2.

EDIT: Bluetooth still sucks on the G2, even with some changes made through ADB, along with problems with displaying info to my car stereo. Pandora now goes into auto mode finally, but it is still finicky. For this reason alone I may use an iPhone next time should battery life be this good. To be fair, I am not discussing bluetooth sound quality, just features that should work, as BT sound quality will be subpar to CD/record quality.

Oh I'm not saying it doesn't make sense, not at all. I'm simply refuting the argument that the G2 battery life is substantially less than the iphone 5. I'd also be curious if things scale that way, if you add 20% battery size will you be able to power 20% more screen size, I have a feeling it doesn't and there are diminishing returns with higher screens, but I'm totally guessing and would love for an EE or someone knowledgeable to chime in, interesting stuff.

Bluetooth has always been flawless for me in terms of connection. I found the sound a bit tinny, and I think the iphone 5 has slightly better sound and better bluetooth functionality.

I don't blame you for using the iphone at all, it's a great phone and I had an iphone 5 for a year. In fact I'm 99% certain that if Apple comes out with a 5" model next year I'll be first in line. I like Android, but it's a stop gap for the moment as it has some flaws in terms of using it as a business device. But at the same time I couldn't stomach the tiny 1990's screen and the fair to poor battery life on the ip5.

The guy arguing the point that the iphone has better battery life pretty much just picked out the single thing that the iphone came close to the g2 in (but didn't beat) and that was wifi browsing, ignoring all the other stats showing the G2 trouncing the ip5 , using that as the basis that the G2 battery life was horrible.

Thats because the other tests were stupid. A test over 3G/2G? Its almost 2014, who in the blue hell still uses 3G?! 2G? Really? LOL. They just cherry picked tests where the G2 would look good. Why no test over LTE or at least 4G? Because we all know most Android phones get awful battery life over LTE and the iPhone 5 would at least match it if not beat it. There is no denying the G2 will have much better talk time, thats a given as the screen is not in use at all. My own tests over wifi and LTE were enough for me to take the G2 back after 5 days. The 5s had better battery life, processor, camera, build quality, radios, brighter screen with better viewing outdoors and its thinner and lighter. Just my opinion though.

Here are some more tests between the G2 and 5s even more important to some people than battery life, benchmarks. From Phone Arena. Now this is what I call a trouncing.

3G is still the most common service in the UK, 4G only really got started this year, most cities don't have it, let alone towns and rural areas.

Yeah the other tests were stupid... cellular talk time, G2: 23.5 hours, iphone 5: 8.750 hours. Who the hell would every use their phone for talking ?!?!

If the ip5 matched the g2 in 4g/LTE browsing my point still stands, if battery life is equal why wouldn't you pick the larger screen?

And finally, just to reiterate, your own tests are pretty useless, especially in light of real tech review sites having posted their official benchmarks, something they do every day. Leave it to the professionals.

I agree that some of this is opinion. I think the G2 has MUCH better outdoor visibility, but I've seen reviews that say either way. I've never found the iphone 5 to have very good build quality, with it's inferior anodized shell that chips and scratches with a glance. I'll put my G2 next to it in a heartbeat and we can see which one is more damaged in a year of naked use.

Try again?

Show me which webpages would benefit from this? This is like the entire 64bit argument on the ip5s where it's just a useless marketing bullet point because it provides no perceivable benefit. Give me perceivable benefit over marketing bullet points anyday. Thanks, I'll take my 23.5 hours of cell talk time as I pass you on the highway beating your phone against the steering wheel because you ran out of juice at 1pm.

In the end I'm not arguing with your choice of the iphone at all, but when you say the iphone has BETTER battery life than the G2 you are being dishonest as evidenced by all the tech reviews out there which say different. You can bring up benchmarks all you want to distract from you being wrong, I'm not arguing those.

Please tell me what benefit a quadcore processor is in a phone whos OS isnt even optimized to fully utilize TWO cores

I'm NOT the one arguing benchmarks and specs. This is purely refuting your saying the G2 has much worse battery life than your iphone 5. YOU were the one trying to use benchmarks as a way to distract eyes from what you were wrong about. You keep trying to duck the issue YOU brought up, own it like a man.

Like I said, my 5s had better battery life over wifi and LTE. I havent used 3G in years and talk on my phone MAYBE 15 minutes a day. So for MY uses, the 5s performed just as well, if not better than the G2. Enjoy your phone though, as long as it works for you.

Yep I got that, but as I said before I think I'll take the word of dozens of professional highly respected reviewers who say the opposite of what you say over the word of one disingenuous disgruntled forum poster.

Then I'd say stick with your tiny 5s. There Is nothing your saying in this thread that keeps me from liking the G2. Im not one to care about benchmarks.
It is one of two phones I'm gong to get soon. Everything I've read here and in aericles says the battery is great and the phone is nice and I've played around with one and liked it.
You're the only Debbie downer and convincing nobody otherwise.

I've absolutely no interest at all in a iPhone. Not till it gets much bigger and even then it needs to be more open for consideration,.... which won't happen.

I would choose the smaller device. As I stated battery life prioritized my purchase.

Yeah I don't blame you. I liked my ip5 and wanted to upgrade to the 5s. What prioritized my purchase was the larger screen of the G2, the incredible battery life was a bonus I wasn't even aware of until after I purchased the phone. I miss the one-handability of the iphone sometimes, but I think the times I want a larger screen far outweigh those times.

What I do miss sorely is the functionality of iOS, like Siri. Google is quite lacking in this functionality.

Nah, I've already discussed it to death why Google Now is a poor substitute for Siri. This is for my needs though. I find a personal assistant who treats me like I want to perform phone/business functions is much more useful than one which rams an internet search down my throat, but that's just me.

I also have yet to find much convenience out of Google Now. For the most part its a glorified search bar....

I do enjoy Android to tinker, PACman Rom (Paranoid Android+AOSP+Cyanogen Mod), but for a stock phone, it is a hassle to have the carrier variants, as someone else can't take my phone and use it quickly enough without asking questions.

Can those who are using the G2 as their daily phone please post their screen on times? Most of you are only posting stand and usage times, but screen-on time is the best way to measure battery life IMO.
Today I've had moderate use, with no attempt to conserve battery (e.g. by switching radios on/off).

On battery: 14h 54m, screen on: 2h 40m, 56% battery remaining.

Lg g2

Just left Verizon store after playing with this phone. Almost bought it as it is pretty impressive. Only thing that stopped me was the screen itself. It looks great except that it was scratched to hell.

I know it's a display model but the other phones next to it didn't show any scratches at all. What's the deal with the screen on the G2? Can anyone that owns one reply with their experience regarding screen durability?

Maybe it's a softer glass compared to others. Too bad I was ready to buy it otherwise. Not fan screen protectors so that's out.

holy lord ..... I'm buying this ****

If the larger size isnt an issue, you might want to consider the Note 3. I returned my G2 last week, one of the main reasons being sub par battery life. Here is the difference between the Note 3 and G2 under my uses with roughly the same time off the charger. Mostly using wifi and some LTE. I was also doing more with the Note 3 including some games I did not do on the G2.

Dude, give it a rest. You had a bad one. Shame on you for not returning it and getting another. Sometimes you get one with a problem.....even a Iphone

I would have considered that had I really liked the G2 but there were other things I didn't like. The buttons on the back and the on screen keys started to annoy me after a few days. The speaker was bad, i hated the camera and i didn't like having to use Chrome. Thanks though

You must not have a Nexus 7. The onscreen keys dont bother me at all and especially since you can rearrange them on the G2. IMO thats pretty damn nice since i am more used to the back button being on the right instead of the left.
I also think ill like the buttons on the back. Especially it being a camera button as well. Always hated having to have to touch the bottom on the screen to take a picture in some situations.

you know whats funny kenknots...if you just had said those things about the G2 and said you returned it...most here would not have any issues with that. But you consistently complained and felt like you had to put the G2 down over issues no one else was having. So glad you moved on...but now you keep showing everyone just what you are made of by coming back to the G2 thread to STILL complain about a phone you got rid of.....showing us all your true colors......wonder how long it will be for you to sour on the Note 3 and complain over there.....oh wait you already have.....

I am simply giving my feedback on the devices while testing them that many people may find beneficial. It's a phone, stop getting so worked up about it.
